Blood Brothers

Advantages: The best musical I have ever seen

Book, lyrics and music are all by Willy Russell. Plot is centred around the working class Johnstone family with Mrs Johnstone becoming a single parent quite soon into the story as her husband leaves her with a brood of children. To feed her family Mrs Johnstone gets a job at the upper class Lyons household as a cleaner and is a big hit. Soon after she realises she is pregnant with twin boys and cant possibly afford to bring up another two children. Mrs Lyons however is desperate for a child and unable to get pregnant so offers to 'buy the baby. Reluctantly Mrs Johnson agrees and the deal is done. ...After having read Russel's second book about Jan Fabel, Brother Grimm, I wasn't overly keen on reading anything else by this author. I had enjoyed Brother Grimm in places but found it to be disappointing over all. However, somehow I still ended up with Blood Eagle in my hands. This is the first book in the series of Jan Fabel, Erster Kriminalhauptkommissar (Principal Chief Commissar) with the Hamburg Police murder squad. The book starts with an email from "Son of Sven" to Fabel which makes it clear that this Son of Sven character is a murderer and who is taunting Fabel personally with the notion that this is only the beginning and that he will not stop until he is made to do so. So far so run of the mill crime book. However, the plot quickly thickens as Fabel starts to investigate the brutal and apparently ritualistic murders...

Diamond's Really Do Cost Blood - Blood Diamond

Advantages: Gripping, Superb acting, makes you think about life differently, eye opening
Disadvantages: It is a very disturbing film and might be too disturbing for some

...Personal Opinion I watched Blood Diamond last night and it was an absolutely amazing film that was completely absorbing and gripping. It is a 2006 action/adventure drama film co-produced and directed by Edward Zwick, director of Glory and The Last Samurai. It stars Leonado DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou. The film was put forward for five Academy Awards of which included Best Actor (DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Hounsou) I admire Leonardo DiCaprio for his acting abilities he is a first class actor who is able to get deep into the character. As a character actress myself I know it is not easy to dig deep into a character that is so emotionally challenging as DiCaprio played. It would have made him feel a wide range of emotions and he probably had to dig deep to places that brought back that same emotion that...
