Phalaenopsis - Addictive orchids!
Advantages: Beautiful flowers, still grow if you neglect them!
Disadvantages: Expensive compared to other house plants
...I have always liked orchid flowers. but have never had much success with house plants so never really considered growing them. I tend to neglect plants so eventually they dry out and die! However in a moment of weakness in a garden centre, I spotted a rather sad looking phalaenopsis (not that I knew that was what it was at the time!) With beautiful pale pink petals and a deep pink centre. It was reduced as it had been rather bashed and didn't look very healthy! Always a sucker for a charity case, I bought it and brought it home. All the instructions on the pot were in german, so a little while on google was required for some simple care instructions! This was over 12months ago and the orchid has been in flower ever since - certainly a lot cheaper than a bunch of flowers! I have acquired another 6 orchids since then, and am rapidly...

An Orchid Sensation
Advantages: Modern looking, Long Flowering, and Beautiful
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I have to say that I love all plants, and I find all flowers interesting in their own way; however, Orchids have to be one plant that is the Spear and Jackson of the plant world. They are definately a plant to be proud of.
They flower profusely, and they stay in flower for a very long time; unlike many other plants, that have lovely but, somewhat, transient flowers.
At the moment, I have two Phalenopsis (Moth Orchids). One of them has white flowers, and the other one has yellow flowers. They are a great plant that can match almost any surrounding, and the Moth Orchids come in lots of beautiful colours. They can be postitioned almost anywhere indoors, so long as they get enough light, and are kept at a moderate temperature.
Requirements:
--------------------
They require a daily misting, that is always best done, in...

Vuylstekeara Cambria Plush Orchid
Advantages: Elegant single stemmed orchid with beautiful rich coloured flowers
Disadvantages: Costly to buy. Requires regular attention.
...For Easter this year, my husband surprised me with a beautiful Vuylstekeara Cambria Orchid. With its elegant long stem bowed over from the abundant small butterfly shaped flowers, the plant does look uniquely stunning.
I say uniquely - but apparently this is the most widely grown orchid in the world!! It is a hybrid orchid produced by crossing three different original orchids: Cochlioda, Miltonia and Odontoglossu.
I had always thought the orchid to be a difficult plant to keep. Thankfully it is not. The plant does require care but nothing too difficult or unachievable in ordinary home circumstances.
~What?s in a name?~
The Vuylstekeara Cambria Orchid is a member of the orchid family which are distinguished by the differentiation of one petal into a lip (labellum).
It was originally produced by the Belgian orchid grower...

I Love Orchids!
Advantages: Flower, Colour, Ease, long lasting
Disadvantages: Fast growing roots
...Today I?m gonna write something about orchids. I hope this start does not sound like I?m lecturing.
Before you go further, I would like to tell you not to forget to view the pictures which I have pasted below. Once finished reading the review, please look at it and tell me what do you think about it ok? Thank you very much!
As you see, orchids could most probably be the easiest plant to be grown in your garden. Why? I?ll explain?.
To start off, try to get your hands on one orchid. It is a good investment if you love plants. Orchids are sold widely.
What do orchids require? Orchids are not fussy plants. They are generally wild plants and they do not require soil to live. Orchids can grow on their own (on rocks, on dead woods, on branches, on plastics), without even having soil. All you need is a pot, or a plastic pot, fill...

Visit the Orchid Garden!
Advantages: Nice to visit, pretty, shady
Disadvantages: Quite small
... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Orchid Garden Review * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Recently I visited Tenerife for almost two weeks and this is another review of somewhere I visited. Another Tenerife review I have written is on Loro Parque and is quite a good review in my opinion! Anyway today I am going to review the Orchid Gardens.
While in Tenerife recently I visited the Orchid Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz. The garden was just up the road from the hotel I stayed in which is the Casablanca and probably took about 3 minutes to walk to from there! The orchid garden is a really interesting place to visit but it seemed to be very quiet ?although apparently it is busier in the winter! This is a shame as the gardens are a really nice place just to be in and relax and should be enjoyed by more people and I wish that more...

You Took A White Orchid: Turned It Blue
Advantages: Some of the tracks are absolutely excellent.
Disadvantages: A number of tracks are actually quite painful to listen to.
...'Get Behind Me Satan' is the fifth studio album from The White Stripes and it must be said that it's just a bit different from the norm. Every track present here sounds completely unique, and whilst some of the tracks work; others just don't. Full marks to the band for experimentation and creativity, not so many marks however for consistency. Whilst some of the tracks are quite impressive here, others have me quickly reaching for the skip button before my ears suffer too much. There are thirteen tracks present here, as I say though; not all of them are particularly worth listening to, and the likelihood is that you won't appreciate everything that you hear here (I certainly didn't).
A few of the better tracks from this album are those of 'Blue Orchid', 'Take, Take, Take' and 'I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)'. 'Blue Orchid...

A Black Orchid by any other name
Advantages: Interesting attempt
Disadvantages: Feels synthetic, expensive, there are similar better value scents
...Launched: 2006
Group: Oriental floral
Introduction
This fragrance has received a lot of hype during its launch in 2006. I remember popping into Debenhams to get free samples and I saw a small counter set up for Tom Ford Black Orchid where hostesses were handing out samples. This sample then ended up in one of my drawers without testing. Until now that is. So is this perfume worth it?
The bottle
The packaging is classy, stylish and very 'designer' for me. The bottle is solid black with a ribbed pattern on all sides including the cap. There's a square golden plate attached to the body of the bottle stating the designer and name of the fragrance. The outer packaging is a ribbed-effect golden carton with the small black square label so the colours have been inverted.
The fragrance
Top notes: blackcurrant...

The Orchid that never blooms
Advantages: Rich historical detail, brings life in the Forbidden City to life
Disadvantages: Dull, fails to captivate, flat characters, wrong period of Tzu Hsi's life
...Empress Orchid is the latest work by Anchee Min, the acclaimed author of "Becoming Madame Mao" and "Red Azalea." The book is based on the life of Orchid, a concubine in the court of Emperor Hsein Feng who later went on to become Empress of China, ruling for more than 40 years.
The description on the back cover of the book sounds fascinating - a woman managing to come to power in a male-dominated society, trying to protect and preserve her country against the European powers who seek to carve it up for their own purposes. Added to this the undeniable allure of exoticism (books on court life in ancient China are hard to come by), and the hint of sexiness given the fact that Orchid is a concubine, and the expectations of sex, romance, intrigue are all set. They exist in the book, but for a number of reasons they fail to take hold...

The Blue Mountains
Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: nothing
...This next review is on my time on The Blue Mountains National Park, located in Sydney Australia. A few friends and I had decided to hire a van and take a tour of the national park, as we had been recommended it by several people we had met along the way. I am usually a fan of national parks; it gives you a chance to take in the scenic view, it gives you a chance to relax and unwind if you have had a busy week, and you even get to see some wildlife. It?s a great experience, which allows you to camp overnight, whilst also have a magnificent driving experience.
History & Park Info:
The park covers 267,954 hectares, which included several mountains and rivers along the trek. The highest point of the park is Mount Werong (1,215 m), and there are some breathtaking views from the top. The area became a national park in 1932, and ever since...

WD40 FOR THE FACE
Advantages: Lovely intensive treatment for the face, goes a long way
Disadvantages: Expensive - but you only need a little!
...Not so long ago, my teenage skin formed its own natural oil slick every day and I spent much of my allowance on products to dry it out and mattify it. Now, some ten years on, my skin has gone completely the other way and is almost permanently dehydrated.
I recently had my make up professionally done for a wedding and the make up artist commented on my dehydrated skin. I said that I had tried all kinds of rich, intensive moisturisers, but to no avail. She suggested that I try an oil, informing me that oils absorb into the skin much better than moisturisers.
After a bit of research, I decided that Clarins Blue Orchid Oil was my best bet. Clarins do three different skin oils, but Blue Orchid is designed specifically for dehydrated (as opposed to dry) skin. It contains 100% natural plant extracts.
The oil does not come cheap...
