Black Hawk Down

Advantages: Excellent Film
Disadvantages: Not many

...Recently there was an article which really sparked my emotions, both sadness and anger, surprisingly it was in The Sun (the most professional and reliable of the daily papers) the article was on the sate of Somalia and the history of the wars going on in the country. Quoted in the article was a film called Black Hawk Down, which I had heard of but never, had the opportunity to watch and had no clue about, later on when in discussion on the article, somebody brought the film up and highly recommended it. Buying the Film I bought the film in Blockbuster when I was returning a rental; it cost £4 which I thought was highly reasonable for a DVD, especially one which was recommended and according to the front of the DVD won two Oscars, and looked to carry an exciting cast set. Director The film is directed by a man called Ridley...

Tony Hawk is back

Advantages: great graphics, great game, real tony hawk experience
Disadvantages: none

...Tony hawks proving ground is one in a long line of Tony Hawk video games. Tony Hawk video games have been very popular throughout and Proving Ground is no different. Proving round is avalibleon many platforms from console gaming to portable gaming. The proving Ground I have is for the nintendo ds. At the time I bought it for about £8 from argos which at the time I remeber thinking that for a brand new ds £8 is a very good price. A bargain in other words and I wasn't disappounted. For £8 you expect the game to be alright but this went above my expectations. Game modes Story mode This is where you skate through different cities completing challenges and trying to unlock rewards along the way. In this mode there different paths that you can go along such as hardcore skater or pro skater. Each path comes its own different lifestlye...

Hawks is Back! (not Chesney)

Advantages: Good Game Play
Disadvantages: Novilty wearing off

...Tony Hawks Proving Ground for the Wii.... Having only recently bought a Wii console I was a bit unsure as to what games to get that would have the best game play. Initially with the console I got more sport like games but because I purchased several of sport type games I was soon a little fed up and that took me to my local Game store where I swapped Mario Olympics for Tony Hawks Proving Ground (and Call of Duty). The game was priced at £29.99pencebut luckily enough was on a boy one get one free offer so with the swap of my Mario game I only had to pay an additional £10 to get Tony Hawks and Call of Duty. I thought this a great deal. The age rating on this game is a 12 so there is not really much blood and gore thankfully as it is only a skateboarding game! Now I have played many Tony Hawks games right from the first one...

Hawks Hatchet Job

Advantages: Reasonably amusing
Disadvantages: Predictable, unlikely

...Anyone who has read "Round Ireland with a Fridge" in which Tony Hawks gives an account of how he dragged a small refrigerator around the coast of Ireland to win a bet, will be forgiven for assuming that hawks has now moved further afield to heave a Steinway through the mountains between France and Spain. For once, this is a Tony Hawks book that has not come about because of a crazy bet; in the best he has taken on bets to demonstrate his tennis skills (in "Playing the Moldovans at Tennis") and has traveled the world in the hope of having another hit single (in "One Hit Wonderland" he tried to add to his tally of one hit single, the first being the unmemorable "Stutter Rap" by Morris Minor and the Majors), as well as dragging a white appliance along the coastal byways of Eire. " A Piano in the Pyrenees" sees our hero by a small...

Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke

Advantages: Almost a good book
Disadvantages: Shallow narrative and two dimensional characters

...Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke I bought this on whim when I was recently stocking up on books for my daily commute. I had no idea that Ethan Hawke was now writing books but was swayed by the cover art and blurb and was intrigued to see the kind of work he was putting out. Pretty thin reasons for buying a book but there you go. Here's what I thought. As an actor Hawke has been around for many years now, first coming to prominence in the saccharine Robin Williams blub fest that was Dead Poet's Society. Since that time he has appeared in many Hollywood films of varying quality but has managed to build himself a solid reputation as a semi-serious thesp. As an author he published his first novel, 'The Hottest State', in the late nineties and followed it several years later with 'Ash Wednesday'. 'The Hottest State' is a tale...

Black Hawk Down

Advantages: Easy to play and complete
Disadvantages: Badly written basic shooting game

...Black Hawk Door is a first person shooter, the next in the Delta Force series of games, it has the same name as the film and the book but is not made by the same people although it is obviously using it as a base. Story You play as a soldier in the American Army and the game is set in Somalia in the 1990's, you are on a peacekeeping mission so you have to protect convoys, provide security and defend areas from attack and for each mission you play a soldier from different regiment. Game play A average first person shooter with weapons based on real weapons at the time. The levels are all pretty much standard for a shooter game you have to follow the path set out not much area for you to explore As in most games of this type you have to select your weapon and can only carry limited ammo for them so you have to choose...

Advantage Hawks

Advantages: Good writing, very funny
Disadvantages: Not many surprises as far as plot goes

...Tony Hawks thinks he's quite good at tennis: he even won the Equity tennis tournament a few years ago. His mate, Arthur Smith, isn't so sure. Tony reckons that because he had coaching when he was younger, he has been given a good grounding in the basic skills of the game. Arthur, however, claims that anyone with just a bit of natural sporting ability could play a decent game of tennis. In order to test his theory, Arthur suggests that Tony should challenge all the footballers of the Moldovan national team to a game of tennis. If Tony beats every one of them, Arthur will stand naked on Balham High Road and sing the Moldovan national anthem. If you are already familiar with Tony Hawks, you will know that Tony is not a man to turn down a challenge. Well, certainly not a challege so easy that all you have to do is travel to eastern...

Rescue the downed Black Hawk

Advantages: Super playable missions based on real events
Disadvantages: Darn hard

...There are a couple of different versions of this release, its actually part of NovaLogic's extremely successful Delta Force series of games. It appears they dropped the Delta Force label from some versions of the release but it still has all the elements of the original Delta Force & Delta Force: Land Warrior. Basically you take on the role of a member of the Delta Force special ops team going in to rescue the guys downed in the Black Hawk helicopter crash in Mogadishu back in the 1990's. All the missions are based on real scenarios that US Special Forces took on as missions. Let me tell you, they ARE NOT easy missions! I consider myself to be pretty experienced as someone who has completed both Delta Force AND Land Warrior and this series of missions are extremely tough. Its a First Person Shooter but there's a lot more AI...

We Have a Black Hawk Down

Advantages: Best War Film of last year.
Disadvantages: It was actually a true story

...doesn't go as smoothly as they'd hoped the American's find themselves dragged into a fire fight. If that wasn't enough one of their Black Hawk helicopters has been shot down and with the motto of "leave no man behind" the Ranger's have to get to the downed helicopter before the locals do. The film is based on the book of the same name by Mark Bowden, which he collated from stories of those that were in Mogadishu on this mission. It quickly established itself as one of the best War films ever made and having watched it countless times I have to say I'd agree. It does contain a little of the sickening American flag waving hero stuff towards the end but overall the feel of the movie is very gripping. It is quite possibly one of the grittiest War films made and on the whole has quite an honest feel to it. In director Ridley Scott, the man...
