Brugge me, a bragain
Advantages: Centrally located, inexpensive
Disadvantages: None, for a budget hotel
...I recently took advantage of a special offer from Superfast Ferries and sailed to Belgium, the intention being to do a bit of shopping and spend some time in Bruges. As we were staying overnight, we needed a hotel, and the hotel we chose was the IBIS BRUGGE CENTRUM.
Booking this hotel is simplicity itself. The website is very easy to use and once you complete the search for your chosen property, just fill in your details and three clicks later your room is booked.
It's also easy to cancel - we had to change our booking due to a fff...fowl-up with the ferry company. Within a few minutes, I typed in my confirmation number, cancelled, and booked a room for the following night.
IBIS hotels are part of the ACCOR group which includes the hotels chains of Sofitel, Mercure, Novotel and Etap, among others.
According to Ibis, all their...

QUAINT OLD TOWN
Advantages: nice place
Disadvantages: not that much to do
...and the sailing set again. We went last week when the cheap season was on, but cheap meant £364 for the 2 of us just for the crossing. I can see this boat going again as the Boat only had about 60 people on it either way. Anyway we aren't hear to talk about the Ferry, we are hear to talk about the town that is Bruges.
Although the Ferry docks in the port of Zeebrugges, most people tend to hear to Bruges. About 7 miles from the Port but the Taxi's tend to be very expensive. We took advantage of a 24 Euro fare through the Ferry, but we saw on the meter coming back that that tiny 7 mile journey would have cost aprox 46 Euro. We cannot measure the journey in a straight line, as most of Brugges is a 1 way system, so you find yourselves going around in circles to get to the main road to get out.
Bruges is full of Tourists no doubt because...

Beautiful Brugge
Advantages: Scenery, Great hotels, food and shopping
Disadvantages: Can be crowded in Summer
...I have visited Brugge or Bruges to the French, in the Flanders region of Belgium many times. I have to say it is probably my favourite European city.
There are two parts to Brugge, the new and the main residential exterior area, and the old walled medieval town and haunt for the many tourists that are drawn to it.
Brugge dates back hundreds of years but detailed history of it starts around the 13th century, hence there is some marvellous architecture to observe, including the 272 foot high Belfry, located in the central Markt and main square. If you fancy the exercise, scale the 370 odd steps to gain a superb view of the town.
There are great and inexpensive places to eat and drink in Brugge. If you like Belgian beer, try the local golden ales, that in some cases will literally blow your head off. The beers are served to you in...

Ideally situated and comfortable
Advantages: Central location, clean and friendly staff
Disadvantages: No tea/coffe making facilities in rooms
...We stayed in the Novotel on a recent short break to Brugge. It is easy to find and ideally situated for exploring the city.
The hotel is in a square near to the Ibis Hotel on one of the main roads into the city. It is hidden from view to preserve the character of the area. There is a nearby underground car park with easy access to the hotel.
The hotel itself is fairly new. It is clean and well equipped. There are approximately 200 rooms on 4 floors. Rooms are cleaned daily and there is an ample supply of toiletries provided. There is a mini bar, but unfortunately, no tea or coffe making facilities.
Facilities at the hotel include a Restaurant, Bar and outdoor heated Swimming pool. The only drawback is that the pool is closed between October and May.
Service at the hotel is friendly and all staff speak English. Thay...

Brugge Minicruise with P and O
Advantages: Not at all stressful
Disadvantages: May not be as stressless if a rough crossing
...We have just returned from a minicruise with P&O to Zeebrugge from Hull on th ePride of Brugge, an overall we were very happy with the trip.
Checking In and Parking.
Parking is free at the terminal in Hull and there appeared to be plenty of spaces, checking in was easy and the staff were friendly. The waiting lounge is looking a bit tired but there was a drinks and snacks area, along with kiddies play area.
The Ship and Cabin.
Again the ships crew were very friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of staff around to direct you to your cabin.
We had booked a premier outside 2 berth cabin, which consisted of the 2 bunks, a chair, desk and mirror, the ensuite shower/toilet was a good size and the cabin in general was very clean. The only gripe was the shower head kept sinking down the riser rail as you showered, but it added...

P and O Hull Zeebrugge - Pride of Brugge/York
Advantages: Relaxing travel, good price, If you want a cruising taster a good option
Disadvantages: Expensive onboard food, innacurate cabin, transfer bus confusion.
...We have just come back from a 2 night plus 1 night in Brugge going Hull to Zeebrugge on 'Pride of Brugge' returning on 'Pride of York' travelling outbound on Brugge and back on York.
Trip cost £182 and was in a Premier 2 berth both ways (window out) and (inside) return.
I would throughly recommend as a different way to reach Eurupe and explore the lovely city of Brugge.
We took the trip based on an excellent trip to Calais earlier on in the year and this trip was equally enjoyable - albeit a little different to a Dover day trip.
While P and O have a detailed and relatively easy to use web site it can be glitchy sometimes needing several attempts to book both the right day and right direction. Differing cabin classes seems to cause problems. We had hoped to book both ways in club but were forced to book premier as club was fully...

beautiful bruges
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...I took a day trip to Bruges a couple of weeks ago when France and Spain were playing the Euro 2000 quarter-final there. Bruges is a really beautiful city with picturesque canals and rivers (they call Bruges, or Brugge in Flemish, the Venice of the North). It has a wonderful town square where one can sample a few Belgian beers (or ten!) and the people are very friendly. It is perhaps a bit touristy though and there are too many gift shops. It is a shame that it has been changed but I suppose it has become a victim of its own success. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit Bruges and if you live in or around the London area it is possible to see Bruges in a day, although it will be a long day!...

Wilkommen free-spending culture vultures
Advantages: quaint, plenty to do
Disadvantages: pricey, popular with British SAGA tours
...If you have read my Review on Bruxelles, you will know that my style is to try and describe the atmosphere rather than list specific attractions, and this applies here too
If you have NOT read my Bruxelles Op, WHY NOT!!!
I always imagined Brugge to be a quaint little town that was probably over-rated and infested with coach tours on their way back to the channel ports. On the latter point there is a grain of truth, it gets very popular in the summer and is quite compact
Brugge is in the Flemish part of Belgium so if you've been to quaint Dutch towns you will notice a resemlance
It is a working town though, although it relies on tourism it is home to a train manufacturer which (fascinating fact) has built all the Virgin Voyager trains and others supplied to UK rail companies. You are unlikely to se smokestack industry though...

Located in the heart of Brussels
Advantages: Location, cleanliness, food, size of rooms!
Disadvantages: Gym is very hot
...are plenty of fruit juices, yoghurts, pastries, fruit, toast, waffles. The food was hot and was replenished everytime it looked like it was going down.
There is a bar at the hotel but we never went in it as there are so many bars on the doorstep of the hotel. The bar is located right next to the breakfast room. The reception staff are very helpful, they looked up train times for us when we wanted to go on trips to Brugge (60min train ride), Waterloo(25min train ride) etc. Also as we had an evening flight we had to check out of our room at midday, but they happily stored our cases in a safe room, so we could carry on exploring the city on our final day.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again if i went to Brussels and i would most certainly recommend it to my friends & family. The best thing about the hotel about from...
