Salaam Bombay !
Advantages: A magical city of contrasts, that is coping inspite of all odds
Disadvantages: There are many
...city right from my first visit in the seventies to the present day. I have visited Bombay several times, lived there for 2 months , and I love the city with all its short comings. I have never seen a city that is as contrasting or magical as this. It repels and attracts you at the same time.
There were times when I simply wanted to run away from the surrounding mass of humanity, traffic and utter chaos. But now living away from Bombay, I feel like going back there experiencing that life once again.
I have had so many pleasant memories attached to the city. Wandering through the choked footpaths looking for second hand books, and eating Bhelpuri , Chaat and Kulfi on Chowpathy beach, which is the best that you can find anywhere in India, shopping at street side bazaars for shoes and handbags..
Mumbai or Bombay as I have known it through my...

Mumbai, or is it Bombay
Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: Read Opp
...Well in 2005, I went on a 6 week trip to India and Dubai, it was during the summer holidays and my cousin was getting married there so I figured why not go and see the wedding and say hello to my grand mum who I hadn't seen for about 10 years. I visited quite a few different cities in India, but this particular review is about my time in Mumbai or Bombay, which ever you want to call it. I spent a total of 5 nights in this buzzing, beautiful yet populated city. My first trip to Mumbai was when I was about 6 years old, I hated it 100%, however at the age of 18, I found myself enjoying my second trip to this city, and I could actually go to clubs, travel on my own and explore the city with some independence. This review will focus more on what I saw during my time in the city, where I stayed, the places I visited, the culture and lifestyle...

Bombay Dreams - Mumbai Reality!
Advantages: Longer you are there the more to see.
Disadvantages: Busy, Polluted, Frenetic.
...After many, many years, my wife and myself finally got to go to India and although my wife is of Indian extraction, she knows of no relatives in the sub-continent. We were not without contacts however in Mumbai, which we had originally meant to use as a stepping stone for further travel but due to many conflicting priorities and circumstances, we were confined to that city for the duration of our two weeks in India.
Mumbai though, was a revelation. It is well off the usual tourist tours offered by the UK operators such as Bales or TravelSphere. Many people will only use it as a stepping stone before traveling onto other more glamourous places in India but it does deserve a closer look as there are many sites and experiences on offer.
I found that the thoughts and feelings that Mumbai imparted will stay with me for far...

Bombay me right up
Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: NONE!
...I am rarely good at food shopping, however i went a week ago and did really well. On top of my big monthly shop i bought something for me to have that night. let me set the scene...
my boyfriend decided he was going out with 'the boys' on a saturday night, all my friends were either broke or were spending nights in, and this reduced me to my own night of crapdom. So armed with a bottle of Gallo I set about Sainsburys looking for a meal that would fill me up and cheer me up and that I wouldn't ruin (cant cook).
Now i used to work in sainsburys and so i know they have the meal for one, meal for two chinese or indians. And this to me seemed like a brilliant idea.
Sainsburys have the sainsburys own meal for one indian and they also have the meal for one taste the difference. I already knew this, however I didn't know, nor had i heard...

Murder, transvestites and forgery in Bombay
Advantages: Fast-paced, well-written and researched, great setting
Disadvantages: Complicated plot, interspersed with unnecessary comments on scientific theory
...transportation of ice from Canada to Bombay and the fact that although it looks fresh and clean, it often makes the imbiber ill.
2) I am always slightly uncomfortable about the idea of an author writing about another country - although Roz is half-Scottish, the other characters are nearly all Indian and there are a number of comments on the way that the country is run, particularly regarding corruption within the police and widespread poverty. There is also no evidence from her biography that she spent a serious amount of time in Bombay and I wonder how much it is possible to research from books. On the other hand, in this multicultural age, perhaps it is no bad thing that authors from one culture attempt to write about another culture.
Despite this, the book was incredibly well-written and descriptions of the various temples etc that Roz visits...

Nair's Tribute to the Street Children of Bombay
Advantages: beautiful, moving, good acting
Disadvantages: bleak, dark, depressing
...Before she became famous for such films as 'Mississippi Masala' and 'Monsoon Wedding,' Mira Nair wrote and directed the dark and powerful 'Salaam Bombay!', the story of street children and prostitutes in the bustling city.
It is ironic that the film has an exclamation point in its title since it is quite a downer. However, it is full of interesting subtleties and is definitely worth seeing.
Young Krishna (How's that for a loaded name?) has been forced to leave home after setting fire to his brother's bicycle. His mother tells him that he can return home when he has earned 500 rupees, enough to pay for a new bike. Although his age is never given, Krishna seems much too young to be living on his own and says that he misses his mother when he goes to sleep.
The film starts out with Krishna working for a circus in a rural area...

Look - A Mix Of The Latest Trends And Celeb Gossip!
Advantages: Lots of fashion and celeb gossip...
Disadvantages: It is actually quite trashy when you think about it, but I like it anyway!
...Hey everyone, and welcome to my Look review. Ciao failed to save my draft of it so I am starting from scratch, which I am not too happy about, but here goes...
Basic Information
Look is a weekly magazine aimed at women, and contains a mixture of celebrities, fashion and real life. It costs £1.50 per issue and a new issue comes out every Tuesday. It can be found at many supermarkets, newsagents and the usual stockists of magazines (Boots, WHSmith etc...)
First Impressions
'You shouldn't judge a book by its cover' is a phrase which I try to abide to, but when I'm looking to treat myself to a magazine I am obviously going to pick the one with the glossiest cover and the most enticing cover stories (not to mention a reasonable price tag!)...and I must say, Look ticks all the boxes on this front! The editor really must think...

Mumbai (Bombay) is the best
Advantages: The business lifeline of India and South East Asia
Disadvantages: Population
...Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is the most populous Indian city. Mumbai is located on an island off the west coast of India. With an estimated metropolitan population of 17 million, it is the third largest metropolitan area in the world, and clustered along with its outlying satellite townships. The city, which has a deep natural harbor, is also the largest port in western India, handling over half of India's passenger traffic. Mumbai is the commercial capital of India, and houses important financial institutions such as the Bombay Stock Exchange, and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies. Owing to the immense business opportunities available in Mumbai and the relatively high standard of living, it has attracted migrants from all over India and South Asia, making...

Calling Dr. Bombay, Emergency, Come Right Away
Advantages: Good, basic, serviceable, always a happy thing
Disadvantages: None
...Don't tell my mother I'm living in sin,
Don't let the old folks know;
Don't tell my twin that I breakfast on gin,
He'd never survive the blow.
-- A.P. Herbert
-------------------------------------------
Having extolled the virtues of Bombay Sapphire in an earlier opinion, I now turn to the baser lot, the plain jane of Bombay Dry Gin. Alas, it is unfortunate next to the more dazzling Sapphire, for else this gin might be the queen of gins all. I have often wondered if Cinderella's step-sisters were really all that homely, or only seemed such just by comparison to the beauty-pageant mystical creation that the fairy godmother created. So too is the comparison here. Were one never to know of Sapphire, the Bombay Dry Gin would be considered most excellent. As it is, it becomes merely excellent.
As the bottle indicates, this is...

Bombay Dreams awow of a show !!!
Advantages: Terrific score and superb mix of multi-cultural music
Disadvantages: N/A
...This is a wow of a musical that illustrates East meets West as only Andrew Lloyd Weber can produce and Don Black 's lyrics can do. Bombay Dreams combines all the glitz of the movies, heart-rendering romance and a whole pile of epic spectacle.
I was amazed when Isaw this show and heard this wonderful score. It's amazing !!!! The scintillating score composed by the infamous composer A R Rahman takes us on awild journey.
A feast for the senses, Bombay Dreams combines the lot, torment, betrayal, love and success. It tells the story of Akaash, a young slum dweller, who dreams of becoming a huge movie star, and of his fateful encounter with beautiful Priya, the daughter of one of Bollywood's greatest film directors. Can he achieve his dream of stardom or will this come at a price? Will Akaash and Priya's love survive? And will they...
