Bose Sound Dock (2nd Generation)

Advantages: Incredible sound from such a small unit, good build quality

...I bought this unit in November this year. There are two models, the original sound dock which I think is about £199 and the second generation one (the one I bought) which was £279 from John Lewis. The second generation one is basically the same as the first except: a) it has a rechargeable battery b) it has a swing out dock c) it has an auxiliary (3.5mm) jack input If you just want a basic model, then go for the first gen one. I got the second gen one because I thought the battery was a useful addition as is the auxiliary 3.5mm input - I have mine connected to an apple airport express that streams itunes from my laptop to my bedroom although I have used it in a friends house with my ipod too. Bose rocks

...Before i start this reveiw i want to state that the Bose soundock is an exceptional piece of kit. Before i bought mine i toyed with the idea of a lesser quality and obviously less expensive option but was lucky to hear a freinds unit before i spent any money,needless to say the difference in sound quality is like compareing a honda to a porshe. Personally i'm a convert but i will try to be unbiased. SIZE 6.65" H x 11.91" W x 6.48" D . 16.89 x 30.26 x 16.47 cm . (Basically the speaker face is slighty smaller than an A4 sheet of paper and although it is just over 6" deep, 1.5-2" is taken up by the ipod dock which makes the speaker quite slim) 4.56 lb (2.1 kg) . ...I did not expect this level of sound quality from such a small speaker! The Bose SoundDock is a small, compact speaker system for the Ipod range. It has great looks, amzing sound quality and suprising power! There are two different sound docks.. the first one was basically a plug in speaker system just for use with the ipod, perfectly good for anyone who is looking for amazing quality. Sound On long journeys; planes, trains and buses the Q3?s noise cancelling technology blocks out almost background droning sound, especially low frequencies such as engine noise. However higher frequency outside noise such as babies crying does cut through, although slightly dulled. The sound the headphones produce is crystal clear which at times can be frustratingly so, as it picks up every minute imperfection in original recordings or bodged CD rips. The bass is clear, precise and almost without blur. The only down side would be that the sound sometimes comes across as bland and clinical. ...Bose SoundDock Digital Music System I happened to get this as a gift and it turned out to be quiet interesting Summary: This dock is used mainly for ipod and allows you to connet mp3 players to it and listen to high quality music via speakers. It is idle for homes and small gatherings, although I would not run a party off these. Pros: This system has terrific sound and can go very load despite its relative small size. As with almost all Bose speakers the quality is amazing, so long as the source you are playing it from is high quality it will allow the speakers to each its potential. I have a surround sound Bose set up in one of my rooms but now prefer to use this product as it is very simple to operate. Just plug the mp3 player in and press play and your set. Not up to usual Bose standard.

Disadvantages: Poor sound quality and quite pricey.

Docking the ipod is also a bit of a fiddle too, it feels a bit loose which makes you think it isn't docked properly. when you switch it on the remote works fine but the buttons don't always activate it first time. My biggest gripe however is.... the sound quality.... poor, total disappointment. Obviously you are playing mp3's and mp4's so they aren't the highest quality tracks, but the Bose shaped speakers just don't seem to have the usual Bose ooompff you would even get from a Bose radio. Since buying the system it has had minimal use because of this, it was bought to use in the office but we have gone back to using our stereo system or playing mp3's via our computer speakers. This may just be a dud unit I've ended up with but other people I know who have bought the Bose Dock don't seem particularly blown away by it either....
