The Fabulous Little Britain
Advantages: Hilarious
Disadvantages: None
...It is hard to believe that it was as long ago as February 2003 that the digital/freeview channel BBC3 first ran a pilot episode of a new comedy called Little Britain.
The response was fantastic and the creator's Matt Lucas and David Walliams were commissioned to write a full series of eight episodes, which were first broadcast on BBC3 in the September of the same year. Following on from this success it was then re-run on BBC2.
What is it all about?
The Little Britain series is basically a collection of short sketches, which feature the same characters from one week to the next. Each character creation is very unique and you soon get to know their peculiarities and catchphrases. It is these individual characters which make the programme what it is, as it is these people that you soon grow to love.
Little Britain works as...

Has Britain Got Talent?
Advantages: Easy to watch, very funny auditions at times, can be entertaining
Disadvantages: Piers Morgan and the audiences
...Britain's Got Talent is yet another show which auditions ordinary folk in search of finding a new, undiscovered talent. It runs each year and the 2009 competition is now underway. The winner gets to perform in front of Her Majesty, or one or two of The Queen's family members, at the year's Royal Variety Show. There is undoubtedly more to the winner's prize but this seems to be most contestants ultimate goal.
BGT is not a show I watched at one time but somehow or other it has wormed its way into my Saturday night viewing. The judging panel is made up of:-
Amanda Holden.
Piers Morgan.
Simon Cowell.
Backstage Ant and Dec provide moral support for the contestants and added humour.
The American version of BGT has Jerry Springer as host with Piers Morgan, David Hasselhof and Sharon Osbourne as the judging panel.
Each panel judge...

Talking for Britain
Advantages: A good book
Disadvantages: But not a great book
...Talking for Britain, A journey Through the Nation's Dialects is by Simon Elmes. It is published by Penguin at £14.99 in hardback. ISBN (None shown on the copy I have)
The book is written around the massive Voices Survey conducted by the BBC, which was turned into a major radio series, Word 4 Word.
The book is broken down into regions, and counties: Cornwall, West of England, London and the South-East, Wales, The Midlands, East Anglia, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Liverpool (HUH??) Northumbria, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The reason that Elmes decided to lump Liverpool and Cumbria together are described as Elmes as "a bit of a cheat" and the excuse he gives (including that both areas have had their way of speech affected by outside influences) are, to my mind, somewhat vapid. Nor am I convinced by his decision to count...

Has Britain Got Talent ?
Advantages: Good Entertainment , funny , Good Acts , each act is different!
Disadvantages: NONE!
...Britain's Got Talent is... well it does what it says on the tin basically. The aim of the show is to find talent in Britain. By talent , it can be anything , singing , dancing ,juggling , telling jokes , football tricks , anything really. The winner will then go on to perform in front of the Royal Family on the Royal Variety Performance and also be the proud owner of £100,000. The show is broadcast on ITV1 and ITV2 and is currently being broadcast here in Britain on Saturday evenings at approximately 8.00pm , however repeats of the show are available to watch throughout the week on ITV2 (Sky channel 118) at various times. There is also an "extended" part to the show , called "Britain's Got Extra Talent" which is shown on ITV2 and presented by Stephen Mulhurn. The running time of each show is 60 minutes.
The show is currently on it...

Britain Has Got Talent
Advantages: Funny, you see some really talented people and Ant and Dec!
Disadvantages: Horrible audiences and people perfoming!
...Britain`s Got Talent is a TV show shown on ITV on Saturday`s and the show was created by Simon Cowell. (In case you did not know he also created the X Factor)
The idea of the show is for normal people to show their talent and impress the judges. The judges are Simon Cowell who is quite harsh and honest, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden who cries often. The winner performs at the Royal variety show in front of the royal family and they get some amount of large money (I think £100,000 but I could be wrong!).
The contestants who enter the show vary completely and most are absolutely rubbish but there is the odd person who is very talented and has an ordinary job. There is no age limit to enter the show and you can enter doing any act.
The show is in its third series this year. The winner of the first was Paul Potts who was...

Britain's Misfits United!
Advantages: Good range of characters, Dares to laugh at Britain and British people, Matt Lucas and David Walliams work well together and have written some great stuff!
Disadvantages: Not going to be to everyone's taste!
...Little Britain is great, it's official... after all, the people at Bafta awarded it Best Comedy Programme this year!
Little Britain is the creation of Matt Lucas (aka George Dawes from Shooting Stars) and David Walliams (seen in Attachments and spoof show Rock Profiles). It's format is along the lines of sketch shows such as The Fast Show, and since first airing on BBC Three it's become a cult programme! In only one series, eight episodes long, and aired on a digital TV channel, it didn't take long to gather plenty of fans and end up being shown on BBC 2. The show started life as a radio programme on Radio 4 (something I hadn't realised until recently).
As the name suggests, the programme is British based. In the words of BBC Three it "delight's in all that is mad, bad, quirky and generally bonkers about the people and places...

The wonderful Little Britain
Advantages: A great laugh, a good depiction of the life of Great British residents, great acting
Disadvantages: There are none as far as I am concerned
...The new series of Little Britain, series two, has just started to be shown on BBC television. It was one of the most eagerly awaited and highly anticipated returns to the screen of a programme for a long while. The last programme to cause such a stir, was the second series of The Office a couple of years ago. It is one of the most talked about shows on the television today and probably the most popular comedy in Britain. It is written and performed by Matt Lucas, formerly George Dawes on Shooting Stars with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, and David Williams a relatively unheard of comedy performer. They present how they view the society of Great Britain and they had a huge element of comedy to it.
I am a huge fan of this programme and I immensely enjoy watching each and every episode. I always make sure that I am in when it is...

Britain's Got Talent? Definitely
Advantages: Good entertaining show to watch if you've got an hour to spare
Disadvantages: Shameless input of manipulative producers
...BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT 2009
(Note before you begin - This is a pretty long review as I wanted to cover all of Britain's Got Talent, so by all means don't read all of this if it doesn't interest you, it's hopefully quite clearly subtitled so just skip to whatever bits interest you, if any)
Intro
Talent in Britain is something that doesn't come around too often, especially if you're following the latest attempts of our various sports teams. But on this show, Britain proves just how talented it really is.
Britain's Got Talent is an immensely popular talent show devised by the person we all love to hate, the sparkly teethed Simon Cowell. The format is simple - contestants that can be anything from 5 year old singers to 80 year old break-dancers put their dignity on the line as they audition to try and impress the three judges: actress...

Little Brained Britain
Advantages: Funny because its real and relatable
Disadvantages: Sometimes annoying, very polically uncorrect
...When I moved to uni almost a year ago, I knew I wasn't going to have a television so my relatives were nice enough to buy me various DVDs to take for watching. Little Britain season one was one such gift. I'd seen a few of the shows on TV and shown a mild interest in it, but I wasn't hooked on it or fussed either way.
The first time I watched the season through I was in hysterics. Each of the characters brings something different and you can follow their situation through the episodes. If you can't follow the many individual characters by watching episode to episode, there is a feature on the DVD that allows you to play all the skits with a particular character. They mostly have their own catchphrase too, which has a strange way of being able to bring strangers together, 'yeah I know', 'yeah but no but yeah but?' and 'eh eh eh...

An Utterly Impartial History of Britain
Advantages: Funny and fairly complete history
Disadvantages: Humour is a bit one paced
...An Utterly Impartial History of Britain
Learning things is fun. Well, that?s what I tell my daughter now that she?s started school anyway. But it is true, increasing the sum of your knowledge is enriching and empowering and for this reason I like to mix up some educational non fiction on my daily commute amongst the normal run of pot boilers and pulp fiction.
Now, as much as I like to learn things I don?t really want to have to think too hard if I can help it so most of these books need to be pitched at the right level. That might mean that they are aimed at a populist audience but as often as not it means they are written with an eye to the humour as much as the subject matter.
So it was that this book caught my eye in Borders when I was spending some book tokens given to me by former colleagues last Christmas. I?m not that...
