The Bone Collector
Advantages: Good puzzle, suspense
Disadvantages: None
...The Bone Collector
THe Bone Collector is a 1999 drama-mystery-thriller film starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. It doesn't actually seem like it was made 10 years ago now as I think it is still quite an up to date and current movie.
Ange plays a similar sort of role for her, pretty girl but tough with a bit of an edge. She gets to show her sexy and adventurous side but also a vunerable side too. She is a police officer, like her deceased father who is not really mentioned but you can see that he is definitely her idol. She is just a routine beat cop called Amelia Donaghy but a chance finding of a crime scene on a routine day changes the direction of her career and life forever. This is when she meets and teams up with Lincoln Rhyme.
Rhyme is played by Denzel Washington. At first I thought the pairing of these two was quite...

Bone China by Roma Tearne
Advantages: Interesting easy to read novel
Disadvantages: None
...The author, Roma Tearne, was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Britain when ten years old. Before becoming a writer she trained as a painter and her work has been widely exhibited. Bone China is her second book and is a very enjoyable and moving story, following four generations of the de Silva family, from the 1930's onwards.
The de Silva's are a Tamil family living in Ceylon, or Sri Lanka as it was. Grace is the family matriarch to a somewhat dysfunctional family and is the link that bonds all the characters of the book. Grace was born into a rich land owning family but she marries Aloysius for love and watches with great dignity as, over the years, he drinks and gambles away her family's fortune. Always trying to maintain the traditions and customs of her time, in a country every increasingly torn apart by political and civil...

The Lovely Bone
Advantages: Great story, gorgeous art
Disadvantages: This one-volume version is a little unwieldy
...Bone was originally published as 55 individual comics between the years 1991 and 2004. Each comic was written and drawn by Jeff Smith. While this undertaking doesn?t come close to the 300 issues of Cerebus the Aardvark that Dave Sim put out, it is still an impressive work.
The series was originally compiled in nine graphic novels while this massive tome manages to reprint the entire run on over 1300 beautifully drawn pages.
Storywise, Bone is a delight. The tale begins with three cousins Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone on the run after being chased out of Boneville. They were chased out of Boneville after another one of Phoney?s scams backfired.
Fone Bone represents the heart of the group. Frustrated by Phoney?s dishonesty but loyal to his cousin, he is the story?s conscience and moral centre. Phoncible P. Bone or Phoney is...

The Lovely Bones
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The Lovely Bones is an eerie tale of supernatural realms, while at the same time telling a more earthly story of a grieving family.
Susie Salmon was only 14 years old when she was mercilessly raped, stabbed and literally sliced into pieces by her neighbor George Harvey on her way home from school. He then piles her severed body parts into a bag where he takes them to be tightly locked within a safe, and then thrown into a sink hole. Susie's elbow, however, falls out of the bag, and that is the only remain to ever be found of her.
Some of you are probably outraged while reading this, thinking I've gone and spoiled the entire plot of the novel. Never fear, all that happens as a fast-paced introduction in the first chapter. The real story then begins as Susie enters the afterlife.
Alice Seabold's depiction of heaven is quite...

bone dry
Advantages: it's a book
Disadvantages: it's a bad one
...I despair sometimes, I really do. Our bookshops are crammed to bursting with juicy tomes. All those tasty classics and meaty fictions nestled side by side, shelves stretching out dripping with words and imagery.
And then there is the ?Bestsellers? section.
In my recent drought of things to read I wandered around Ottakers filling my arms with choice looking items. Next to the promising gems of new fiction towered the proclaimed bestsellers. At the top of the gaudy collection of chick or clit lit or whatever they are calling it now, a pale blue intriguing looking novel that I had heard of.
Into my pile went ?The Lovely Bones? by Alice Sebold.
It had some positive quotes littering the jacket. ?Compulsive enough to read in a single sitting, brilliantly intelligent, elegantly constructed and ultimately intriguing? it declared. I...

The Lovely Bones
Advantages: Moving, brings up a lot of issues,
Disadvantages: Drags on a bit, unrealistic parts
...What can I say? Brilliant book.
THE STORY
The Lovely Bones is the story of how the Salmon family cope when their daughter, Susie, who is just 14 years-old, is brutally raped and murdered by a seemingly-harmless loner who lives near them. The story is narrated by Susie herself, looking down on her family in heaven.
If you didn't know anything about this book, you might mistake it for a thriller, or even a horror. It isn't about justice or even religion, as some people may believe - instead, it is a gentle book, neither drama, comedy, or what have you, that deals with the sheer grief that comes with bereavement.
As she watches over her family, seeing her brother and sister grow up, she finds it extremely difficult, especially when her younger sister turn 14, the same age as Susie was when she died. Her yearning and desperation...

Them bones, them bones, them dry bones
Advantages: Easy watching
Disadvantages: None
...Bones is one of my favourite TV series'. The credits state that its based on the books by Kathy Reichs, however, even though most TV programmes/films are a bit different to the books, Bones is completely different. The main character, Doctor Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), bears no resemblance to the character in the book, except that she is a forensic anthropologist.
Usually this would annoy me, but the books are well written and good to read, and the television show is well acted and good to watch.
As noted before the main character is Dr Brennan, an extremely well educated woman, but completely clueless in life's lessons. The character has no idea how to interact with people outside of the scientific community. She is balanced out by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) who is the run of the mill all brawn and no...

dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones.
Advantages: good stories
Disadvantages: genre is getting a little saturated
...applications for Forensic jobs by more than 100%.
Bones takes a similar but visually different approach in that crimes are investigated from a forensic point of view. Although looking at the very different setups between CSI and Bones I assume it is a different form of forensics that is being used, (I am not in Forensics and so I cannot comment). They also team up with the FBI which I think has been put in to A: make it a little more interesting and B: To get them out of the lab.
The programmes two main characters are Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), who is a forensic anthropologist, and Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) of the FBI. Temperance, who, apart from having a silly name and looking suspiciously like David Coulthards sister is quite a strange character. She seems to be completely science driven having few if any social...

Bones and her Squints
Advantages: Funny/Gory/Procedural all roled into one
Disadvantages: H8d the season finale
...Institution which is a lab where they solve the cases. She works with many other squints including Zack Addy, her assistant.
Jack Hogins is the bug specialist and Angela Montenegro is the forensic facial reconstruction artist and from the second season Cam Saroyan is a pathologist who clashes with Temperance.
Ever thought the squints have main parts, the main characters of the show are Temperance and FBI agent Seeley Booth, who works alongside Temperance to solve cases. He gives her the nickname 'Bones'.
Cast Members in more detail
Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel): She's a highly skilled professional forensic anthropologist who also writes novels on her cases on the sideline. When the FBI are stuck, they call in Brennan for help. She works as Booth's partner.
Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz): Played by the very...

The Fiddle and Bone
Advantages: Lovely food,real ale,live music
Disadvantages: none
...of musical instruments suspended from every conceivable surface. There are old violins and trombones, pretty much as you would expect, given the name of the pub! There are all manner of other instruments too, bits of old piano, flutes, oboes you name it it?s there!
If you are into a bag of pork scratchings and Limp Bizkit then this probably isn?t the place for you! It is a real Old Worlde pub with heaps of atmosphere. The walls are plain brick and the floor is also uncovered. The furniture is all pine adding to the rustic feel.
Now why are the instruments all over the pub?
The Fiddle and Bone is owned by two musicians from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Trombonist Danny Longstaff and his partner Mark Robinson (a violinist, what a surprise!) had a dream of converting the then derelict old School house of Sheepcote Street into...
