Worth the pain - Braun Silk-Epil X'elle
Advantages: Effective and long lasting
Disadvantages: Painful!
...For some reason, despite being blonde and fairly dainty in other respects, I've been cursed with leg hair that belongs to someone else - someone like my big grizzly bear of a boyfriend! It grows so fast that I usually have to shave my legs every day in the summer, which is a right pain. I've tried hair removal creams and found it just took longer, smelt horrible and didn't last any better, and waxing which brought me out in nasty bumps and didn't even get all the hairs. Bah. Anyway, I thought I'd give this a try as I had nothing to lose other than the 50 quid it cost me from Argos (although it's probably available cheaper online), and I've probably spent that loads of times over on razors and shaving foam... I was drawn in by the promise of smooth legs for 4 weeks - too good to be true?...

Advantages: Easy to use, versatile
Disadvantages: Ingrowing hairs
...have managed it myself a couple of times. I actually think that the hairs on my underarms and my bikini line have grown back less dense than before.
However, I have been very disappointed with the results on my legs. My legs are quite hairy and I remove the hairs from the upper and lower parts of my leg...normally I shave them daily which produces a nice smooth effect but is a real pain to have to do all the time. I thought the Braun would mean that I wouldn't have to pay my leg hairs so much attention but it hasn't quite worked out that way. After 2 weeks of epilating every other day, I had the most awful ingrowing hairs on my legs. It didn't seem to affect my underarms or bikini line but my legs were covered in them. One or two got a bit infected and went red and if I ran my hands up my legs, all I could feel were little lumps...

Braun 5685 skil epil x elle
Advantages: quick & easy to use
Disadvantages: slightly noisy
...I had never thought of using an epilator (mostly due to hearing how painful it is!!) until I saw it advertised in a magazine so I decided to stop being a wimp and to give it a go!
I was slightly put off by the noise and the speed of the rollers spinning however when I plucked up the courage I was very surprised by how little the pain was! This has a cooling pack and the rollers "massage" as you go which help this be less painful than I originally thought.
I have used the beginner head and gradually worked my way up to the expert which cuts the time in half due to have double the amount of tweezers which is slightly more painful but quicker!
There is an additional head you can use which is designed for under arms and bikini lines (I haven't plucked up the courage to use this yet!)

Advantages: quicker than tweezing, the light, face and other attachment, ice pack
Disadvantages: can hurt, & tweezers can go blunt after awhile.
...skin smoother, but the pulling of the hairs can hurt. and sometimes depending on the quality of the epilator, this my at times cut the hair rather than pulling, therefore causing you to have stubbleregrowth.
and we all know, us ladies HATE THE STUBBLE FEEL.
you may or will get the reddening of the skin, but that will soon disappear after a few hours.
try not to eipalte your skin just before or after you have a bath, cus you may become or feel a bit tender. any how, go ahead give the braun a go, it may or may not achieve the results that you are looking for. it has some what worked for me.
but over all its a good thing to have in your cupboard.
also mains and recahargeable would be nice to have....

Soft and smooth silk-epil
Advantages: Spotlight for seeing little hairs
Disadvantages: slightly painful
...I had the old Braun silk-epil since about 1999 and when it gave up the ghost I started shaving again. After a couple of months I noticed that I was hairier than usual and got really annoyed at having to shave every couple of days so decided to invest in another of Braun's epilators.
I must admit that this particular model comes with lots of accessories (shaving head, small/starter epilator head, intermediate epilator head with massager, advanced epilator head & ice pack with glove) which I find excessive but if you are new to epilating I can see the advantage in being able to get used to using one by building up in stages.
Having come from already using an epilator but having shaved for a couple of months, I used the 40 tweezer head with the intermediate massager heads and found it most comfotable to use especially when compared to my...

Advantages: Left my legs hair free and less pain than waxing.

...Hair free and not as painfull as led to believe.
After all these years I invested in an epilator. I always thought it would hurt as everyone I knew had said it was.
When I opened my product it looked scarey. I plugged it into the mains, it has a long wire which made it easier. I was sweating with fear at the noise before even trying. I thought no pain no gain and used the expert head first as there are two different head one for beginners. It is loud and has a light so you can see your hair. After the initial pain which was not bad the massagers took the pain away. It just felt like a sharp tingle. It can be a little more sharp round the ankle but I got over it.
This is better than waxing as that is definitly more painfull and for anyone who wants to make it less scratchy there is an ice pack for the more frightened first time...

Braun 5580 epilator
Advantages: Keeps legs smooth for longer

...I had been undecided for some time about whether or not to buy this product. Eventually, having read other reviews I decided to get it. There was an offer on on Amazon at the time and as I also had some vouchers it ended up costing £35 instead of £64 as is the price in most shops. With hindsight I'm glad I didn't pay the full price.
I'd picked up on the idea that epilating was going to be painful, and so when I first did it I made sure I'd had a glass of wine first in the hope that this would take away some of the pain! It was painful. The set comes with starter head and then standard. Having tried the starter head I soon decided to just use the standard. The starter is designed with few tweezers in to get your skin used to it; this means the process is even slower and so the pain goes on...! The first time I did it it took...

Braun epilator - a great choice!
Advantages: Efficient and quick, useful light.
Disadvantages: Quite noisy
...Although very unsure about using an epilator,I finally bit the bullet and bought this one 2 months ago. The first time I switched it on I was shocked at how loud it was and how scary the tweezers looked, but soon got into the swing of it. The small light on the front of it really helps to show up little hairs youve missed and the choice between a beginners head and a more advanced head really allows you to break yourself into the experience gently. The arrow head attachment also allows accuracy in a smaller area. Ever since though Ive had great results with it, much better than anything that I was getting from razors or waxing! Its not cheap but I would say its well worth the money. The little bag it all comes in and the inclusion of the ice pack aswell is very useful....

...Reasons for taking the plunge!
Like most of us ladies (and some men?!!) we are always looking for ways to remove unwanted hair and I am no different! For years I have shaved my legs and underarms and experienced the pain of waxing the bikini line! I was fed up with the tiresome job of shaving my legs every other day and an epilator was recommended to me by a friend.
I decided to do a bit of research and was at first quite shocked at the prices of these 'torture tools'! However the promise of smooth legs for up to four weeks was too much of a temptation so I took the plunge! I decided on the Silk-epil model as it was a brand I was aware of and the extras seem to make it a good buy.
