...The Kings Arms, Horncastle Road, Boston has just been refurbished and is looking wonderful. We went for Sunday lunch the first weekend it reopened. As I am a Boston girl and Bateman?s being the local brew, what a fitting place to go for a pint and lunch. The outside of the pub is clean and inviting, the windows gleamed in the sunshine and with a great view across the river, The Maud Foster, of Boston Windmill. We walked in and the bar opens up in front of you with an array of hand pumps selling the Bateman?s beer. Mick the landlord is quiet imposing behind the bar, but very friendly. He also pulls a great pint. I had the best pint (well not just one) of Bateman?s Dark Mild that I have tasted in years. Well done that man. Around the walls are commemorative beer mats of Bateman?s, in frames not just stuck to the wall with blue...

BOSTON IN DECEMBER

Advantages: Excellent dollar rate, laid back city
Disadvantages: Spent too much shopping and did not get to see the famous New England Fall trees!

...About a month ago now, my partner Paul and l headed off for a short break to Boston, Massachusetts, from 2nd December until 7th December. We flew from Belfast City airport with BMI – at a cost of around £80 per person return, flying on to from London Heathrow with United Airlines to Washington Dulles then to Boston’s Logan International airport. This cost approximately £550 for 2 adults. Now we flew with United for one simple reason – United are Star Alliance members – we could have flown direct to Boston with the likes of British Airways or Virgin Atlantic – but we would not have gained air miles and membership miles (l know its sad!) The overall flight took from 8.55am and we arrived into Boston around 2pm (-5 GMT). So it was just over 10 hours – a direct flight would take over 7 hours...

Boston Hilton

Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good location
Disadvantages: Prices during the week

...I like my home comforts when I am travelling abroad, but Mr Tart is quite happy to stay in any old hostel. We were looking for somewhere to stay on a trip to Boston and had decided that a guest house would be a happy medium. However, they weren?t that cheap and when I had a look on Expedia and found a Hilton for less money I couldn?t believe my luck! LOCATION: This Hilton is located in Boston?s Financial District. It is at 89 Broad Street. Despite it being in the Financial District we found it very easy to walk from the hotel to the main tourist sites of the city. Quincy Market and the Old State House were only 10 minutes walk away. PRICES: The price of this particular hotel seems to vary a lot depending on when you stay and who you book through. As the hotel is in the Financial District it puts up a lot of business...

Advantages: Historic, culturally diverse and not too huge a city.
Disadvantages: Not many, unless you don't like cities, or America, or fish.

...Wyndham Boston Room rates: We visited the Wyndham Boston in September 2005 and booked via the Wyndham's own website which not only guarantees the best rates (and this is true as I did a LOT of checking!) it also entitles you to membership of Wyndham By Request whereby you specify your room type preferences such as bedding and also a free welcome drink and snack upon arrival; a nice touch! We were also contacted on two occasions by our Wyndham Request Manager Jessica to check if everything was okay with our stay. We paid approx $160 for a twin room including breakfast. If you can be flexible over dates then you can get some great deals on room rates with some rooms only rates being available from $120 +. The church opens its doors to the public daily, Mon-Sat 9am- 4.30pm and 1pm - 4pm on Sundays during the summer months, but as this is a working church at times of weddings etc, they do ask that these times are respected to the families that have hired the church. As you walk through the doors you are once again greeted by a vast array of space and beautiful architecture, fighting its way to match the cathedrals of the country. It was beautiful and worth taking the time to soak up the atmosphere and history of the church, marvel in the craftsmanship and the labour of the workforce it took to build this magnificent structure. Boston Tea Party

Advantages: 'European' sized rooms can be a bargain
Disadvantages: Easy to fall into the trap of putting expensive drinks on the bill!

...We were lucky enough to be invited to a wedding in Boston last year, which provided me with the excuse to book a holiday to the States. My other half hardly put up an excuse either as he's never visited the USA. I love using the net to find great deals on independent travel, so I customised a 10 day holiday which saw us take a hire car up the east coast and into French Canada first, and then hit Boston in time for a pre-wedding party, the big day, and a couple of days sight-seeing afterwoods. I knew things were going to go well when we got a virgin atlantic upgrade because we wouldn't have been able to sit together in economy! It's never happened before, and may never happen again, but that champagne on the upper deck tasted better than I've ever tasted in my life! ...area of Boston. The hotel is located on the junction of Arlington and St James Ave, there is a very large multi-storey car park or garage as the Americans like to call them across the street. There is also Arlington station a MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) station within 100 metres, this is on the green line a very handy line as it stops at most of the tourist areas such as the science museum, art gallery, prudential tower, and the government centre, and at $1.25 it is a bargain. The Hotel is very near the Boston Public Garden which is very picturesque and has a beautiful pond which is the summer you can take a Swan paddle boat, unfortunately for us the pond was frozen so no paddle boats this time. Copley Square is about a ten minute walk from the hotel, or available on the MBTA ++++++++++Formalities...

...With a tasty beer like this, no wonder they through all that tea into Boston harbour. American lagers are not my first choice of beers. However, SAMUEL ADAMS BOSTON LAGER, while not overwhelming, IS very tasty and much more interesting than the usual suspects (Bud, Miller etc.). This is due no doubt to the company’s commitment to pure and natural ingredients. They also use traditional brewing processes to brew Samuel Adams Boston Lager. In it's first five years, Samuel Adams went on to become the first American beer to pass the German Beer Purity Law and to be sold in Germany (no mean feat). -~-~-~-~ THE POUR -~-~-~-~ Boston Lager pours to a golden, deep copper colour with a thick, frothy and creamy, white head, which leaves a nice 'Belgian lace' effect on the inside of the glass.
