Breville Illuminator jug kettle

Advantages: fast-boiling, easy to see water-level, pleasant blue glow when switched on
Disadvantages: Only lasted 11 months, then light stopped working! Measurements in cups not litres.

...I purchased this jug kettle early in 2008, and at first was very pleased with it. I'd previously listed all the features I wanted in a jug kettle, and this ticked all my boxes. It's cordless, fast-boiling, easy to see water-level, the lid opens easily for cleaning. It has a 360 degree base for left-handed or right-handed use, concealed element inside making it easier to clean, and automatic cut-off. I hadn't wanted to spend over £20, and this was £16.99 in Robert Dyas. I'd wanted a white jug, which this is, and the gentle blue light which glows from the window while it's switched on, I find very pleasing. It's 1.7 litre capacity, and the measures on the window indicate cups, the minimum being 2 cups, and the max is 8. I have one small niggle, and that is that I would have preferred the measurements to be in litres, but...

...have bought various kettles, toasters and irons, and I have found that the more expensive they are, it does not necessarily mean they are better than the cheaper brands. In fact, I can honestly say it has been the cheaper purchases of these items that have lasted the longest! I thought that £35 for the kettle and toaster seemed quite a good price. I did need a toaster and thought it would be nice to have matching items. I purchased them from Littlewoods . The kettle is jug style and silver in colour, with the Breville logo near the bottom, and the words 'Style 2'. Its maximum capacity is 1.6 litres. Other features are :- 1. Russell Hobbs Classic Montana Glow Jug Kettle

Advantages: Stylish, Quiet, 3 Stage Illumination, Simmer Function, Tidy

...I have recently bought this kettle to replace my old noisy Russell Hobbs, and I must say it is an absolute delight! It is so quiet it's unbelieveable, the only noise it makes it a little bubble when it reaches boiling point. This kettle is also very stylish, from it's highly polished stainless steel exterior to the cool 3 stage illumination lights in the dual water windows. The kettle glows blue when on standby, lilac when boiling and red when using the simmer function. It makes a fantastic addition to the modern kitchen and a great talking point with friends. The simmer function is great too, I found it useful when friends rang to say they were on their way to visit, we boiled the kettle and used the simmer function so that it was ready to go as soon as our guests arrived. This is also good when preparing big family breakfasts...

...I have only had this kettle for about a month but so far I am very pleased with it. I choose it for its curvy design and colour scheme. The silver plastic is much easier to wipe clean than a stainless steel one. I particularly like the 'Keep Warm' function as with baby twins I often found the kettle needed reboiling when I actually got round to using the water. It has a blue glow when on standby and a red glow when boiling so you can easily see if it has finished boiling. The main body of it is transparent, so you can see the water level from any angle, much less chance of dry boiling it and a 360 degree base. Both these features are handy for us awkward left handers. Advantages: cordless kettle on short corded base, automatic cutout when empty, will not switch on if not properly seated on base
Disadvantages: still have to descale though VERY infrequently

That is easy to recall as its only about a month older than our baby LOL Haden make a range of budget kitchen gadget type appliances and seem to be able to keep in business, so obviously they are not too dodgy even though not the most expensive on the market!
