...Mumbai derives its name from Mumba Devi a local diety worshipped by the Maratha fisher folk of the region. Mumba Devi is the goddess of sea and according to folklores she blessed the region and took care of the Fisherman community. When India was under the British rule the name Mumbai got slightly changed , as they were unable to pronounce the name , and was called Bombay for all official purposes. But the locals continued to refer to it as Mumbai or Bambai.. And after nearly 45 years after India gained its Independence , in the nineties , the city was officially called by its original name. I grew up calling Mumbai as Bombay and I am yet to get used to calling it Mumbai. ...Well in 2005, I went on a 6 week trip to India and Dubai, it was during the summer holidays and my cousin was getting married there so I figured why not go and see the wedding and say hello to my grand mum who I hadn't seen for about 10 years. I visited quite a few different cities in India, but this particular review is about my time in Mumbai or Bombay, which ever you want to call it. I spent a total of 5 nights in this buzzing, beautiful yet populated city. My first trip to Mumbai was when I was about 6 years old, I hated it 100%, however at the age of 18, I found myself enjoying my second trip to this city, and I could actually go to clubs, travel on my own and explore the city with some independence. In the box you get spinach Pilau rice, a chicken curry dish which i think is the same sort of things as chicken tikka masala. You also get a naan bread and some onion bhajis. The meal can made in the microwave, but through personal experience in every curry i have bought from the supermarker, i always oven cook. It is always worth the extra 40 mins. The instructions are clear on the box and everything is clearly explained for each separate dish. So it was really easy to put in the oven and time everything together I was also impressed at the portion sizes which were noticably generous even in the packets. ...As with everything, there are good examples and not such good examples. Bombay Sapphire is one that fits into the former category. Gins are spirits made from juniper berries, and some added botanicals, e.g. angelica. However, most distillers will distill the botanicals and juniper berries together, somewhat losing the flavour of the botanicals. Bombay Sapphire distill the juniper berries, then pass the vapour throught the botanicals, releasing their delicate flavour. The slightly higher ABV (47% as opposed to around 40%) means the gin drinks more smoothly, and still gives a good kick in cocktails.
