HARDLY HARVEY'S BRISTOL CREAM....

Advantages: Reasonable range of destinations, relatively convenient for me
Disadvantages: Expensive parking, not the easiest place to get to, Always Cold

...And not strictly in Bristol either??. History indicated that, despite being my second closest International airport, I was destined never to fly from Bristol. The first time we booked to fly from there was to Fuerteventura a couple of years ago, then Thomsons, in true style decided to let us know about major building works at our apartments a mere 6 days before we were due to travel, the result? We ended up having a week in Cyprus with JMC from Cardiff instead. The second time, we had booked a half term trip to Tunisia complete with whole family, and I mean whole; including ex-wife, new partner, her in laws, her son, my stepson, martin, me and Tasha ? then my other half was hit with an operation and a big ?C? diagnosis less than 4 weeks before travelling, yet another cancellation!!. 18 months on, new project, new regime...

Review of Bristol Airport (BRS)

Airport parking at Bristol airport.

Advantages: I got a refund.
Disadvantages: Bad signposts

...I recently used bristol Airport for the first time recently, to meet my Daughter from her holiday flight. I followed a sign which stated " Short term parking (first 20 minutes free)" and on entering the slip road to this part of the car park, I was than faced with 2 gate options. On the notice board to the one gate were temporary notices with charges of £10.50 aand £12.50 displayed, but on the other gate there was nothing displayed, so as I only had about an hour to wait, and not wishing to pay too much, I entered the unmarked gate (as there was no other option, and the road was too narrow to turn around). I collected my daughter, and went to the pay machine inside the airport building to pay, and the machine demanded £10.50 for the hour and fourteen minutes I was parked, I almost fainted when I saw this, as the charge for the time I...

Lulsgate Bottom is not Bristol

Advantages: Convenient, good services, friendly
Disadvantages: Not all that close to Bristol, poor road infrastructure to get to airport.

...Up until recently Bristol Airport was not much more than a potting shed in the middle of a field, originally opened in 1929 by a group of flying enthusiasts. A major makeover, some aggressive marketing and opening of new destinations and all that has changed. So lets look at the history. >History The first Bristol airport was inaugurated as only the 3rd civil airport in the UK in 1930 by HRH Prince George. In 1930 925 people used the airport. Requisitioned for the war it wasn?t until 1956 that a permanent location for the airport was purchased for £55,000 at Lulsgate Bottom, its current home. The new home was officially opened by the Duchess of Kent in 1957 and it saw 33,000 passengers. In July 1988 HRH Princess Royal opened a newly refurbished and extended concourse which saw 104,000 passengers that year. In March...

Review of Bristol Airport (BRS)

An airport that is sure to take off...

Advantages: clean, uncluttered, facilities
Disadvantages: selection of destinations is a bit limited at the moment

...I'm not an airport lover. In fact, I hate airports... well, that was until last week. Most people would agree with me when I say how airports seem to be designed to be ugly and claustrophobic. They are never clean, never friendly and are always packed with angry commuters gathering around tiny monitors to see when their delayed flight might actually take off. Bristol airport isn't a typical airport. A new terminal building was constructed last year to cater for an increase in demand for internal and European flights from the South-West. Last Sunday was my first trip from the new terminal and - WOW. It's plush, its high-tech, its got huge open spaces, its not crowded, yet its busy, and it just looks outstanding. The design is fantastic. My flight was delayed for an hour, but I didn't mind a bit. There is plenty to do in...

Alicante Airport

Advantages: Good location, decent amenities
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...I use Alicante airport for my annual break in Spain and find it is convenient and fairly easy to use. It is situated just outside Alicante on the Costa Blanca, around 46.5km from Benidorm. It is within driving distance of Valencia, around two hours and 179km. Arrivals You would probably fly to Alicante if you were staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, Calpe, Moraira or Teulada. It is popular with budget airlines such as Easyjet and Bmibaby and there are flights from many regional airports in the UK such as East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Stansted to name a few. There are around ten car hire companies who operate out of the airport including the big names like Avis, Europcar and Hertz, these desks are located in the arrivals hall and can get busy at peak times. There are also local car hire companies who...

Contemporary Arts in Bristol

Advantages: Good variety of events, many of which are free
Disadvantages: Hard to say

...My second visit to Bristol was on a decidedly damp Saturday afternoon, so we were looking for places to spend some time inside. Having walked down the steep slope of Park Street and not being in any hurry to go back up, I suggested that the Arnolfini arts centre might not be too much further to walk. Situated on Bristol's Harbourside, it is easily reached by walking along the quayside from The Centre. From the south you can get there by crossing the swing bridge on Prince Street. Admission is free, so it is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the arts. The Arnolfini has no permanent collection of artworks, so exhibitions change from time to time. There is currently (August 2008) a display described as an 'interactive shopping experience' entitled 'Far West'. Although not exactly my cup of tea, there was a degree...

BRISTOLS AHOY

Advantages: Big enough to be good
Disadvantages: Small enough to be friendly

...Bristol, a council estate (Knowle West) so affected by drugs and crime it featured in the News of the World, I think the 9yr old heroin addict started that off! But as these problems are being dealt with I'm going to look at the positive stuff!! Bristol is accessible by every mode of transport, bus, coach, train and even the airport. That's not to say the city transport is any good, it was recently voted the worst in the country (I've written an op on this by the way! So be prepared to wait if you want to explore it by bus, there is plenty of parking around though, especially in the centre. So lets take what the average person would come to Bristol for: The Shopper: Plenty of that, every Christmas the town is invaded by hordes of Welsh shoppers looking for a bargain. We have 2 main shopping areas, Broadmead in the centre...

Advantages: Convinient and compact
Disadvantages: Can get busy, parking charges

...Bristol Airport was originally opened in 1930 in what is now known as the old terminal. Due to rising passenger numbers and the state of the old terminal, a new terminal was opened in 2000, which was designed to carry 3.5 million passengers a year. Bristol International airport is rapidly becoming the largest airport in the South West with 4.5 million passengers travelling through it in 2004. As I only live 15 minutes from the airport I use it most times I fly and so I thought I would share my experiences ***Getting There*** Bristol Airport is not actually located in Bristol but 8 miles outside in North Somerset. It is well signposted from both the M5 and M4 and is situated on the A38 in Lulsgate. If you are not travelling by car you can use the Bristol International Flyer, which is a direct coach service from Bristol bus...

chicago airport

Advantages: Gets me from A to b efficiently
Disadvantages: It's an airport!

...Chicago airport. On a recent visit to san Diego, we had to have a stop in Chicago airport for a couple of hours...most of my travelling seems to be spent in airports! It was the busiest airport in the United States until Atlanta became the busiest and it was apparently voted best airport in North America in 2000...that's 8 years ago so i don't know which airport has been winning since then. The airport is 20 miles from downtown Chicago but since we weren't actaully going to Chicago we didn't actally leave the airport so I can't comment on the transport links. **The Terminals** Of course when stuck in an airport these are the places you see most often. There are 4 terminals and strangely enough these are Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Terminal 5 which is the International Terminal...whatever happened to number 4? All of the terminals are...

Quality Hotel at Bristol

Advantages: Well located and pretty cost effective
Disadvantages: Busy in the Summer

...has 1,708 hotels and 145,872 rooms. EXPRESS by HOLIDAY INN (commonly called Holiday Inn Express) at BRISTOL NORTH The full address is: Express By Holiday Inn BRISTOL-NORTH BRISTOL PARKWAY BUSINESS PARK BRISTOL, BS34 8SJ The Express by Holiday Inn at Bristol North is situated close to the M4, M5 & M32 motorways and it provides the ideal base to visit Bristol & the West Country.
