Bran Flakes - Delightful
Advantages: They have a very simple but very nice taste. The texture varies nicely and they stay crunchy for longer than most cereals. They give you a very good start to the day and they are very healthy
Disadvantages: They may be slightly more expensive than the average cereal, but still worth it
...~Introduction~
They say, that breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day. It is said to give you that burst of energy that kick starts your day and takes you through to lunch. It is a pretty fair comment, because if you eat in the evening at 8 o'clock at the latest and not until midday the follwing day then your meals are 16 hours apart. The body is going to need some sort of energy, as sleeping does require energy. Having a breakfast in the morning, will prevent you from having to snack, which generally involves eating things that are bad for you such as crisps and chocolate.
I like nothing more than a bowl of Bran Flakes, now known as All-Bran Bran Flakes, in the morning to start my day. They really fill you up and get you through well past lunch time. They help you to wake up and you need that on some mornings...

Tesco Healthy Choices Bran Flakes - Doesn't Taste Like Cardboard!
Advantages: Healthy and filling
Disadvantages: Doesn't come close to a jam doughnut!
...Tesco Light Choices Bran Flakes
In keeping with trying to eat a few more healthy products in my diet, I thought I would give these Bran Flakes a go.
What are they like?
The packet is 500g and is predominantly white, with a rather attractive picture of some Bran Flakes with strawberries added.
It stresses that they are part of the 'light choices' range and gives us the following information.
~They contain 30% less fat than standard Tesco fruit and fibre.
~A good source of fibre.
~A source of folic acid.
They contain 160 calories per portion, only 2.7g of fat (1.5g of which are saturates), which is worked out on the basis that it is served with 125ml of semi-skimmed milk.
They are fortified with vitamins and minerals, and a serving contains 30% of the RDA for iron, which is why I was initially interested in them...

Bran is a Good Way to Start The Day
Advantages: healthy
Disadvantages: can be boring
...Kellogg's Bran Flakes......
Having started my new healthier eating and higher exercise regime I started looking for a breakfast that was going to give me a good enough boost so that I could take part in early morning exercise but something that was not full of a lot of calories or fat.
I had never tried Bran Flakes before but looking at the nutritional values that they contain, they seem to be the best breakfast cereal around. Not only offering low calories and fat but also good for iron and to keep you regular!
The Kellogg's Bran Flakes compared to stores own brand seem to be again better by far. I compared Tesco's Health Choice Bran Flakes along side Kellogg's version and the difference was quite unbelievable. Tesco Healthy Choice had higher calories, fat and sugars and wasn't that much cheaper for the same size box...

Tasty & healthy Sainsbury's Honey Nut Bran Flakes
Advantages: Good for you, high in fibre, cheap and can put different toppings on
Disadvantages: Can get boring and not great for cold mornings
...COST: £1.37
PLACE OF PURCHASE: Sainsburys
WEIGHT: 500g
NUMBER OF SERVINGS: 12
SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS: Yes
Sold in 500g boxes only this is a sainsburys own brand alternative to honey nut flakes from Kelloggs. Similar to the Kelloggs brand these are brown wheat flakes with extra added bran for more healthiness, coated with honey & nuts so don't taste as plain as the regular bran flakes which also makes them slightly more platteable.
Why are they a healthy option? Because not only are they suitable for vegetarians, contain no GM ingredients, are a low fat food, fortified with essential vitamins & Iron but are high in fibre which means lower in calories, and has with extra folic acid which is fantastic for pregnant women!
However for those of you with allergies beware, contains nuts, wheat & gluten.

Flakes for breakfast
Advantages: good for you
Disadvantages: a bit bland on thier own
...Kellogg's bran flakes.
Good morning rise and shine , hope you are going to have a good breakfast before you go to wok /school I am I shall be eating Kellogg's special k with red fruit + Kellogg's bran flakes . I find the special k too sweet so I add a few bran flakes and it is scrummy. /
I usually buy a shops own bran type flake to add to my special; k usually works out cheaper. But Today I have a box of Kellogg's they are now marketed as All bran bran flakes
Kellogg is an American based company that produces many breakfast cereals it was founded in 1906. The cereals they make are among the better tasting quality and taste.
I buy my cereals in Tesco where bran flakes cost £1 94 for 750g, £1 for 500g. Tesco' own cost 89p for 500 g. Kellogg's bran flakes are also available as an organic option or yoghurt option.
But sticking to...

Wham Bam Thankyou Bran
Advantages: healthy and quick breakfast
Disadvantages: doesn't suit all tastes
...As my Mum always reminds me, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Although a fry up always seems quite appealing, in the morning I am bleary-eyed and really can't be bothered messing around with frying pans etc. Instead I stumble into the kitchen and reach for a bowl, some semi-skimmed milk and Bran Flakes.
COST
Kellogg's Bran Flakes cost just under £2 for a 750g box. You can also get a 500g box - I would guess this costs about £1.50. To be honest I'm a bit of a bran flake whore and will take any bran flakes that are going - Tesco Bran Flakes, Sainsbury's Bran Flakes, Asda Bran Flakes - I've had them all. I can't really taste any difference and the own-brand versions are cheaper.
PACKAGING
Kellogg's Bran Flakes are packaged in a charming blue box that also informs us that they are "Healthwise", whatever that...

I'm a Fan of Bran; especially at this price
Advantages: Very healthy; very cheap; as good if not better than Kellogg's
Disadvantages: The box doesn't refil itself
...Some people would consider Branflakes to be pretty much the same as Cornflakes, except made with Bran and a bit denser. I however think they are incomparable; Branflakes are in a league of their own!
I'll start with the differences between Branflakes and Cornflakes just in case you're confused and then I'll move onto describing Tesco Value's own brand compared to the market leaders' version (I am of course refering to Kelloggs).
Ingredients wise, cornflakes and branflakes are made from two completely different crops making the taste and texture a different experience. Cornflakes are made from Maize, giving them a light crispness, whereas branflakes are made from wholewheat and wheat bran, making them denser and crunchier.
Secondly, appearence. Cornflakes are usually small bubbly golden flakes that break easily. Branflakes...

Bran enriched wheat flakes with sultanas.
Advantages: Nutritious
Disadvantages: None
...A few weeks back my Mother came to stay and I purchased, at her request, a box of Kellogg's All-Bran Sultana Bran. She always has a small bowl of this in the morning with the tiniest amount of sugar and a couple of tablespoon-fulls of semi-skimmed milk.
When she left she forgot to take what was left back home with her. Not wanting to throw good food away I decided to try them. Now I am not the best person to do this as I hate cereal of all types, don't like the texture, but my Mum loves them and says they keep her "regular".
To be honest when I tipped some onto my plate they looked very uninviting, dark brown flakes with a few sultanas dotted around. I don't like sweet things so I decided not to add sugar, particularly as in the nutrition information on the box a typical serving has 20g of sugar. I didn't like them...

Flakey goodness!
Advantages: delicious, healthy, cheap
Disadvantages: /
...We're always being pressured into eating a healthy breakfast - and I must admit, it is the best way to start the day. If I skip breakfast I find myself feeling drained and unable to go right through to lunchtime. Though I can't stomach anything heavy first thing in the morning, I'm not the type to eat a full English breakfast or bagels layered with butter. For me it has to be cereal, and healthy options at that! I have always loved bran flakes, so when I came across the Healthy Living Bran Flakes from Tesco, I was keen to try!
The bran flakes come in a cardboard box, and on the front there is a picture of a bowl with the bran flakes in them. They don't look exciting, but they look normal at least which is about as promsing as things can get as far as bran flakes are concerned. Opening up the box you will find a plastic packet insde...

Something with a bit of bite
Advantages: Healthy, filling.
Disadvantages: Price
...Forget all the health fads you hear these days, one of the most obvious and important things you can do to keep yourself and your body healthy is to eat breakfast. It is pointless to skip breakfast, even if you're not starving, because it will automatically mean that you will eat unhealthy crap food until lunchtime!
Enter Kellogg's All-Bran Bran Flakes (great new name huh (?)), because I believe this is one of the best cereals to have to fill you up at breakfast, keep you going until lunch, and being full of lots of healthy stuff! This is also a great cereal for families, because you can add fruit for variation and yet keep it interesting, rather than kids eating something chocolaty and sugary with twenty million calories.
Here's the health information. First, an average 100g serving (which is a good bowlful) has 324 calories...
