Bora? Whats That
Advantages: Handling, Looks, Style
Disadvantages: lacks on extras
...The VW Bora, some people have not heard of this car before neither had i till i was looking for a VW Passat and was offered a bora instead, as soon as i saw it i fell in love with its looks, Metallic blue, only 22000 miles on a W-reg (2000) , 1.6s 16v, FVWSH, PAS 4x Electric Windows, ABS and that Beautiful bluey glow from the dashboard all VWs come with all for £7499.00. but thats where it stop i bought the car and at first it was amazing as lively as a puppy dog with the response and alertness of a tiger, for the first few days, then i filled the tank with petrol got 4 passengers in and off i went, "stalled it", unbelieveable the extra weight was making the handling sluggish i didnt like it one bit my new car did not have the power to keep up its performance (dont get me wrong i am talking about the Bora that was the Base of all...

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec
Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked
...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs.
I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for.
I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in.
The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair.
The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

VW Bora - a drivers dream
Advantages: Reliable, excellent handling, cool gadgets and good fuel consumption
Disadvantages: Not as spacious as the Passat
...An excellent all rounder. We have been using it as a family car and although their are a few complaints regarding the shortage of space at the back, the car is virtually faultless. The best thing about the Bora, as any other Bora owner will tell you, is the smooth drive. Its like your on a plane. Anyone who has driven a smaller or older car will tell you that once they got into the Bora, it was like they were driving on a velvet carpet - well nearly.
In terms of size and price, the Bora comes in between the VW Golf and the VW Passat and has the best of both worlds - the smoothness of the drive and the stature of the car.
Inside, the car feels and looks modern, especially with the many gadgets and tools. You find new gadgets every now and again which you never thought existed. Only a short while ago, after many years of ownership...

Review of Peugeot 306 1.6LX
Advantages: Comfortable seats, quite nippy, nice styling,
Disadvantages: Thirsty Engine, Small at the back, Electronics failure, mechanical problems
...of another car as I was heading for a roundabout, my bonnet curled inwards and my front bumper and lights were smashed in, but the airbags didnt go off so as much as i thought it was a serious accident it was only a minor.
Maintenance:
The car Maintenance costs and repair costs was quite high even for a 1.6litre petrol
once my Fuel Pump had a leak as petrol was seaping out of the car the repair cost was about £100 plus £80 labour, as its a lot of money for me as i am a student, cosmetic damage was about £550 including labour.
Fuel Consumption:
Petrol Costs are much higher no thanks to the credit crunch that we all struggling from, but its not so bad if you dont thrash the car about and you are a sensible driver you can get about 3 days of petrol on £20 but even still petrol goes quite quickly.
If I had the choice i would have opted...

Nissan Note Tekna 1.6
Advantages: Good performance, economical, well kitted out.
Disadvantages: none except tyre size
..., the boot has a false floor so all the bits and bobs you carry around can be kept out of sight, the spare is a compact spacesaver type, the wing mirrors can be retracted electronically and wipers are auto rain sensitive, the lights are also auto light sensitive, all windows are electric and can all be controlled by the driver, drivers window is fully auto up/down if needed.
Driving the car is very good, it has a sporty feel to it, the engine is responsive and brakes are very good, having only done one long trip in it, as most of my journeys are short hops in towns, the fuel consumtion is running at 42mpg which for a 1.6 engine is good.
The on road cost for the car should be £13,500 but mine was a staff car with 500 miles on the clock only a few months old, I paid £10,500
and I would recommend to anyone to look for these sort of deals as I...

Skoda Octavia 1.6 GLi
Advantages: Spacious, comfortable, economical to buy and run.
Disadvantages: Not a car for the fashion conscious.
...likely to get would be pretty high too.
The model we settled on was the Octavia 1.6 GLi, which suits our needs admirably. It?s massive boot means that my wheelchair will fit lying flat, and still leave huge amounts of room for shopping, or luggage as well. Front and back seats I have found comfortable even on long journeys, and there is leg room enough that if you carry adult passengers in the back seat, no one is squashed. Driver and Front passenger both get airbags, and they have still managed to provide a reasonably sized glove compartment ? something that I?ve noticed is often lost, or substantially reduced when a passenger airbag is included. Oh, and the car comes with ABS braking, which is pretty much a necessity these days, and certainly a definite advantage!
There are plenty of gadgets and gizmos on the electronics side too...

Ford Focus 1.6 - Shocking!!
Advantages: Handling and Looks
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Bodywork, Transmission...
...Two years ago I decided to buy a brand new car, and after much research I decided upon the Ford Focus 1.6 (old style now). Everything I had read pointed towards a really good choice. So I went into my local Ford dealer and a week later I had my nice new car.
First thoughts were a good looking car, well built, fantastically smooth to drive, held the roads amazingly well. All of the equipment worked wonderfully well and I absolutley loved my new car. Then the problems began....
After two weeks the Airbag Modulator failed, so I went back to the dealer, and they replaced the faulty part within a few days. They wouldn't let me have a courtesy cat so was left hanging around the dealers for a few hours. All work was under warranty so no cost to me.
Three weeks after the Modulator fault I was washing the car and noticed tiny rust spots...

A Poor Man's Golf
Advantages: Good Performance for 1.6, Comfortable, Safe, Reliable
Disadvantages: Expensive replacement parts and servicing, Difficult to park at first
...I aquired my VW Bora 1.6 S in November 2005 but at the time I had my heart set on a VW Golf Mk 4 TDi. However I soon found out that this was way out of my price range and was persuaded to have a look at a Bora.
The body of the car is pleasing to look at but not as impressive or sporty as the Golf Mk 4. Both share the same chassis, engine, and parts, additionally VW claim that due to the extra mass (1248Kg to be precise) the Bora holds the road better and is safer. I don't know how true this is but my simple physics GCSE tends to make me believe them.
The interior of the car is very well laid out with comfortable seats in the front which 'grip' your back nicely. The seats in the back aren't so good, however as I'm never in the back its not a major issue - Leg room in the rear is adequate but not fantastic. Front seats are fully...

Focus 1.6 - A fun stylish serious car.
Advantages: Comfortable, spacious for passengers, driver and lugage. Nippy and stylish.
Disadvantages: Its not the ST170 and its not the RS.
...My 1.6 is one of the late early 2001 models and it is a pleasure to drive it was second hand and had two previous owners, I'm not sure how they treated it but when I picked it up it was in pristine condition which to me says that it is a fairly hardwearing car. Its smooth lines and contours make for a slightly sporty look as well as the memories of the Rally focus in all its glory tearing up the WRC. It is a very smooth ride with fantastic handling so if you are a little heavy on the peddle it has the strength to compensate. Acceleration is good and you through the range of the 5 speed gear box, and at the other end of the scale the brakes are hot too mine only has discs on the front and Drums on the back but there is plenty there to slow down the 125 horses that kick out of the engine.
If you are into modifying cars then...

Honda civic 1.6 sport - a good buy.
Advantages: Looks, reliability, performance, economy
Disadvantages: some little niggles (see text)
...The 1.6 civic sport is now the second civic I've owned from new and there are a number of reasons why I've stayed faithful to the Honda brand. Honda engines are very reliable and I have yet to have any problems in this regard. Moreover, the dealers are generally easily accessible and most offer a relatively high level of customer service throughout - whether your car's in for a service or just a new set of wiper blades.
The 1.6 engine, as well as being reliable is also economical. I drive the car pretty hard and it still returns in the region of 32 mpg which is pretty good going. Less 'spirited' driving returns an mpg closer to 36. A full tank of petrol comes in at around £35.00 for me and that's at around 85p per litre. I've had the car 9 months now and it's covered around 14k miles. In this time it's had its first service at 12...
