...Where the bloody hell is Bruges? In Bruges is a 2008 comedy staring Colin Farrell (phrowaaaa) and Brendan Gleeson. When I read it was a comedy I was interested to see it because I think Colin Farrell is quite funny anyway so I thought it would be quite good,. I didn?t know much about the plot but as it also got an award I had high hopes. Well, it?s probably best described as a dark comedy. It sort of reminded me of a Lock, Stock type funny film with the same type of London gangster laughs and get-ups. The main themes running through the movie are that are guilt, morality and redemption and it?s done well. In my opinion you do get to see some real emotion from the main stars and that they are really thinking about where they find themselves in their life. I didn?t love this movie though because I thought it was quite slow and not...

Maybe that's what Hell is - an eternity spent in Bruges!

Advantages: Great script, well shot and directed, good performances, un-PC
Disadvantages: Slightly too contrived ending

...When a 'job' goes drastically wrong for two hitmen sent to kill a priest, the two hitmen in question, Ken and Ray, are sent off by their mobster boss Harry to camp out in a hotel in Bruges until the chaos has blown over. Ken (Brendan Gleeson) decides to take the opportunity to soak up the culture in this 'fairytale' city, but Ray (Colin Farrell) is less impressed with being dragged around Bruges tourist attractions, declaring Bruges a 'shithole'. However, when they come across a film set with a rather attractive crew member, Ray decides that maybe there is something worth seeing in Bruges after all. However, while Ray is out on his date, Ken receives a phone call from Harry with a set of instructions he is not prepared for... All in all, this doesn't sound like the most action packed film you've ever seen, and those looking for thrills...

Knickerless in Bruges!

Advantages: A good small and friendly hotel with excellent service. Great location too!
Disadvantages: Steep (very) stairs to bedrooms.

...During our recent trip to Belgium we stayed in Bruges. We had never stayed there before and, when planning the trip, didn?t know any hotels to base our decision on which to pick on. Our group was quite large (there were to be 17 of us in total) so we needed a decent sized place, but not in a huge and impersonal hotel. We also wanted to be well located in the centre of Bruges, but not too far away from the railway station (or at least easy to get to by public transport). So the criteria was small(ish), friendly, clean, good location, decent breakfast, good transport links and not too expensive. Were we asking too much? Our trip organiser (who was also in charge of transport) had a scout around and came up with the Hotel Nicolas. ~~~WHERE IS IT? The Hotel Nicolas can be found at 9 Niklaas Desparsstraat in the centre of Bruges...

In Bruges - Politically incorrect -bad language - loved it!

Advantages: Imaginative story, fantastic dialogue - will make you both laugh and cry!
Disadvantages: A bit of a dark film for some - will not cheer you up!

...In Bruges I had heard this film talked about plenty in the last few months, but haven't had a chance to rent it yet. Then it came on Sky Anytime and I got the chance to see what everyone was raving about... I am a big fan of Pulp Fiction and Tarantino films and whilst the violence is not on this level, there are similarities with depicting atrocities against a background of quick witted dialogue and matter of fact delivery of lines. Advantages: Hilarious, great performances, original, heartbreaking
Disadvantages: Possibly a little confused, genre-wise.

...Despite being one of the best films made in 2008, In Bruges seems to have slipped under the radar a little bit; a low budget film debut by playwright Martin McDonagh set almost entirely in the beautiful city of Bruges, it isn't difficult to see why. Namely, the humour involved is often so bleak as to wander into dramatic territory, as it follows a pair of hitmen as they lie-low in Bruges after a botched hit. ...Film - In Bruges Stars - Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson Plot - Two hitmen Ken(Gleeson) and Ray(Farrell) are sent by the Boss, Harry to Bruges after their last hit. Unaware of why they are there, they await instructions, Ken by soaking up the cultural and Ray by complaining about how terrible the place is, harassing a 'midget' and chatting up local beauty Chloe. It soon transpires that the Boss wants Ken to kill Ray because of a mistake he made in the last hit. The Boss has principles after all. But Ken finds himself unable to do this and soon the Boss has to finish the job himself, but will his principles still stand when all is said and done? Beautiful Bruges

Advantages: Clean,beautiful,romantic. Beers are nice!
Disadvantages: busy on weekends,not too much to do

...I visited the "venice of the north" in September 2006 with my girlfriend by Eurostar, and i had a very nice time! We left london on a thursday night, catching the 6.10pm eurostar train from waterloo, and arriving in Brussels midi station. We then had to take a connecting train to Bruges, which took about 50 minutes,and considering that there are 2 trains every hour to bruges, the journey isnt taxing at all, and I much preferred taking the Eurostar to Bruges rather than taking the plane. The city of Bruges itself is very compact, and if you put your mind to it, you could probably walk and see most of the city in a day. On the first night that we were there, we arrived at our hotel, one of the Small luxury hotels of the world called the Romantik Pandhotel, which is situated brilliantly in the centre of Bruges. Beautiful Bruges

Advantages: Pretty and unspoilt
Disadvantages: Can get crowded in the summer

...Bruges is one of the most picturesque towns in Europe. With improved road links, it is now just over an hour’s drive from Calais. Parking is free and you can easily explore the town on foot. The current strength of the pound means there are some bargains to be had, or you could just soak up the wonderful atmosphere. WHAT’S BRUGES LIKE? It is a quaint old town with cobbled streets and canals running through it. You can take a guided boat ride (which is touristy, but interesting), or a horse-drawn carriage ride (more expensive!). Mooning About in Bruges!

Advantages: An interesting and informative tour.
Disadvantages: Steep steps and uneven floors.

...When we go to Belgium we do indulge in a fair amount of beer sampling, but we do try to do a bit of sight seeing too. So when the beer sampling and the sight seeing can seamlessly coincide then life is good! Once such example of this wondrous occurrence can be found during a day out in the Flanders city of Bruges. A trip to the Brewery de Halve Maan (previously known as the Straffe Hendrik brewery) combines history, beer drinking and a good day out! ~~~WHERE IS THE BREWERY? The brewery, bar, restaurant, museum and visitor centre that make up this tourist attraction is located at 26 Walplein. It isn't far from the cathedral, the main tourist sites in Bruges (the diamond museum is not far away) and is about ten minutes walk from the train station.
