Sevilla: the City of Oranges and much more

Advantages: Architectural beauty; fantastic weather; great food; beautiful people...
Disadvantages: Very few

...Sevilla... the word is almost as beautiful as the city itself. I have been fortunate enough to experience quite a few places across the globe, and I could count on the fingers of one hand (and I could probably afford to be missing a few fingers) the number of places that have left more of an impression on me than Sevilla. I visited in the summer before I came to university, on an itinerary that took in the usual tourist hotspots in Andalucia; Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz, and so on. The whole atmosphere was one that I found particularly intoxicating; you are constantly immersed in grand architecture, of which the Real Alcazar and the Catedral (the pillars of which remind me of that scene in Moria in the Lord of the Rings where the hordes of goblins start swarming down from the ceiling) are paradigmatic examples. The weather is...

Blaupunkt Canberra C31

Advantages: Excellent radio both at FM & AM
Disadvantages: Tape player (No CD)

...this blaupunkt car radio has an excellent radio front end at both FM & (mostly) AM! Its ability to receive AM (MW) radio broadcasts with the usual very short FM whip antennas that are commonly found at newer cars, is a real plus! And the sound on AM isn't bad at all. It does have a good AM IF bandwidth filter probably, that allow you to listen good sounded AM stations, with a quality (at least an AM quality that most newer radios doesn't provide for the forgotten ? MW band), while keeping the selectivity needed for first adjacent channel intereference out. A better noise blanker filter, or a faster AGC wil help a little at city terrains where the manmade static noises are higher! For FM the sound is good (take in account the overcompressed FM modulated signals that most stations have now) and its sensitivity is good enough to get...

Blaupunkt TravelPilot in Fords

Advantages: An idea if you really don't know the area.
Disadvantages: Limited, outdated mapping, not so easy to use

...In our brand new Fiesta, delivered this month, the Blaupunkt TravelPilot comes fitted in a unit combined with the radio. To try this system out, over a period of three weeks, and a total of about 600 miles, entirely within my home county of West Yorkshire, i ran the TravelPilot alongside my own local knowledge of the area built up over 17 years of driving around the area. To enter a destination it is necessary to go through a menu and a series of entries not wholly unlike entering a text message on a mobile phone. There is a form of predictive texting, which can be quite useful. The problem I found, though, was that before I could find the way to, say, Huddersfield Police Station I needed to know what road it is in. There seems to be no provision for places like hospitals or police stations as destinations. Back to the Ato...

Bacon and Eggs? No thanks!

Advantages: Large rooms, clean, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Buffet breakfast could be better.

...The Hotel Sevilla Center is located in Avenida de la Buhaira which leads directly to Seville Airport and is only a few hundred yards from Santa Justa train station, making it very convenient for arriving in Seville. It is only a 10 minute walk to the historic centre of Seville with all the sights of the city and the interesting shopping centre. The hotel is next to two parks which are good to stroll through on the way to the city centre and one has an open air restaurant which is cheap and convenient. There are several other small restaurants within a few hundred yards of the hotel making it difficult to know where to eat, with so much choice! Hotel Sevilla Center is a modern hotel with 233 rooms over 14 floors including standard rooms, junior suites, executive rooms and a presidential suite. It also has two cafeterias, one...

Have a fietsa in Seville!

Advantages: great bars and tourist attractions
Disadvantages: too hot in summer

...city. If you have time you should also take a trip to the Plaza Americana where you can feed the snowy white pigeons, and visit the museums in the area. The Plaza de Espana is also a great place to chill out. Getting there: You can fly directly to Sevilla with Iberia airlines (around £100-£150) or get a connecting flight from Madrid, which is cheaper. If you are really on a budget, it is simple to get a flight to Malaga (usually there are very cheap deals to this airport) and get a coach or train to Sevilla. There ar e loads of hotels in the city itself- whether it is budget or five star that you would like. It is worth bearing in mind that the residents have a huge celebration at Easter. Everywhere get booked months in advance, and prices are inflated - but I have been told that the atmostphere in the city, as well as all...

Review of Sevilla

a wonderful place

Advantages: sights, sun, pretty streets, tapas bars,
Disadvantages: very hot

...very interesting and a good way to experience a part of Spanish culture without having to witness a bull fight (most bull fights are on during April and May in Seville). The Real Alcazar is well worth a visit. The beautiful gardens are as stunning as the Palace itself. If I had known I would have taken my lunch and a book and enjoyed the gardens with lunch! And as you exit the Real Alcazar you enter the square full of orange trees (although these are abundant in Sevilla). I would recommend taking a Spanish phrase book as not many people speak English - which I enjoyed, actually feeling like I was on holiday. Although not as cheap as other parts of Spain I didn't feel Seville was overpriced. The sight seeing was definitely good value with most sights being less than 10 euros. I did not rush round Seville but spend 6 days and nights taking in...
