...I bought the Braun Silk Epil X'elle 5685, as I'd just about had enough of the tedious chore of waxing, and the stubbly effects left by shaving, plus my friend had been raving about epliation ever since she bought hers last year. I'd avoided it previously as they do look like instruments of medieval torture, but I finally gave in (after being nudged by the half price sale in Boots). I purchased mine for £36.99, as oppsoed to the original tag of £69.99. i have to say I'm happy so far. It comes with incredibly handy mutliple head for different uses, I've stuck to the beginners head for now, which has fewer tweezers and massaging rollers to ease the pain. I think after a few goes, I'll graduate to the 'expert' head, which has more tweexers and a closer epilation to make the job quicker. there's also a separate head for underams... Read review

...After reading all of the rave reviews about this product: "Virtually Painless", "No Rash!", "Legs Smooth and Silky for Longer", etc. I decided to buy one for myself as I was sick and tired of shaving. When my Braun Silk-Epil arrived I was over-joyed and could not wait to test the wonders of it's epilating loveliness... It was slightly painful at first, until my leg when numb. Actually it was more of a discomfort that a real "pain". After epilating for more than a few minutes raised red bumps appeared on my legs, I believe they were caused by the agitation to my skin from the plucking of the hairs. My legs were quite itchy because of the red bumps. My legs did not feel, "Silky Smooth" when I had finished, but I decided that there must have been a few hairs on my legs that were too short to be caught by the epilating heads yet... so I... Advantages: Efficient and quick, useful light.
Disadvantages: Quite noisy

...Although very unsure about using an epilator,I finally bit the bullet and bought this one 2 months ago. The first time I switched it on I was shocked at how loud it was and how scary the tweezers looked, but soon got into the swing of it. The small light on the front of it really helps to show up little hairs youve missed and the choice between a beginners head and a more advanced head really allows you to break yourself into the experience gently. The arrow head attachment also allows accuracy in a smaller area. Ever since though Ive had great results with it, much better than anything that I was getting from razors or waxing! Its not cheap but I would say its well worth the money. The little bag it all comes in and the inclusion of the ice pack aswell is very useful.... Read review

Advantages: Left my legs hair free and less pain than waxing.

...Hair free and not as painfull as led to believe. After all these years I invested in an epilator. I always thought it would hurt as everyone I knew had said it was. When I opened my product it looked scarey. I plugged it into the mains, it has a long wire which made it easier. I was sweating with fear at the noise before even trying. I thought no pain no gain and used the expert head first as there are two different head one for beginners. It is loud and has a light so you can see your hair. After the initial pain which was not bad the massagers took the pain away. It just felt like a sharp tingle. It can be a little more sharp round the ankle but I got over it. This is better than waxing as that is definitly more painfull and for anyone who wants to make it less scratchy there is an ice pack for the more frightened first time buyers... Read review

...I had never thought of using an epilator (mostly due to hearing how painful it is!!) until I saw it advertised in a magazine so I decided to stop being a wimp and to give it a go! I was slightly put off by the noise and the speed of the rollers spinning however when I plucked up the courage I was very surprised by how little the pain was! This has a cooling pack and the rollers "massage" as you go which help this be less painful than I originally thought. I have used the beginner head and gradually worked my way up to the expert which cuts the time in half due to have double the amount of tweezers which is slightly more painful but quicker! ...it myself a couple of times. I actually think that the hairs on my underarms and my bikini line have grown back less dense than before. However, I have been very disappointed with the results on my legs. My legs are quite hairy and I remove the hairs from the upper and lower parts of my leg...normally I shave them daily which produces a nice smooth effect but is a real pain to have to do all the time. I thought the Braun would mean that I wouldn't have to pay my leg hairs so much attention but it hasn't quite worked out that way. After 2 weeks of epilating every other day, I had the most awful ingrowing hairs on my legs. It didn't seem to affect my underarms or bikini line but my legs were covered in them. One or two got a bit infected and went red and if I ran my hands up my legs, all I could feel were little lumps where the hairs were... Read review

...I had the old Braun silk-epil since about 1999 and when it gave up the ghost I started shaving again. After a couple of months I noticed that I was hairier than usual and got really annoyed at having to shave every couple of days so decided to invest in another of Braun's epilators. I must admit that this particular model comes with lots of accessories (shaving head, small/starter epilator head, intermediate epilator head with massager, advanced epilator head & ice pack with glove) which I find excessive but if you are new to epilating I can see the advantage in being able to get used to using one by building up in stages. ...This is one epilator worth getting!! Below I've broken down the features of this excellent epilator and there use/ my results from using it. 1. ...I had been undecided for some time about whether or not to buy this product. Eventually, having read other reviews I decided to get it. There was an offer on on Amazon at the time and as I also had some vouchers it ended up costing £35 instead of £64 as is the price in most shops. With hindsight I'm glad I didn't pay the full price. I'd picked up on the idea that epilating was going to be painful, and so when I first did it I made sure I'd had a glass of wine first in the hope that this would take away some of the pain! It was painful. The set comes with starter head and then standard. Having tried the starter head I soon decided to just use the standard.
