...Having recently started my own business, i was on the look out for a good value fax machine. Having had a Brother fax machine at my previous job i was impressed by its reliablilty and the cost of consumables. Whilst looking at rival fax machines, i could not find one that matched the excellent specification or price. The printer can be used as a multifunction device, however i only utilise it as a fax machine. However i have the back up that if one of my printers breaks down i can use the machine as a back up it could also be used as an emergency scanner or photocopier, although you can only feed sheets through it, so its use is limited on these points. The only slight niggle i have with the machine is that it does not seem to like my cheap copy paper that i use, and it sometimes requires that i only have one sheet in the feeder tray... Read review

...I use this fax machine at work and it is the cause of so much stress and tension I thought I would let you all know how I was beaten by such a plain, dull and basically annoying machine that jams on a regular basis, smudges fax transmissions and forgets to send certain important pages at random. If you wanted to buy a Brother FAX 8360P and I would urge everyone reading not to it would cost around £230 and for that you get the fax machine, a network cable to hook it up to your LAN and a lead to plug it into the phone network to enable transmissions. We have had our Brother FAX 8360P for 6 months and the problems started pretty much straight away and the instruction manuals FAQ are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard, as it the manufacturers support. ...When buying I suspected that I'd run up higher than desired costs due to the 4 colours, even though mainly using it as a fax machine, but judged that, overall, it was good to have a back-up printer, copier. I liked it when I used it first, but it ran through the colour cartridges very quickly, despite it mainly being used for black and white printing (fax receipt). However, since changing the cartridges, I've been inable to use the machine at all. I keep getting the message 'No cartridge'. WHile this message is on the machine, nothing else works - even sending. Equally, when I've changed the cartridges, the machine still fails to find them. I tried one set of Brother cartridges, then (due to cost), a set of generics. Nothing has worked. ...Our office fax machine gave up the ghost recently. It was a BT Paperjet-60, and while we had been fairly happy with it, it lasted less than two years. Wanting something a little more reliable, and being very pleased with our two Brother laser printers, we opted for a Brother T86. WHY A COMBINED FAX - ANSWERPHONE? Before the BT Paperjet 60, we owned a fax machine without an answerphone built in, and went through 5 different answerphones trying to get a combination that worked. Frequently, the answerphone would collect faxes on tape, and the fax machine would try to receive answerphone messages, or neither would work at all. Advantages: Easy to use, cheap and economical

...I first used the Brother 8060P fax 5 years ago when my wife and I had our own company - Payroll bureau and Courier. In that setting there were 40 incoming and 25 outgoing faxes per day on average. All of these were a minimum of 4 pages. On top of this the ability to use it as a photocopier meant that we were printing approx 250 pages per day on this machine. I don't class that as light use and we were very pleased with the performance. When we sold the company all the equipment went with it. Around a month after that I had the need to send some faxes and instantly thought of the 8060P as I had found 4 toner cartridges for it.. Onto eBay for a quick search and found one for sale nearby. ...Last month I made an extremely useful acquisition in the Brother FAX-920. I have now been using it for over 6 weeks and I felt it was now time to share some information with you on something that I have certainly not regretted buying. First of all let me touch on the appearance of the machine. The body is in a sleek black colour and the size is good enough to fit comfortably on your desk or table without occupying too much space and at the same time not looking too small. Just the right size if you get what I mean. It uses plain paper and this being the standard A4 Photocopy/Laser type. These papers are available at all stationery shops and are not expensive. ...MY EXPERIENCE. I use a fax machine everyday in my job, I'm always faxing internal and external customers various literature and information. We did have a very old fax when i started her last in august 2003, it was very slow indeed, the pages went through about 1 every 30 seconds at times, and the paper used was the horrible fax rolls type, which got jammed up inside it every now and again, which is very annoying. So after a bit of moaning and groaning, and abit of pressure, we finally got a new fax machine, and this is what we got. The installation was so easy, plug in the mains power, then plug in the phone line, away we go, easy peasy, Obviously installation would be abit more difficult without mains power or a phone line already installed, but we didn't have this problem. ...What can I say, I bought this printer as an impulse buy. I only paid £45 for it brand new from a well known stationery shop. It has replaced a mono-laser printer bought second hand. To get a copier/scanner/printer for £45 is good, but one that faxes as well. It did as was claimed on the box, I just plugged it in, connected it to my laptop and within minutes the drivers were installed and it was ready for use. I was a bit dubious about the fax, but it works fine both to send and receive. Replacement cartridges are only £35 for a set for genuine brother, and I have sourced non-genuine for £14 for the set. The cartridges can also be refilled. All in all, this is one excellent package.... Read review

In 1997, in the days before email (at my workplace anyway), and in light of the fact I was working from home a lot, I decided to purchase a fax machine to be installed on a second telephone line at home. I trailed down to the BT shop to have a look at my options. One of my requirements was that I wanted a Plain Paper Fax Machine, and the BT shop had for sale the wonderful Brother Fax 1020 Plain Paper Fax. Bingo!
