...I have always had a problem drinking water straight out of the tap?. I know it's all healthy and has passed certain tests and standards but still?. When I think about all the pipes and bits it had to travel though before getting into my glass it gives me a little shiver. I may be fussy but I can not help it!! I bought a Brita water filter about 12 months ago and have not looked back. I purchased the 2.4 litre jug which is great for keeping in the fridge chilled and the filters can be replaced. The filters do not actually change the taste of the water but I do believe it makes the water cleaner and also healthier. To some extent it is also in the mind set of the drinker. Brita Elemaris water filter jug

Advantages: The water tastes better than previous filters, it's much easier to fill and use.
Disadvantages: Still takes quite a bit of cleaning but again, a step up from the original jugs

...Having owned and used a Brita water filter on a regular basis for several years, I couldn't resist purchasing the Elemaris when I saw it on offer at a bargain price on the shelves of our local Asda. My original filter jug was full of water, so the first thing I did on unpacking the Elemaris was to pour a glassful from each jug to compare them. I was pleased to observe that the water in the glass poured from the Elemaris appeared cleaner and much clearer than that from my old faithful. On tasting both samples, the one poured from the Elemaris won hands down - it tasted much fresher than the drink from the other jug. Our tapwater has quite a nasty taste when unfiltered but the Elemaris removed this. Brita Water Filter

...We live in a hard water area and before we purchased our Brita Water Filter we were having to de-scale our kettle every 6 weeks, alse we used to get horrible "scum" on the surface of out tea and coffee. Since buying our filter the element in our kettle has remained lyme-scale free and this is after 3 months. We also use the filtered water in our steam iron which has stopped the lymescale building up in there to. It is very simple to use...just fill from the cold tap direct and the water will pass through the filter cartridge into the jug....once this process has taken place the water is ready to be poored into your kettle or iron. We would not be without our filter jug now as out hot drinks taste alot better and i am sure that the lack of lymescale must give the kettle and iron and longer lifespan. Catridges should be...

Tasty water

Advantages: improves the water quality
Disadvantages: expensive and sometimes hard to find

...I live in quite a hard water area and find that the water is only drinkable using the filter. The taste of the water is vastly improved, mainly because the filters take out all or most of the limescale. They last for about a month before needing replacing, and can be a bit of a pain to change, as you need to run water through several times before you can drink the water. Also the filter cartridges are quite expensive, costing around £12 for a box of three filter cartridges. I have found that they aren't always readily available in my area, though they are getting easy to find in places like Tesco and some department stores. Generally, I think that they are worth the money paid just for the nice drinking water....

Review of Brita Maxtra Filter Cartridge

Buying mineral water is a mug's game!

Advantages: Affordable, delicious drinking water with no hardness
Disadvantages: cartridges can be a little expensive

.... Costs: My Brita came from Argos and set me back a meagre 17.99 including one filter cartridge. I can't see how it could possibly break or die (unless I do something REALLY stupid with it) so I imagine that I can expect many years of service from that initial investment. Argos are currently selling replacement cartridges for my model for 19.99 per pack of six, meaning that Brita filtered water costs just under four pence per litre under normal usage. Environment: I like to do my bit to reduce climate change; I wouldn't refer to myself as an eco-warrior, but I do believe that we should all do whatever we can to give mother nature a helping hand.   Water Way to Drink

.... As with all food products treat it with respect, do not allow the Brita filter to stand in direct sunlight, wash everything at least every time the cartridge is changed and if the water is not consumed within two days then tip it away and add new water. In our house it?s not lasting 2 hours let alone two days. The capacity is 1.6 litre of filtered water and 2.6 litre total capacity with the funnel full. I should add that it is recommended that it is only used with tap water or water that is certified fit to drink.
