Kelantan:Cradle of Malay Culture
Advantages: Cradle of Malay culture. Tasty food. Friendly people
Disadvantages: No alcohol on sale.
...Kelantan,the north eastern state of Peninsular Malaysia borders Thailand and this fascinating state is often regarded as a "Cradle of Malay Culture". It is a predominantly Malay state and markedly different from the west coast states where the Chinese and Indian influences are strong.
The state capital of Kota Bahru is a first rate place for visitors interested in Malay culture. The wayang kulit puppet show is performed with great ability here,Kelantan is also famous for its kites, its silver products, batik, brocade and a host of traditional arts and crafts. Even its cuisine, heavily influenced by its Thai neighbour is very different from the cuisine to be found in the rest of the Peninsular.
The people of Kelantan are renowned for the outgoing, friendly, attitude towards visitors and go out of their way to make tourists feel at home...

No Stain, No Pain.
Advantages: Good for small stain removal.
Disadvantages: None.
....
It can be used on most carpets, though they do recommend that you do a test patch before you begin. The 1001 cleaner is wool safe approved.
If you have lots of sticky little fingers roaming around then I am sure that you would bless this cleaner, I have safely removed chocolate and the odd food stains from the fabric on my sofa's after the family have been to visit.
They do say that you should not use the 1001 cleaner on velvet or brocade materials though.
The light foam does have a slight smell attached to it but it is not an unpleasant one.
If you were going to clean an entire carpet then you would need to look at the other options available. The 1001 Troubleshooter spray is really only for removing the odd marks and spots.
This cleaning product like any other needs to be kept out of the reach of children.
1001 have a host...

Daphne and her Paper Factory
Advantages: Educational visit
Disadvantages: It's not exactly Disney Land
...very charming and authentic but ultimately not very useful. If you've ever tried to write on handmade papers, then you'll know what I mean. It's not an easy experience and they are probably wise to use most of the paper for those lampshades.
We emerged without spending anything but we were somewhat wiser. The man in the shop knew the translation of daphne and showed us photos of the tree from which the paper is made. Daphne, it turned out, it the botanical name for Mulberry, something that we don't have in England so we felt less guilty for not knowing about it. Clearly it's got more uses than just feeding silk-worms.
As a totally irrelevant aside, I learned when trying to sell raspberry flavours to a major Chinese confectionery firm, that China doesn't have raspberries and mulberries are as close as they get - there you go, my...

1001 TO THE RESCUE AGAIN
Advantages: Does the job well, smells quite nice
Disadvantages: You have to buy it!
...of this stain remover.
The stains were dried on, so this was the real test, I sprayed the foam on as instructed and worked from the outside to the centre of the stain with a damp (clean) cloth, it really did work!
Directions for use are : For liquid spills blot with a kitchen roll to soak up excess first. For solid residues scrape up excess with a knife first.
It does state on the bottle that heavily soiled areas and long piled carpets may need a second application.
To finish the job, just blot up wetness with kitchen roll and leave to dry.
The product is suitable for wool carpets, but not for velvet or brocade or in fact anything not suited to wet cleaning. Test a hidden area first for colour fastness.
I also advise wearing rubber gloves, as the smell (although quite pleasant) can linger on your hands.
At around £2...

The Capital of The Land of Lightening
Advantages: Unique Culture. Nice Handicrafts. Friendly People
Disadvantages: Night life is limited. No alcohol is served
...;s rich culture. There are spinning tops, giant kites, drums (rebana ubi), cultural performances such as shadow play (wayang kulit) and traditional dances. The Royal Museum which house loads of regalia is worth a visit, as too is the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum, where you will see silverware, batik, brocade and woodcarvings on display.
Attractive beaches within easy reach of Kota Bharu include Pantai Cahaya Bulan, 10 miles to the north, Pantai Irama in Bachok, 25 miles south of the state capital, and Pantai Sri Tujuh in Tumpat. Also in Tumpat is the giant Reclining Buddha at Kampung Jambu. Several interesting fishing villages in the area include Sabak Beach and Kuala Besar.
No review of Kelantan should overlook the unique cuisine of this state. Local specialities include barbecued chicken (ayam percik), nasi dagang and nasi...

The Capital of the Malaysian Rice Bowl
Advantages: Historic buildings. Culture .Unspoilt.Laid back lifestyle
Disadvantages: Not well known on the tourist trail
...Art Gallery which in Malay is called the Balai Seri Negeri.
If you fancy a panoramic view of Alor Star go and have a hearty lunch at the Menora Alor Star;this 166 metre tall tower has a restaurant, which is of the revolving type. There is also an observation deck complete with binoculars.
The Wednesday market or Pekan Rabu is a fun spot with loads of stalls selling foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables and inexpensive locally produced handicrafts. Good buys include padi straw pictures and textiles, particularly brocade and batik....

The Beckoning Cats of Tokyo
Advantages: Culture. Interesting
Disadvantages: Difficult for foreigners to understand the cultural significance
..., the Maneki-Neko will draw customers and bring prosperity to the establishment; if the right paw is raised, money and good fortune will come the way of the shop. Beckoning cats are also trusted to ward off evil: they are used by cocoon breeders to protect the silkworm against rats and they are sometimes tied around a child’s waist to protect them against pained sickness.
There are a lot of legends concerning the Japanese Beckoning cats but there is general agreement that there origins go back at least three or four centuries to the Tokugawa and possibly the Oda Nobunaga dynasties. Several stories relate to temples and there was reputed to be a temple so poor the -Goroki-Ji Temple- it only had a single priest and a solitary cat. Times were hard and ultimately, in absolute desparation the priest requested the cat to assist in raising money...

PEE POST PEED ME OFF
Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: Doesn't work
...The Pee Post brought to you by Simple Solutions costs around £5.99 and can be purchased from most major Pet Shops.
It claims that by putting this 8" post into a spot in your garden, you dog will be instantly drawn to the Pheromone (which I will go into in a moment) chemical on it and will be trained to go just to this spot in your garden, what a brilliant genius idea, or is it?
About Pheromone, if like me at first you never had a clue what it is?
Pheromones, in additional to the sense of smell, the body also has the ability to sense certain chemical signals. Pheromones were first identified in 1956, it was found originaly in a Silkworm Moth. It took scientists 20 years to isolate the chemical which proved to be at first a powerful sexual attractant. They named this pheromone 'bombykal' meaning "come to me". They found that...

Rza's music is pure and simple hard Hip Hop. This is made up of some unbelievable lyrics put over some even better music. Everyone one likes to bounce along to music and this is one of the best head bopping albums around. Hip Hop fans should all have heard of this as it contains vial tracks from Wu-Tang and Hip Hop history. There is a lot of gangster talk in their songs...

They Be To Rap What Key Be To Lock
Advantages: Lots of bangers
Disadvantages: Nothing specific
...The New York-based Jazz Rap act Digable Planets were seen to make their breakthrough in 1993 as they came at a time when the freshness of Jazz Rap had lost this quality and Gangsta Rap had taken over the airwaves, and so with ?Reachin?? the alternative group (who consisted of artists who go by the names of Ladybug Mecca, Doodlebug, Butterfly and backing from Silkworm) came with the sort of things which was popularised by De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Gang Starr with artists who had been brought together despite being raised all over the country with a Washington State, D.C., Philly being the homelands of the individuals.
1. ?It?s Good To Be Here?
Getting the album underway in a manner which seems fitting, as they come out with something jazzy to liven up listeners as the MCs get down to things and come with their unique...
