...Brentwood is a large sprawling town on the edge of what is known as "Greater London". Brentwood is a very deceptive town, in respect of size. On first arrival it's easy to believe that it's a small area, but it's an enormous location split up into different districts Ingatestone, Shenfield, North Wield, South Wield, Hutton, Ingrave, Herongate and Little Warley. A very green area with plenty of woodland Brentwood is just a miniscule 20 minutes away from central London by rail. My previous two location reports have been quite thorough in respect guiding your way through them. Brentwood is far too large so I have made this a much more simplistic read. SHOPPING Brentwood's shopping area consists mainly of one long street not surprisingly called "The High Street" this is just over a third of a mile in length and features...

Travelodge Brentwood, hotel for bugs

Advantages: Provided a place to sleep for the weekend
Disadvantages: Unclean and full of bugs

...The Travelodge in Brentwood is actually situated about 5 miles outside of Brentwood in east Horndon. It is located just off the A127 next to a Little Chef and a privately owned pub. It in only a small hotel and there are two different types of room available to book ? double rooms or family rooms. We were going to Brentwood for a long weekend and wanted somewhere cheap to stay for four nights. This was the cheapest option and it wasn?t until we got there did we realise why. All the other hotels available on the search were closer to town and therefore more expensive. However, the booking was made online and payment was taken straight away. Room prices vary from season to season, from night to night. REALITY CHECK! Now I know I have seen critical however it?s worth pointing out the following, I paid £140 for a night in a room right in the heart of Bournemouth, on a Saturday night. My £140 included breakfast, although I could have had room only for £120. I should have been in a standard room but I suspect that low turn out or overbooking in the standard room type option may have got me upgraded to an executive. ...I'm a regular visitor to the Post Office, especially since I joined BookMooch. So I was pretty annoyed when I found out that the branch nearest to where I work (which is the main Carlisle Post Office) is closing and relocating to WHSmiths in town. I don't really understand this move since the Post Office is ALWAYS jam packed, as is WHSmiths. The same has happened where my parents live in Brentwood, and I hear that it has been a disaster as elderly people and those with buggies can't access it as it is upstairs and the lift is permanently broken. Buying the DVD Anyway, Post Office rant aside, I was browsing the DVDs which they are selling off for £1.25 (I bought quite a few classics) and came across "Great Expectations". However, having watched this film last night I suddenly have the urge to write, as this film brings back memories for me. Return to 1985 It's 1985 and my friend C and myself are just 4 years old. We're at Brentwood cinema with his mum E. The cinema seems HUGE - in fact it was pretty small (you probably won't be interested to know that Brentwood cinema was closed permanently in the year 2000 due to asbestos). I'm sat on the left, with C on my right, and E on his right. The wheelie men are on the huge screen - they are VERY scary. C has tears streaming down his face, he's close to hysterical. I turn to face him, because he's crying and because I'm also scared I'm crying too. His poor mum doesn't know what to do...
