...Kronenbourg is a decent enough beer (for its type), but until recently, I'd never really been tempted to try their wheat beer version - Kronenbourg Blanc. All that changed during last week's heatwave when confronted with a selection of what would usually be a mouth-watering choice of ales in the pub. It was just too bloomin' hot! My eye was drawn continually to the shiny chrome, ice-cold, condensation-saturated font of the aforementioned beer. So I ordered a tall one. ...<hic> Yes, yet another boozy Bubble opinion ? all this ?research? purely to help out the consumer! ;o) Hmmmm, now I would have always said that my preference for wine would be a medium to sweet white on the whole but I wonder if my taste or palate has been changing a little over recent months as those wines which would normally be too dry for me are tasting a lot better now! Usually a find a drier wine rather sharp and acidic but lately I have tried (and reviewed) a number of drier wines and they all seem to be a lot more pleasant than I expected. Blanc Palace

Advantages: Clean, Helpful staff, Reasonable
Disadvantages: Can be noisy

...My partner and I came back recently from a weeks holiday staying in the Blanc Palace complex and on the whole found I to be a nice place to stay. The complex is fairly large so there is a bit of a walk to the further rooms from the reception and bar areas, the rooms were functional and clean some might say a little basic but nothing that would spoil your holiday, the room we were in did face the main road and at certain times of the day & night could be a little noisy with general traffic and as the coaches were picking up and dropping off, and as quite a lot of tiled floor hotels it does suffer from the terrible noise of furniture being dragged across the floors above you. The main pool is fairly large,clean and deep with a children's pool by the side of it with plenty of sun beds which aren't allowed to be reserved with the towel...

Son Blanc Apartments

...The Son Blanc Apartments are located in Sa Caleta, not far from the old town of Ciutadella. It is split between a quiet road with standard sized rooms and standard self catering facilities. The Hotel staff are all excellent and the entertainment is provided by the tour operator and local entertainment companies. Their are two pools situated on either side of the complex, but with the amount of apartments, the sunbeds are a struggle to find. A small shop is located on-site and a small commercial area is situated about 5-10minutes walk away with a few restaurants, bars and shops. One of the best restaurants on the island is about 20 minutes walk away, Sa Quadra (recommended). The beach is 5 mintues walk but is small. ...Being a kiwi it is natural that I drink plenty of New Zealand wine and indeed I do, too much perhaps! This wine comes from the Malborough region of New Zealand, which lies at the top of the South Island at a lattitude equivalent to about mid Spain. It is a relatively dry area, with good (2400hrs per annum) sunshine hours. Summer day temperatures would average about 23degC with winter days being around 12-15 degC, frosts are rare and not severe. Ideal for the Sauvignon blanc grape then. This grape is said to grow best in cool climates, and compared to the searing heat that continental regions such as France and the US get in the summer, Malborough is "cool". Le Petit Blanc food at its best

...Le Petit Blanc, Brindley Place, Central Birmingham. At first, the thought of eating at LBP filled me with horror, and not just at the thought of the bill at the end of the evening. But you have to try things and that is just what I did last night. From the outisde its a goldfish bowl which surprisingly isnt a problem for diners even on a Saturday evening. The greeting staff are courteous, remembered we had a reservation, took coats with charm and seated us exactly on time. The menu arrived, was easy to read and the stff very helpful at expanding on the dishes - they knew their stuff. Additional specials were available on the Board (pity it was a single board) and on staff notepads. I ordered a Caesar salad to start ( £5.95). It arrived, was well presented but realy should have been re named - there was no anchovy in sight...

Chilean Sauvignon Blanc hits home again

...Yes, Chilean Sauvignon Blanc strikes successfully home on my palate yet again. Not surprising as Chile really seems to be hitting the mark so often these days with this type of wine. The good example in question was Secano Estate Sauvignon Blanc, vintage 2006, available at Marks and Spencer for £6.99 (sometimes it is discounted !). Like its Pinot Noir sister it is from the Leyda Valley in Chile made by Vina Leyda for M&S. The cool climate nature of the Leyda Valley apparently allows the production of fresh and elegant Sauvignon Blanc. Well, let?s see ! Settling in last night in front of a DVD I uncorked this little number (no screwcaps yet for Vina Leyda) and while the previews ran tasted it at leisure. LeBlanc Clarinets

Advantages: Look Good
Disadvantages: Difficult to Play

...Well, These clarinets look nice and sound nice. They are competitively priced compared to many different brands such as buffet and Yamaha. There is one big problem i have with them though. The layout of the keys is vastly different to every other brand out there. For the more clarinet minded, the right hand trill keys are a difficult shape to use, in my opinion, and are really hard to use. I am a woodwind teacher in many schools and would advise all of my pupils not to go for a LeBlanc and to go for the Buffet range as they are vastly superior. In my oppinion they are much more player friendly, and as you have so many other things to be thinking about while playing you do not want to have to overcome parts of the clarinet which are difficult to use. The one thing i must say is that everyone is different and all clarinets suit...
