That's Amore!

Advantages: Mmmmmm food!
Disadvantages: There's no fat free chocolate cake?!?!?

...You know when you've reached a certain age when you find yourself going for a nice meal for a friend?s birthday. Yes, I now have to admit that the years which were dominated by drinking and clubbing have gone, and a nice meal, a few bottles of vino and a chat with close friends has replaced it. So, Good Friday just gone, bright sunshine and blue skies, daffodils lining the roads and birds singing in the trees. Spring has finally arrived. I get my glad rags on and skip along to my friend?s house and we drive out to meet the others. The venue for the night is to be Brentwood in Essex, and the restaurant - Prezzo. Location Brentwood in Essex, is easily accessed from junction 28 off the M25, the A12, or the A127 by car, or by frequent local bus services from most areas of Essex. It is also accessible by train, which runs from...

Essex!

Advantages: Lots to do, good shopping, a beach
Disadvantages: Some places are real dumps

...I live in Essex/East London in an area called Dagenham. I live in one of the "dumps" as mentioned in the disadvantages but I rreally think Essex is a nice place to live! Next year we are planning to move out into Pitsea, Basildon so were further into the nicer bits of Essex. First of all Essex has a couple of good shopping centres. Lakeside is great for real shopaholics as it's open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday is 10 - 10pm and Saturday it's open till 8 and Sunday till 5. It has just about everything there. Tons of music shops, lots of clothing, and my personal favourite, Krispy Kreme! Lol. :P Basildon also has a decant shopping centre and I personally enjoy going to Southend-On-Sea's high street shopping during the summer. As you go further out into East London you also have Romford's shopping mall which is a good one too. Plenty...

Who Knew Heaven Was So Close To London?

Advantages: Fantastic safe town, with a abundance of countryside
Disadvantages: Fashion affected residents

...they will get close to you and won't seem bothered by you. If you have food they may well sit by you like a loyal dog. Although the fox's natural instinct is to kill, the locals living around the park have fed the foxes for decades, and as a result they have become pretty tame. There is some pretty "Blair Witch" style scenery in the woods, but fear not your never alone there, you can always see someone in their with you. Thorndon Country Park By far my favourite of all the parks of Brentwood, you can reach Thorndon by simply following my directions for Shenfield Common, and through Hartwood. Once you reach as far as you can go through Hartwood you meet a road, all you need to do to get into Thorndon is cross the road. Thorndon is by far the biggest area of greenery in Brentwood, it is managed by Essex council, and features lakes...

The Early Essex Days

Advantages: Includes his top selling hits.
Disadvantages: They are the only good ones.

...David Essex, born David Cook, in 1947, has enjoyed a varied career over the last 35 years. He has acted both on stage and in films and television and has many a successful song in the charts. Over the years he has twenty three hits to get into the top 30. He currently has a song in the charts, though I doubt it will make it far due to lack of air play. This song came about as part of a Channel 4 documentary, which attempted to bring back the Christmas number One. He has quite a following, of all ages, and still continues to tour. These days he only sells his records via his website and at the concerts, but previous releases can be found in good music shops. One of these is the CD, The Best of David Essex. It has been in my possession for many years. How it came to be I cannot say. My mum is a huge fan, to say the least...

Essex Boys - I was there

Advantages: Great film based around true events
Disadvantages: Not overly memorable

...This film is based around the true story of three men murdered in a Range Rover at Rettendon, Essex, in December 1995. As a retired member of the investigating team I awaited this film's release with anticipation, keen to see how the incidents and events of that fateful night had been portrayed. I was a little dissappointed following all the hype the pre-release got but to be fair the film was only loosley based around these events. The portrayal of the gangster underworld, club and drug culture of East London and Essex were I suppose reasonably accurate. Certainly the writers and producers had researched things and Sean Bean did give a reasonably good performance. Not the most memorable film but one which holds a particular significance to me....

Essex boys and Essex girls get it every day...

Advantages: lively, funny presenters with a good range of music and wit!
Disadvantages: only in Essex or on the net via website

...Living in Essex may not be everyone's cup of tea but then they ain't really been to the place 'ave they? One of England's largest counties and such a diversity... Travelling from the downtown Dagenham Ford works through Basildon (blonds abound) the chocolate box picturesque villages of North Essex with thatched cottages - the only thing we haven't got here is hills! But we do have ESSEX FM!!!! Cracking fun to wake up to on a weekday morning- Martin and Sue perform a love-hate relationship throughout their 4 hour show and always have a dig at something or someone topical. It certainly brightens the journey to work sitting in traffic jams on the A12! Martin is such a geek when it comes to motorbikes but seems to know little about anything esle -except how to wind up the ladies(?) of essex with his outrageously chauvinistic attitudes...

Essex University - centre of excellence

Advantages: Academically excellent
Disadvantages: Concrete buildings

...The University of Essex is fairly small with around 7000 students. About 5000 of these are undergraduates and the remaining 2000 are postgraduates. The university is set in Wivenhoe Park, a beautiful 200 acre country park situated on the outskirts of Colchester. The university was built in the 1960s at roughly the same time as Warwick, York and the UEA. Its concrete buildings are not particularly attractive aesthetically, but the construction of more modern buildings in recent years has given the campus a more contemporary feel. The most recent of these is a new centre homing the departments of history, psychology and accounting. Academically the university is very strong, although predominantly in the Social Sciences. Even though there are only 17 departments, the majority of these have done very well in university league...

Essex FM review.

Advantages: Excellent Local Reception.
Disadvantages: Playlist, Local Adverts.

...Essex FM is not the sort of station I would normally listen to. Sadly I have become familiar with the station over the last year and familiarity breeds contempt. This is the station that they play at my work and the radio is locked in a cupboard, so I cannot get to it! I'll get the good point out of the way first. If your in Essex then you will have no problem listening to the show. Reception is very good, just what you'd expect from a local radio station. Now the bad! First and foremost, the playlist stinks. It isn't unknown to hear the same song twice within half an hour, usually due to one DJ handing over to another. The station has such a small playlist that repeats are inevitable. Some people seem to like this, some people also like to stick vegetables up their bottom. If they kept repeating songs I actually liked then...

Essex uni

Advantages: near london, inexpensive, good nightlife, community feeling
Disadvantages: so much concrete

...Location = The university is in Colchester in Essex not so far from the sea and an hours drive from London. Colchester is said to be the oldest recorded town in the UK and this shows. It has a beautiful castle with a museum. Inside are Roman remains as well as interestings from more recent times. Colchester The shopping area is on mostly narrow windy streets and a lot of it is no go for cars. I do not think it is the easiest of places to go shopping as there is so much time spent walking about through parts of the town alrready explored. I personally perfer a trip to Ipswich where the shops are down 2 roads and in shopping centres. Its a bit like Chelmsford in that respect. There are clubs and bars for students to go to if they wish to do things off campus. I've personally not experienced any of the clubs so I...

Underperformance of Essex bowlers

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...The performance of the Essex bowlers this season has worried me greatly. In Mark Illot we have a bowler who can swing the ball both ways and causes serious problems for batsmen of county level. However, he spends the whole time injured. Ashley 'Wallace' Cowan also causes concern since, after bursting on to the England scene a couple of years ago he's done nothing. Ricky Anderson shows promise, but is again inconsistent, and although Ronnie Irani regularly produces the goods, it is concerning that they have not gelled, especially considering Peter Such's age, and the fact he cannot go on for much longer. I feel much of our success next season will rest on the shoulders of Ronnie Irani and Stuart Law....
