Just cop a feel of its rubbery knobs
Advantages: Very powerful, great quality sound, simplified features
Disadvantages: Menu can be a bit fiddly, slow to return the CD from its' slot
...I've had my Lausanne CD player for almost a year now, and I have to say, in that time it's been a godsend to me. I decided to buy a CD player for my car because I was tired of cassettes continually being chewed up and retained by the previous monster machine I had. My budget was, quite simply, as low as possible, and I wanted to buy the best quality CD player that I could for my hard-earned cash. Why didn't I buy a CD changer? Well, quite simply - I didn't have the budget and I'm of the firm belief that you can only listen to one CD at a time, so you might as well have control over what you're listening to rather than being stuck to a certain 6 or ten which are in the boot behind you! Plus, you lose boot space with a CD changer - yet another negative for me with a small Honda Civic hatchback!
I paid £99.99 for my stereo from www...

Sony CDP-CX151 100 Disc CD Multichanger
Advantages: Holds a vast amount of discs, saves space, easy access
Disadvantages: Slow loading speed
...When i first bought my 100 Disc changer it was one of those fads, one of those things that i thought , "well, even if i dont use it that often it still looks pretty" . Now a few years on the player has had hours upon hours of trouble free usage.
The player is based on Sony electronics and is as good as it gets for CD Changers, yes there are others, nowadays you can get 200,300 and even 400 disc changers, but this is the one that caught my eye the most.. The player is equipped with a front screen which allows you to input the name of the CD loaded at that particular position. These positions can be accessed (but not played at the same time) using the jog file function. There are other functions that allow the grouping of Cd's into different genres or artists or whatever you choose. A remote comes as standard with the player...

San Remo CD34 - Style, Performance AND subtlety?
Advantages: Panel Release - Lots of Features - Great Price
Disadvantages: Screen susceptible to Glare.
...purchased a small cable from Blaupunkt for about £5, which plugs into the rear of the unit. Simply tuck the cable carefully around your dashboard so it pops out the front somewhere and plug in to your MP3 player. Although it doesn't support changing tracks from the front panel of the unit, it offers an inexpensive and uncomplicated solution to releasing your iPod in your car! The slot at the rear of the unit for the MP3 cable can also be used to cable up a CD changer if you decide to add one later!
As mentioned above, the only possible downside to this unit is the glare in the sun. If the sun shines directly on the front panel, the white display becomes hard to read, although I'm sure this is the same for other white-on-black head units!
All in all, a superb CD Head-Unit for your car - Looks great, sounds great and with minimum fuss...

Blaupunkt Canberra C31
Advantages: Excellent radio both at FM & AM
Disadvantages: Tape player (No CD)
...this blaupunkt car radio has an excellent radio front end at both FM & (mostly) AM! Its ability to receive AM (MW) radio broadcasts with the usual very short FM whip antennas that are commonly found at newer cars, is a real plus! And the sound on AM isn't bad at all. It does have a good AM IF bandwidth filter probably, that allow you to listen good sounded AM stations, with a quality (at least an AM quality that most newer radios doesn't provide for the forgotten ? MW band), while keeping the selectivity needed for first adjacent channel intereference out. A better noise blanker filter, or a faster AGC wil help a little at city terrains where the manmade static noises are higher!
For FM the sound is good (take in account the overcompressed FM modulated signals that most stations have now) and its sensitivity is good enough to get...

Budget price not budget sound
Advantages: Sounds Superb and the price is right.
Disadvantages: Looks like its made from plastacine.
...Summary...
It's bottom of their range
and it costs £135 (RRP 169 -see below)
BUT...
It's an extremely good, fully functional RDS radio and CD player
It's got 4 x 25Watts of good sounding power (40W MPS)
The obligatory Removeable front panel
Dual colour display and an Optional remote and most of the trimmings...
This is the second Blaupunkt I've owned -the first I sadly sold in another car. And they really are extremely good. I'm not a believer in German efficiency (having worked there!) but Blaupunkt are a stunning example of how to make electronics.
The unit i've got always reads ALL of my CD's 1st time(including burnt ones), rarely skips (and I drive a mini), and sounds superb, (I'm an acoustic engineer!)
Against it are its plastacine-legoland looks. Very important to the boy racer to have pretty coloured...

200 CD CHANGER THE SIZE OF YOUR PALM
Advantages: good storage size, great battary life, durable
Disadvantages: little chunky, heavy, and a terrible file interface
...nuisance but it is something you can quickly get accustomed to.
WEIGHT
Now, the weight of this is not as light as most people would hope. Just by looking at it?s slight chunkiness, you would be expecting it to be a little on the weighty side. I would say that this is much heavier than a MD player. The weight on this jukebox does allow the paranoid user (bit like myself when I am travelling) to know where it is at most times.
MEMORY
At 20GB, it is probably one of the best amounts of memory available for an MP3 player. It is more than enough for the average MP3 user. With roughly 1500 MP3?s recorded onto it at CD quality, there is still plenty of room left ? more then 15GB of space left. I suppose this explains one of the reasons for this jukebox to be the size it is with this integrated hard disk.

CD-OK
Advantages: Store yor data, free your hard drive
Disadvantages: come on a spindle and have no cases
...I recently managed to fill up my 80GB Hard drive with all sorts of rubbish and needed some CD's to store my information on. Usually I would buy them from Tesco's, but as I was In a hurry I popped into my local computer retailer (Northbridge Computers in Lowestoft) to see what he had available. All he had on this occassion was TDK CD-R80 discs. There was single CD's in cases, boxs of ten in cases and spindles of twenty-five and one hundred. I plummeted for the spindle of twenty-five as I wasn't rich enough at the time to buy the big fat one hundred spindle.
***Product***
The disc's themselves are light blue with a silver swirl on it. TDK CD-R80 is clearly stamped on it. There is plenty of room to write on them and they can store up to 700MB of data or 80 minutes recording time. They are ideal for backing up files, pictures, photos...

48 Hour CD Service
Advantages: Cheap chart and new releases. 48 hour delivery typical
Disadvantages: Postage may or may not be included in listed price
...101cd have always serviced me well with my CD needs. I tend to order from either these guys, or Amazon.
101cd have very good deals on chart and new releases. These go for £9.99 which includes p+p. Typically you can expect your order to arrive in around 48 hours.
They always have a good budget range for sale, usually these are around the £6-8 mark. You pay p+p on top of these though.
As expected you can search by artist, title etc, and look through the whole catalogue. There is very rarely a cd they do not have. Prices do vary though, and they may not be the cheapest around. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't!
They do offer imports and rare releases. These often seem to be sourced from other retailers, so you may benefit by going directly to that retailer for the rare or import cd you may want.

Blaupunkt TravelPilot in Fords
Advantages: An idea if you really don't know the area.
Disadvantages: Limited, outdated mapping, not so easy to use
...In our brand new Fiesta, delivered this month, the Blaupunkt TravelPilot comes fitted in a unit combined with the radio.
To try this system out, over a period of three weeks, and a total of about 600 miles, entirely within my home county of West Yorkshire, i ran the TravelPilot alongside my own local knowledge of the area built up over 17 years of driving around the area.
To enter a destination it is necessary to go through a menu and a series of entries not wholly unlike entering a text message on a mobile phone. There is a form of predictive texting, which can be quite useful.
The problem I found, though, was that before I could find the way to, say, Huddersfield Police Station I needed to know what road it is in. There seems to be no provision for places like hospitals or police stations as destinations.
Back to the Ato...

Sega Mega CD? Sega Mega Crap!
Advantages: Grandfather of CD consoles
Disadvantages: The Sega Saturn should have been the grandfather
...Do you know why Sega stopped making games consoles after the Dreamcast and concentrated on making software for other consoles? It is because Sega?s executives have always made stupid, ill-informed decisions. I mean, how many mistakes can a company make before they start to wise up and start doing things properly to make a profit and appeal properly to their fans? The Dreamcast was a step in the right direction, but it was already too late and Sega knew it as well. So now I present you with genesis, the beginning of Sega?s bad decision making with this horrid contraption called the Sega Mega CD. It was made to prolong the life of its aging console, the Sega Mega Drive, since the old ?16bit? and ?BLAST PROCESSING? marketing ploys stopped working. I remember in my childhood that only the rich kids could afford a Mega CD because it was way...
