I never really used to eat jam - possibly because the stuff I used to be given bore little or no resemblance to the fruit that it was supposed to represent. This period of being staunchly anti-jam came to an abrupt end, however, when I was persuaded to try Bonne Maman for the first time: the strawberry flavour being the one that we usually buy. The jar itself persuaded me that this was going to be decent jam. The 370g glass jar comes complete with red and white checked lid - obviously trying to look authentically handmade, although without the cloth covering the top, for health and safety reasons... This impression of being homemade is continued in the labelling - "Bonne Maman Strawberry Conserve" on the front is written, seemingly, in someone's handwriting...

Bon Bonn Or Non-Bon Bonn

Advantages: Nice shops, many museums, various trips
Disadvantages: Lacking in something, I'm just not sure what

Eat, drink and suffer in comfy Bonn surroundings

Advantages: Nice internal surroundings, friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere unless you need the airport

The work of August Macke in a nutshell

Advantages: A good selection of Macke's work; not expensive (can be free)
Disadvantages: Better if you understand German

...If you go to see this impressive house, do not forget that if it was not for the determination of local people it wouldn't be open at all. The Bonn authorities were willing to let the building become a pub but a public campaign saved it, had it restored and in 1991 the doors opened. I?m pleased they did because August Macke is one of my favourite artists and certainly deserves a place for his work to be exhibited. This lovely Classicist style house, built in the 1870s, also houses a museum that puts into context the life of Macke and the artists working around him. ...Jam ? bit of a dull subject, but one I am passionate about. Picture a warm, mouth-watering croissant laced with jam, or a toasted, buttered crumpet with jam oozing into the moist crevices. ...My first memory of a hotel stay involved an Ibis (the one at Euston in London) and it was an enjoyable one, so when the Ibis (pronounced ‘Eye biss’, NOT ‘Ibb iss’) in Bonn turned out to be the cheapest option for a stay in the city, I was happy to accept it. • Booking I made my reservation through Expedia. ...I am addicted to Bonne Maman. I'll tell you how it all started.... I had to make bread and butter pudding, and decided to go luxury, using brioche. The recipe I had called for dried apricots, to be soaked etc etc, however not having the time, I thought I'd be lazy and purchase some gourmet jam instead. I picked up a jar of Bonne Maman Apricot Conserve at Sainsbury's for £1.45 for 370g, and went home to cook. The end result was pretty good, even if I do say so myself - the conserve saved the day! I even managed to sneak a slice of brioche into the toaster, smear some conserve over it, and gobble it down before the man of the house knew what was happening. It was too hard to resist. I love this product, as it has amazing texture. The jar is jam packed (pardon the pun) with fruit chunks and pulp, and is exactly what home made...
