Advantages: easy to navigate and earn I points for every £10 you spend Disadvantages: delays in the preordering service
...I signed up with I points way back in July and with loads of websites offering I points for shopping they caught my eye. Bol.com was one of these promising 50 I points for joining and a further 10 I points for every £10 spent on site.
Well I had nothing to loose so I clicked on the bol.com symbol and it took me straight to the site.
First I had to registar which was simplicity itself you just enter in your email address which you use for I points and a password. Takes about a few minutes and away I went.
My first love is books and I had a few titles in mind that I wanted so I entered them into the search facility which appears at the top of each page and has three main sections title, authour and ISBN number all of which are straight forward.
I entered the title of my first book and it came up with five matches all correct but...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: The offer ipoints on purchases Disadvantages: Terrible Customer service Department (if there is one)
...Sorry about the title, but this is the way I feel about this online company. The reasons for this will become obvious in this short rant of a review.
BOL are a UK based book / CD / Video online store. Their selection is fine and their prices are probably on a par with MVC on the high street. So better than Virgin / HMV but that's not saying much, then you have postage and packing to consider.
I must confess the reason for buying off the site is to gain ipoints (50 for a first time purchase) and they have an excellent compilation of Hellcat Records featuring the brilliant DropKick Murphy's and a reasonable 2 for 22 GBP DVD selection . All well and good.
Several weeks ago my girlfriend tried to purchase a few books. It got to the credit card validation stage , and then just kept asking for the debit card number. She filled in...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: wide selection, fast delivery Disadvantages: naughty with the opoints
...I discovered bol.com through ipoints. Bol sells a very wide choice of music, movies, games and books. It really does have something for everyone.
The site is well designed. It is in various shades of blue on a white background, making it easy on the eye. You can read it without squinting, and it doesn't give you a headache with lurid bright colours or flashing/spinning text/images (my personal pet-hate).
Navigation is simple. Click on the tab for music, books, dvds or games, and you're then taken to sub-sections. From here you can go through different genres, authors, artists etc.
The search facility is fast and accurate. You only need to know a couple of words in a title, or one name of the author in books, for example.
Prices on books are excellent. I've bought many at up to 50% off rrp. CDs are more expensive...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: cheap Disadvantages: poor customer service
...I first shopped at BOL because I was an affiliate and, carrying their banners on my web site, thought I should at least know what service I was recommending. I was very disappointed.
At first it all looks great. Their products are noticeable cheaper than all other online bookstores. Their CD choice did not seem very wide, and I don't remember there being a function to listen to tracks, but book choice was very wide and, as I say, reasonably priced.
The site was not totally easy to navigate. I remember going round in circles a little bit. The design is a bit ugly, and the search facility a bit hit-and-miss. However, I did find the books I was looking for, at a very good price and placed my order. I waited a few days and received nothing. I waited a few days more, being a patient sort, and still nothing.
So I emailed support...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: Very Fast Delivery, Cheap, Easy to use Disadvantages: none
...I am a student at Staffordshire University studying a Beng Software Engineering. We were told which books we would need to buy for reading material for the course.
So, tuesday evening at around 9pm, I decided to use my fathers credit card and order the books that I need. I decided to buy a total of 4 books.
I had a look at five different sources, 2 were high street bookshops(WHSmiths & Webleys), 1 was the university bookshop, and the other two were BOL.com and AMAZON.co.uk.
I found that BOL.com and AMAZON.co.uk were considerably cheaper than their high street rivals. So, I investigated further.
** AMAZON.co.uk **
For delivery of books, Amazon charge £2.16 per order, which I only intended on having 1, and a further £0.59 per item within the order. So, £2.16 and 4 items came to a total delivery charge of £4...

Review of bol.com
...Ok I am a strong supporter of Amazon, and had not found any real need to change my opinion, but I also had 135 I-points. Now you may or may not know but the value of these I-points is devaluing faster than the German Mark in the early 1930’s. The only logical thing I could think of was to cash them in as quickly as possible. Bol.com appeared to be the perfect candidate as I had a growing list of “ must read’s” from ciao opinions.
The website at www.bol.com takes you to their international portal and requires you to click on the UK button. This brings you to the home page and I was very impressed by the speed the site operated at. At first glance it is similar to Amazon with the exception of the colour. The ubiquitous editors choice, which means they have too many books on stock caught my eye, but one...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: BIG discounts on certain books Disadvantages: Slowish delivery
...This seems to be one of those ?love it? or ?hate it? sites. I prefer to think of it like paracetamol. Very beneficial if used correctly.
First up is the site itself. The layout is quite ?busy?, but not over-crowded. At the very top of the page towards the right side are the main controls [Home ? Basket ? Your account ? Contact us ? Help ? Login]. These also appear at the very bottom of the page with the addition of the ?Privacy policy?. At the top left side is bol.com and their blue and white logo.
Next are the, for want of a better word, folder headings [Bestsellers at 60% off ? Bookstore ? Software & Games ? 3-4-£10 offer ? New Year Sale]. The last two are the current special offers and liable to change.
Hugging the left side are the categories within the main folders. For example the following are what you will find under...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: Significant improvement in delivery time, Online order status, Extremely wide variety in books, music and games Disadvantages: Site is a bit slow
...I was on the lookout for a CD and it was whilst looking around that I decided to try out BOL.
Bol.com's past track record was slightly flawed with regards to the delivery time of products purchased on their site. I got to know about this from my brother and I will go into this a bit later in the opinion.
I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at their homepage. It certainly looks like a very efficient and reliable site at first glance.
They cover the following general catergories; Books, Music, DVD/Video, Games/Software and Gifts.
If you select one of these general catergories you will then be able to make a detailed selection by genre.
The range of products available is complete. Unlike other sites which offer a limited range or only the latest or fast selling products, BOL provides you with a unbelievable choice. I am...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: 60% discount on current books Disadvantages: Very slow delivery
...retailers and while some titles are sold as paperback, the majority are hardbacks so the prices are 60% off hardback prices (club editions are the same price as standard hardbacks).
The cost of the books is fairly good, with a wide range of current titles being priced at 60% off and a bargain section that acts as a bit of a clearance facility for less popular or slightly older titles. Other titles can be a bit pricey though - they are sold at 20% off but as most stock is in hardback this can be quite expensive and means that BOL isn't a good all round book shop.
Personally I have found the copies (both sizes of hardbacks) sold by BOL are printed on a lower quality paper than those sold by companies such as amazon. This is something that I don't mind if they are selling the book very cheaply compared to other suppliers but it is something...

Review of bol.com
Advantages: none at all?? - cheap books - if they arrive Disadvantages: bad service, long delivery, no refunds in some cases
...If you type BOL into Google it brings up, BOL - the nicest way to buy books!! BOLlocks!!!! Its the most difficult way to buy books!!
Books Online is a subsidiary company of World Books, who I reviewed some time ago as I had terrible problems with them. I vowed never to use them again.
I was tempted a few weeks ago by a special offer BOL had on Jordan's book - Being Jordan by Katie Price, so I decided to order that book and another one.
I was originally impressed, until the books didn't turn up..........
