Rocking boat
Advantages: Great story and music
Disadvantages: none
...The Boat That Rocked focuses on a pirate radio ship, called Radio Rock, broadcasting to the teenagers of the sixties. They are a motley band of disc jockeys that go against the wishes of a British government determined to silence them. The boss of Radio Rock, Quentin, has to ensure rating for his station whilst avoid the might of the government officials, led by Minister Dormandy.
Radio rock has a selection of colourful disc jockeys, including The Count, a brash American, the charming, yet lewd, Dave, inexperienced and gentle, Simon and even a lesbian cook, Felicity. The arrival of Quentin?s godson, Carl, leads to the DJ?s to turn Carl into a man through a number of funny exploits. However the Count?s position as top DJ at Radio Rock are tested when the famous king of the airwaves, Gavin returns from his tour of America.

Rocking the Boat
Advantages: Fun, zany antics with a great soundtrack
Disadvantages: Some of the big name members of the cast were under utilised
...ROCKING THE BOAT- A HAVEN IN A SEA OF SELF-INVOLVED EPICS
Seldom do those of us in the UK get the chance to view a film in cinema before the American market. For once we were able to make up our own minds without the American sales telling us whether or not the film was any good. Having said that, it quickly became clear from the UK reviews that The Boat that Rocked was a little like marmite. You love it or you hate it. This review is based entirely on seeing the film at the cinema so who knows what extras they will add to the dvd to tempt buyers. I must say that the cinema was almost empty when we saw the film which was a bonus as we could pick the perfect seats and were spared the usual cinema annoyances of chatting individuals and flickering mobile phone screens.

Don't come knocking, this boat's rocking!
Advantages: Philip Seymour Hoffman, the feelgood factor, the music
Disadvantages: Oh, the hype
...Tom Sturridge. He?s a teenager who?s just been expelled from his single sex school. He joins the boat after his mum packs him off to spend some time with Quentin, who?s his Godfather. Quentin becomes the closest thing to a father figure Carl has ever known. Carl apparently, is the wonderful result of a few nights of lust and never knew his real dad. Quentin, on first being introduced to him, asks if they?ve ever met before. They haven?t, but as Quentin explains, he?s forgotten a whole decade thanks to some pretty wild partying. I didn?t understand why his mother would have thought this trip a good idea for her son, but we understand more when we finally meet her ourselves. Carl seems like a very unworldly young man, and rather shy here, which is odd considering he?s on board because he was caught smoking in school. He soon comes out of his...

1 Boat - 8 DJs - No Morals - Fab film!
Advantages: great British film
Disadvantages: none
...I had wanted to see The Boat that Rocked ever since I saw a preview of it on my Mama Mia DVD that I got for Christmas. As it's a British film from the makers of such films as Notting Hill and Love Actually, and it stars Billy Nighy and Rhys Ifans I felt it was definitely going to tick all the right boxes. It subsequently made its way on to my Amazon wish list and finally appeared all neatly wrapped, thanks to my husband, for my birthday last week!
We duly settled down to watch the DVD last night and I have to say that the next two hours and ten minutes passed in a very enjoyable flash. I absolutely loved this film from the very first moment that the opening credits appeared right through to the moment when the final credits rolled. It is such an enjoyable, feel good, madcap film and I am definitely going to be recommending it!
The film...

Let life sail on by at The Boat
Advantages: Award winning restaurants, beautiful views, friendly staff, dogs allowed
Disadvantages: No lift for disabled guests, £100 a night for a standard room is quite expensive
...off. As a relative newbie to the joys of Scotland I was shocked at just how quickly you start to see beautiful countryside on leaving the city of Glasgow. The journey up was very enjoyable for the entire 3 hours due to the beauty of the scenery and the weather too. Hardly the stereotypical view of Scotland.
At around 7.30pm we arrived in the former ski resort of Aviemore, the UKs premier winter sports location. It is sad to think that they haven?t had the snow there for ages now. As there were 20 of us doing the walk it hadn?t been possible to find digs for us all in the same B&B or hotel. Most of the places in this area are small hotels with small capacities. We agreed at that point to go and check into our hotels, then we would meet back up for an evening meal in Aviemore. The hotel I was assigned to was The Boat in the tiny village...

A rocking boat trip down memory lane
Advantages: Big name cast, some very funny laugh out loud moments
Disadvantages: A little slow to start with
...I took my mother to see this film at the cinema as she loves anything with 60's music and remembers the good old days when Radio Caroline launched and caused so much controversy. It seemed like the perfect film for her to watch and have a stroll down memory lane, allowing her to reminisce about her misspent youth and she wasn't disappointed!
The Boat That Rocked, written and directed by Richard Curtis, is the story of Radio Rock, a fictitious pirate radio station, based loosely on the experiences of Radio Caroline and other such pirate stations that broadcast from ships off the coast of Britain. Set in 1966 it documents the conflict between the British Government and the radio "rebels", who dared to illegally broadcast rock and roll music without a broadcasting license.
Most people associate Richard Curtis with romantic comedies...

The boat that rocked - rocked!
Advantages: Colourful, witty, brilliant characters
Disadvantages: over 2 hours long!
...The boat that rocked is one of those really feel good films, that reminds you not to take life too seriously.
It is a light hearted take on the going's on aboard a pirate radio ship during the 1960's, in a time where the government is attempting to shut down all radio stations of the rock and pop variety. The music that defined the generation is being listened to secretly by thousands of Britons.
The colourful characters in the film are played by such stars as Bill Nigh, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost and Chris O'Dowd and many more big names and famous faces. Each character is wonderfully individual and has their own take when broadcasting the show.
The plot centralises on the character Carl (Tom Suttridge) who has been expelled from school and is sent to stay with a friend of his mother's on the boat of Planet Rock. Each character...

Lets float the police boat.
Advantages: Super toy lots of play value
Disadvantages: None
....
Lego is a safe toy for a small child no rough edges big enough not to be swallowed.
*Recently I have seen the Duplo police boat*
. This toy is will be ideal for a 3 or 4 year olds. . This box of bricks includes 2 boats, 1 blue and white police boat, one yellow boat, 2 figures. There is a red plastic suitcase brick in this set for the robbers to steal away. There are a few other standard Duplo bricks with the set too they make an island and a yellow light brick for the top of a tower of bricks to make a lighthouse.
The police boat has a blue cabin with windows which your child and you can fit onto the studs on the base of the boat. There is brick which is blue and grey to resemble the police light this can be fitted on top of the boat cabin. There is a lower section on the boat for the police duploman to stand while driving...

Shotover Jet- apparently the world's most exciting jet boat ride.
Advantages: Fun, excitement, safe, family friendly
Disadvantages: Expensive, a bit tame
...Shotover Jet is the name of a New Zealand adventure company based in Shotover Canyon, near Queenstown, New Zealand. They offer what is apparently the world's most exciting Jet Boat right through the steeply walled canyon.
What is a jet boat and how does it work?
You may be wondering what jet boating is. Imagine, if you will, a cross between a hovercraft and a motor boat that can carry up to 28 passengers. These are very rapid boats that can operate in very shallow water and move very close to obstacles. This is ideal for the famous braided rivers of the South Island, which are twisty, shallow, meander over the seasons and have many frequent obstacles.
Unlike a propeller driven boat, these boats are powered by jets of water. The water is sucked up through two inlet areas underneath the boat, and then jetted powerfully out...

Who's making the boat sink?
Advantages: Interesting story with good links to introducing the concept of capacity and weight.
Disadvantages: None
...This is another great book by Pamela Allen with lovely rhyming text and great educational opportunities. Pamela Allen has written a number of children's picture books some of which I have listed below:
* Bertie and the Bear
* Mr McGee
* Mr Archimedes' Bath
* Clippity-Clop
* My Cat Maisie
~ Pamela Allen ~
Pamela Allen was a secondary school teacher, born in N.Z. Her themes range from educational (Mr Archimedes Bath & Who Sank the Boat?) to humorous stories like the Mr McGee series of books.
~ Who sank the boat? ~
I use this book as a simple introduction to weight and balance to the children I teach.
Five good friends (cow, donkey, sheep, pig and mouse) decide to go for a row in the boat.
"Do you know who sank the boat?"
" Was it the cow who almost fell in, when she tilted the boat and made such a din?"
The cow...
