...Brighouse is a small Yorkshire town in the shadow of the great towns of Huddersfield and Halifax. Its local paper is The Brighouse Echo and it is published every Friday. As it covers a small area it does tend to have difficulty in finding something to write about. Consequently the stories tend to be quite trivial or quite repetitive. Like many local papers the majority of stories tend to be about crime. I also wonder if this is because local papers tend to be read by older people. The Echo does also have stories about local interest items like water quality and local planning applications. Inside there is a lively column about local pubs which gives some background to the drinking holes of the area. The Echo is all very local to the point of being parochial. ECHO, ECHo, ECho, Echo, echooooo (Edited)

Disadvantages: unless your from Brighouse do you really care? The size (broadsheet!)

...The Brighouse Echo is a weekly newspaper giving all the news from the Brighouse area, well to be honest there is more news from Halifax and Huddersfield in it and even more national news mainly because very little newsworthy things happen in Brighouse! The paper costs 40p (having just risen last week from 38p). Each week there is a property guide supplement in it which to be honest is usually thicker than the actual paper. It averages about 20 pages of which about half are classifieds and Births, Death and Marriage announcements. There is occasionaly a colour photo on the front page if something of great interest has happened but the rest of the photos throughout are usually in black and white. The news is mainly a roundup of the weekly news that has already appeared in the Halifax Evening Courier which is a daily local. There is...

Certainly not the weakest link in this chain

Advantages: Excellent quality in a good position
Disadvantages: Rooms overlooking the rear courtyard can be noisy at weekends

...Hotel chains can be very faceless and lacking in interest. Having spent six years living out of hotels, I?ve become only too familiar with the charms of the Forte Posthouse chain (now part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group and rebranded as Holiday Inns). Why then am I writing about this particular hotel? Where is it? ~~~~~~~~~ The Leeds/Brighouse Holiday Inn is immediately adjacent to the M62 at junction 25. This is about 10 miles from Leeds but the position close to the motorway means that, for business travellers, it is worth considering for a range from Manchester, which is only an hour to the west, to York and beyond. Review of Brighouse Posthouse (Leeds)

1 of the best Holiday inn hotels

Advantages: I work there and right next to the motorway
Disadvantages: No lift to second floor

...I work for this hotel but I've also stayed here on my wedding night so you might think I'm being over generous with the scoring but I've stayed in alot of Holiday inn hotels and I can tell you this is the best so far. If you need a hotel in a good location with easy access to the motorway then this is the hotel for you. Just off the M62, junction 25 going towards Brighouse. It sits on a hill with gorgeous surroundings, its a great location for weddings. It was built in 1989. The car park is free for Hotel residents and guests using other facilities like the spirit club, bar area or restaurant. The car park has CCTV and can hold up to 220 cars on three levels and on the top level it has dedicated easy access car parking for blue badge holders only. Soon to be self service: thankfully

Advantages: They are changing the system, it was cheap.
Disadvantages: Wait longer than Alton Towers, for food worse than school dinners

...This review is of Brighouse (nr Huddersfield/Bradford) Tesco, late morning for breakfast. Although from my experience I will not be tempted to try them again. We had stayed at a local hotel in Brighouse, and in an effort to get a cheaper breakfast to the one in the hotel, we thought we'd try Tesco's cafe. Very bad idea. When we arrived there was a queue of around 10 people before you get to the serving counter, and then perhaps 3 or 4, from there to the till. You really wouldn't have thought it would take 25 minutes to get served would you? And that isn't an exaggeration, since when you are waiting in a queue, looking at your watch and complaining is a common pass-time. On arriving at the servery, the food looked less than appetising. What did become apparent was the many reasons for the slow service. 1) Bad staff...

Review of Hobson's Choice - Harold Brighouse

There is alot of Good in this Album

Advantages: The groups debut album and i think there best
Disadvantages: There music has changed from this recently

...This was Embraces debut album, and it was this album and the tracks on it that really propelled this group from Brighouse in West Yorkshire onto the world of Brit Pop. The group consists of 5 members ( although the line -up has changed over the years) and the linch pin for their creativity is the McNamara brothers. They were ably assisted in producing the album with Martin Glover who among other groups of the time, worked very closely with groups such as The verve and the Australian group Crowded House ( who i must admit am a great fan of them as well!). The Album is very influenced by the sound of Crowded House in the very good harmonies produced with the lead singer being Danny McNamara,this moved them on from being an Indie band to one who really brought the slow ballady numbers back to the fore. Another fantastic offering from a fantastic band

Advantages: Anthemic, uplifting tracks, ballads to take your breath away
Disadvantages: A couple of songs tend to drag, not to everyone's taste

...After the amazing return to form that was Out Of Nothing, the fifth album from the Brighouse boys doesn't disappoint with it's indie anthems, and a more diverse range of styles. No Use Crying is the perfect opener with it's catchy riffs and singalong chorus - football fans may recognise it from the highlights of Football Focus, used as background music just as the last album's opener, Ashes, was. The pace then slows dramatically with Nature's Law, the band's first release from this album. Lyrics such as "You should never fight your feelings, when your very bones believe them" and a haunting piano melody make this an emotive and moving 21st century ballad. All You Good Good People Listen To Me

Advantages: A fanatstic debut album, possible the best the band have made to date
Disadvantages: They have moved away from the ideals they set on this album

...While this years World Cup seen Embrace release a very mellow football track that failed to capture the imagination it also coincided with their 5th studio album. Over the years the band seem to have transformed from a up-tempo Indie band into a band who specialise in ballad's and slower numbers. It was on this, 1998's The Good Will Out, that Embrace really made a name for themselves. At the time they were being touted as Noel Gallagher's favourite band and a decent debut album would really set them up. The 5 piece from Brighouse in West Yorkshire seemed to appear from nowhere and take the charts by storm. The debut was released by the Geffen record label and as a result it seemed to have a much faster pace than the following efforts. Review of Good Will Out, The - Embrace

Halifax- A great place to live but some problems.

Advantages: A lovely friendly community driven place to live.
Disadvantages: Some problems with youths.

...undercut First and have their radios blaring! The train station is an awful place. The orginal is a beautfuil 19th Centrury building which is now park of the Eurkea kids museum. The new one looks okay as you see the glass ticket office. You then go down some horrible steps to find a glass waiting room with doors that won't close and filled with rubbish. The shop gets broken into once a week. The toilets you have to go back up the steps to get a key and then back down to use and then back up to return the key. The rest of the two platforms are awful. The station info screens don't work. The whole of the station roof seems to be falling down. Avoid. get the bus to huddersfield or Brighouse and get the train from there. Overall its a lovely place to live. The usual anti-social problems and underinvestment but nice for a quiet life. I love...
