...When I found out my Nan had breast cancer 5 years ago I couldn't believe it but after long thoughts I began to remember that lots of people get it and that she could be all right as apparently they found the lump quite early. Going in and out of hospital months after months was horrible and worse for my Nan as she kept on getting worse. I always believed that one day she would get over her illness and get better enough to go home. Being only 13 at the time I didn't really realise that my Nan was seriously ill and that she may not get though it. My mum and dad realised that I didn't understand and although they tried to tell me I didn't realise what was really happening so I carried on as normal. Going into the hospital not knowing it would be the last time I would see my Nan, I had a lovely conversation on my own with my Nan...

Breast Cancer Campaign Filfofax - lotta cost for very little!

Advantages: Very cute looking and handy

...The Breast Cancer Campaign Filofax is quite snazzy looking: it has a smooth leather cover and it's dinky compared to the retro 80's style filofaxes. The hot fuscia colour appealed to me instantly; I'm a girlie girl. However, for the cost of £22, going up to £36.22 from WH Smith, it certainly does not warrant the cost. Firstly, although photos of the product show a pen, this is sold seperately at a further cost of around £20. Inside the Filofax, there is room for your credit cards, a plastic pocket at the back of the diary and also a mesh pocket. Quite handy for all those bits of paper people like myself accumulate on a daily basis. There's the usual ringbinder with pages for personal details, a ruler/page keeper and pages for address and notes. However, with this rather expensive Filofax, I only received nine address pages...

...TBCF stands for THE BREAST CANCER FUND (founded in 1992), which is an American organisation, but more about them later. There are an estimated 1.2 million diagnoses and 500,000 deaths from Breast Cancer a year occur worldwide. Heredity accounts for less than 10% of this!! ALL WOMEN ARE AT RISK!! Yes, that does mean you!! Young, old whatever. I found a lump at the age of 20, and luckily for me it was benign. (although I am in the process of having another checked out!!) All women need to be aware of the risks, but you can improve your own odds!! Do self exams monthly, checking for lumps or irregularities. Early detection increases your chances of survival/recovery. The messages I hope I?ve conveyed are these: 1) Even if you are feeling fit and healthy, it is worthwhile to carry out the recommended regular self-examination of your breasts. 2) If you find a lump then you should have no hesitation in going straight to your G.P. There are some wonderful people in the Medical Profession who know what to do. 3) There is so much publicity about Breast Cancer that we all tend to assume that?s what it means, but it does not. There are other conditions, less serious than cancer, that have similar symptoms and are easily treatable. Some lumps are cysts. As you can imagine, this really set the mind thinking as to what this could be, as I was now in the mindset that this was a bit more serious than what had been said previously. At 3.45pm the Doctor returned and advised me that she had a few more questions that she wanted to ask me. We went off to a side room. When we got in the room she laid it out straight to me. My Father has double lung cancer which had already spread to the brain with another two tumours clearly visible in the scans that had been performed.
