Broadband Router - Heaven
Advantages: Feature full ? broadband router, 4 port 10/100 switch, print server
Disadvantages: Technical support seem to read off a script
...Hello! I haven't been on Ciao for quite a while now, but may come back here more often, after my exams anyway.
US. Robotics is a name you 'can' trust. It has a good reputation for building reliable modems and networking equipment. This was one of the main reasons I chose this piece of equipment, as opposed to one from SMC.
What is a Broadband Router?
---------------------------
Well simply put, it routes one internet connection to a network, allowing you to share a single internet connection in a home or office network.
This particular router, model USR018000, is designed specifically for broadband. As cable/DSL broadband internet becomes more common, and since I already have ntl's cable modem service, this is an excellent addition to my home network of two computers and a laptop. ntl only provide one IP address per customer...

Sitecom DC 202 v5 broadband wired router
Advantages: Does what it says on the tin ( once set up ! )
Disadvantages: Pain in the arse to get working.
...'s together on a network is a major pain, but the benefits are great if you manage to do this.
This router, I would recommend, it does it's job fine....once wired up, you can forget all about it.
For future reference, if I have to break the thing down again, I marked the body of the box so I could plug the wires straight in again.
I'm sure that if you bought any other router, wireless or not ?. You'd be faced with the same problems I had.
For me it works, can't ask any more from it than that.
The data transfer rates are 10 mbps .... more than any of the best computers can achieve! ( at the moment !)... the best I can manage on a 2 meg broadband connection is a download rate of 230 kbs , fantastic when compaired to the 3- 4 kbs dial up I used to have ! so this router will not slow down anything at all.
Best of luck???I recon you...

Dynamode BR6004w-G1 Broadband router
Advantages: great signal, cheap, does the job, easy to use, great security, easy to set up
Disadvantages: no real user manual, some functions maybe hard to understand with previous experience.
...This is by far the best router i have owned and used ( compared to an ordinary wired router and a belkin and also a netgear wireless router).
It is very easy to set up this router, infact i did nothing. plugged it in, hooked up all the connections, and it automatically recognised my settings (i have virgin media broadband).
I have had this router for about roughly 6 months now and havnt really experienced any real problems.
one downside to this product is when going into the homepage of the router. At times when such tings are worded its hard to understand what it means until you actually try it out, for example:
\"If checked, the undefined item in MAC Address list is allowed to access Internet;Unchecked means reverse\"
I actually understand what it means but i had to read it more than once.
On the other hand this may...

Wireless-G Broadband router WRT54GC
Advantages: Very Small, wall mountable, good setup wizard
Disadvantages: Some technical jargon in initial setup
...not want to turn this review into a Hi-Fi manual!
The network name can be hidden and you can restrict router access to computers listed in the wireless client list.
The ability to specify either an open system or shared key for authentication.
These are the options I have tweaked and I believe this should prevent basic hacking of my wireless broadband router.
The initial setup was easy once the brain was engaged. Do not do anything other than insert the CD, all the setting up is covered from connecting the power to the ethernet cables. One tip though is to go online via your broadband modem prior to starting the setup. This will ensure that any snags that may arise are due to the subsequent installation.
Anyhow the only problem I had was in terminology, my previous router had said 'cable users click here'. This one offers...

Sweex Keychain
Advantages: Small, light, great fun while it works
Disadvantages: Soon broke down, and customer service is non-existent
...) they told me that they couldn't do anything about it, as it hadn't been bought from them. (So why did Sweex tell me to send it there? - I assumed that this must be their UK main supplier or similar) Giant Gadget wanted me to send them a further £3.50 for post and packing (for a tiny keychain?) before they would return it to me. I asked if I sent them this cash, would they send the keychain directly on to the other suppliers - that was in mid-November and I have had no reply to date (15 January)
Given the cost of the item in the first place, I've decided to give up, and forget all about it - which may, I suspect, be part of their tactics?
We have a Sweex wireless router which - at least to date - works fine. If it ever goes wrong, however, I shall just chuck it in the bin, and buy another make.
Customer service seems to be an unknown...

Ordered AOL broadband and never got the router... so far.
Advantages: no contract
Disadvantages: no service after more than a month I have ordered it
...I ordered the AOL broadband more than a month ago and I haven't got the router yet.
I got a letter from AOL on the 27?april saying that the router will be at my place in three business days. After a month of waiting the router AOL sent had not arrived to my place so I called them on the 17/May to find out what was going on.
They said they sent the router on the 22/April (almost a month before) and they said they would send another one the day after (18/May) which should have been delivered in 3 to 5 working days.
I called them again 2 times between Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 of May and both times they said the router had been sent and to wait. They said the delay was due to bank holiday.
Yesterday 28 of May my girlfriend phoned AOL again and they told her that AOL has never sent the new router and they won't send it until they find...

Wireless-Great Broadband Router
Advantages: Price, signal strength
Disadvantages: small disadvantage in setup
...including software, wires, and cabling. The cables and wires are of good quality and you can be assured that they will not break.
The router has a very good speed and it will rarely lose connection, I can tell you that for 3 weeks i have not lost one connection yet, The product is 100% worth your money, I can guarantee that.
If you are a complete novice then setup may be a bit tricky but it is still doable because of the setup cd. You may have to call your ISP (internet service provider) but that is only to find out a few numbers like your I.P. address (internet protocol). But they should be able to tell you quickly.
As you have probably seen from BT ads, you can buy wireless broadband packages, DO NOT buy these, they are just the same internet connection except they give you a "free" router. The router is not free as the additional...

broadband router
Advantages: Allows wireless sharing of broadband internet.
Disadvantages: Mains adaptor gets hot
...The router enables to you to share a single broadband connection either wireless or via cables.
This review is for the wireless ability. When you unpack the router you get all the cables to connect to ypur modem and pc, the only drawback is that the modem must be ethernet not usb.
You plug one cable from the modem into the back of the router marked internet and plug one cable from one of the networks port marked 1,2,3,4 into the back of the pc.
To use this device as a wireless unit you need a receiver for the other computer which plugs into the back of it via ethernet.
The ability of this device is very good, our router is shut away inside a desk, the other computer is 2 floors away, therefore the signal must travel through the desk, and 2 floors before the other computer recieves the signal.
One point I forgot to mention...

Crappest wireless router, looks blue for a reason
Advantages: When it works it works
Disadvantages: Unreliable, slow, low range, ugly as a killer whale's backside
...!'
And so the rest is history...
Well not really. Because I am one of those twats that purchased a Linksys Wireless-G router.
When I first got it out of it's shiny new box, I thought, "Yes! The high speed wireless solution shall dawn upon my home and I will become... free!"
It was easy to setup, just take it out of the box, out of it's protective cover, plug it into the mains with network cable connecting the broadband modem to it... and presto! Wireless-G router all setup! "It looks ugly, but if it performs well then I shall forgive it for it's short comings", I said to myself. The router itself has 2 attenna coming out it's back with 4 x RJ45 cable netowrk connectors for computers that still use the cable alternative. 1 x RJ45 socket was for the modem to connect to it, very standard setup for a router but it works. It is compatible...

Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router - a real buffalo?
Advantages: Reasonable price, easy to use, lots of advanced settings
Disadvantages: installation firewall issue, signal strengh only reasonable
...I bought this router from a local Argos shop at an emergency situation i.e. I want it now and therefore not at the best price - 49.99.
Reason: My all singing and all dancing Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router had lost its main function, 'internet connectivity' after a month or so of continuous use (see my other review, now updated, for details). All is left is wireless communication i.e. useless. The return of this router back to Amazon caused me a week (lots of emails + recorded delivery + check that the refund includes the recorded delivery etc)
For Argos, there is an obvious advantage - if there is something wrong with it, I just take it back for a refund/replacement on the same day.
This router comes with detail instructions (step-by-step) for installation however it does not cater for the presence of a firewall...
