Afternoon Tea at Browns Restaurant and Bar

Advantages: Good value afternoon tea
Disadvantages: Slow service

...Recently one of my favourite things is afternoon tea. You would think that living in London it would be easy to find somewhere to have tea and scones. Living in London it is usually fairly easy to find whatever food I feel like eating, no matter how exotic that food is but it seems that finding somewhere where you can have afternoon tea that doesn't cost upwards of £25 is close to impossible! I was even considering paying the £38 that it costs to have afternoon tea at the ritz but fortunately before I managed to book a table a friend of mine suggested we have afternoon tea at Browns. I agreed, thinking that she meant the hotel and that I would still be paying over £30 for tea. Fortunately the place she had in mind was Browns Restaurant and Bar, not Browns hotel. Brown like crap.

Advantages: Nice relaxed atmosphere

...Browns - Leeds I've never really been a fan of this sort of "restaurant", however I ended up at the Browns Leeds last Saturday. I expected Browns to be quite small inside but was surprised when I arrived to see a huge room decorated with marble floors and walls and your usual plants. Browns has a nice relaxed atmosphere inside and caters for a wide diversity of people, such office workers, students, OAPs and Shoppers. As there were a large number of friends with me we had to wait around for our large table to be cleared, I fancied a drink so tootled over to the bar where I was surprised to find only one type of lager, Strapomen I believe it was. You won't be Browned off at Browns!

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, amazing food.
Disadvantages: Bit Pricey for everyday, more for special occasions.

...My Daughter and I decided to treat ourselves to Sunday Lunch at Browns Restaurant in Cambridge. Which although many years ago was the V.D. Clinic is quite an impressive building! It has High ceilings and is decorated in the colonial style with ceiling fans and wicker chairs. We had a drink at the bar first, A spritzer for me and Pimms for my daughter, the drinks were beautifully chilled and the Pimms was served with much fruit and mint, perfect. Pricey though, £8.15 for just 2 drinks. We were shown to our table within 5 minutes and the waitress gave us enough time to decide but not so long that we felt we had been forgotten. Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.

Advantages: Lovely, lovely food, surroundings and atmosphere
Disadvantages: Pricey - needs to be a special occasion

...This review actually refers to Bibendum and not the Oyster Bar downstairs. Bibendum is housed on the first floor of the old Michelin building. We went there for Sunday lunch at the beginning of May, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the surroundings. We tend to visit these types of restaurant for Sunday or Saturday lunch, as they offer the same quality food they would in the evening, but at a fraction of the price. We were able to book our table for 1pm a few weeks in advance, and none of our party of four had ever eaten here before. The entrance to the restaurant for those who haven't visited before could be quite confusing, as it isn't really properly signed from outside the building. We ended up entering through the Oyster Bar on the ground floor, but subsequently found out that the restaurant does have it's own ground...

The Mighty Mars Bar

Advantages: Classic chocolate bar
Disadvantages: They changed the nougat filling

...this in a minute. The Mars Bar consists of three components: 1. The chocolate: Light brown, this covers the entire bar. The top has a thicker, rippled pattern to it marking little diamond shapes. The edges of the bar are smooth and thinner and the bottom is imprinted with little fancy squigles. Mars Chocolate has its own unique taste. It isn't creamy and doesn't melt quickly in your mouth; it requires chewing first to relase the sweet coco flavour (or by dipping it in tea first!). It's not the best tasting chocolate which is proberly why Mars have never introduced a plain block of it's own chocolate (like Cadbury with the Dairy Milk bar or Nestle with the Yorkie Bar). ...We were very lucky to receive a Red Letter Day experience gift at Christmas which involved a trip to the theatre and dinner for two at a nearby restaurant. Having settled on 'We Will Rock You' at the Dominion Theatre for our show, we were allocated a pre-theatre meal at the Creation Bar and Restaurant which is part of the OLd Kenilworth Hotel. The Creation Restaurant is at 97 Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury literally only a five minute walk from the Dominion. As it's not quite on a main road you might not know it was there and indeed at six o'clock on a Tuesdau evening it was not very busy at all. ...well. Once inside the restaurant there is a bar in the middle and then tables along the walls of the restaurant as well as some tables in the middle. The restaurant is very light and airy with off white colouring and quite modern with some really interesting paintings, vases with great flowers etc. The toilets were nice too, clean and also quite funky in design so I would recommend that you check those out too. The menu is printed each day as ours had the date on it. I assume this is becasue the fresh fish can vary from day to day. They offer a taster menu for £64 per person which I think had about 6 or 7 courses on it or you can just order off the regular menu. Mains are approximately £20-25 each but are more if you order Lobster which I think was about £45. We just ordered off the regular menu. The food was absolutely amazing...

...which I paid no attention. Knowing we'd have dinner out we had intended to save ourselves but it all went a bit wrong. Sabine's colleagues had been 'cleaning out the freezers' in the company basement and found a massive chocolate cake and several boxes of cake bars. This is pretty typical where I work. It's rude and irresponsible to throw away good food of course and we'd not wanted to be accused of being wasteful so you can imagine that we weren't as hungry as we really needed to be by the time we came to eat.
