Mamouna - Bryan Ferry
Advantages: beautiful recorded selection of cool, adult songs
Disadvantages: the pace falters a little in the middle
...Mamouna was the product of years of wearying studo work. Bryan Ferry first began working on these songs in 1989. He shelved the whole album, at that point called Horoscope, in 1991, frustrated by the snails-pace progress he was making.
But the delays were entirely Ferry's own fault. Seduced by evermore complex studios, Ferry had been using 64 track set ups and had used every possible track, filling hours of digital space with tiny guitar licks, sax flourishes, cool backing vocals and all sorts of fragments of excellence from top notch musicians and singers. But the songs themselves weren't happening. He had nothing but vapid ambience. It sounded lovely, but there was no heart.
He changed tack, called up producer and guitarist Robin Trower and proceeded to record an album of covers - Taxi - very quickly and using only one small...

Bryan's masterwork.
Advantages: better sound
Disadvantages: another version to buy
...When Bryan Ferry?s sixth studio album was released in the June of 1985 as a long-standing fan of ?Bryan?s? music and that of ?Roxy Music?, I bought it with out hearing a single track apart from the single ?Slave to Love? (which was featured extensively on the soundtrack to the movie ?9 ˝ weeks? and reached number 10 in the U.K. charts, the album itself gave Bryan his first solo number 1 album.
What we the listening public where treated to was basically the continuation of the ideas and themes on the last ?Roxy Music? album ?Avalon? which is full of soundscapes and sonic textures.
But for this version of Bryan?s vision it looks like he created a wish list of musicians for the project and everyone he asked came to the party, the list reads like a who?s who of the music world at that time, David Gilmour (from ?Pink Floyd?), Nile...

Bryan Goes It Alone
Advantages: Thirteen Great Cover Versions
Disadvantages: None
...This op was prompted by reading JOHNV's op on the same album. It's my favourite Bryan Ferry solo outing , and in my opinion, his most successful.
Born September 26, 1945 in Washington in the North England, Bryan Ferry, the son of a coal miner, began his musical career as a singer with the rock outfit the Banshees while studying art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne under pop-conceptualist Richard Hamilton. Later he joined the Gas Board, a soul group featuring bassist Graham Simpson. In 1970, Ferry and Simpson formed Roxy Music and within a few years, Roxy Music had become phenomenally successful, which allowed Ferry the opportunity to indulge his first solo LP in 1973. Far removed from the group's arty glam-rock, These Foolish Things consisted completely of cover versions, just about beating David Bowie's similar project...

Ferry in party mode
Advantages: Probably his least arty, most commercial album
Disadvantages: Not a critical favourite, sometimes derided for lacking depth
...‘In Your Mind’ was Bryan Ferry’s third solo album, or his fourth, if you include the singles/EP tracks compilation ‘Let’s Stick Together’. It was also the first to be issued after he had placed Roxy Music on hold in 1976, and his first to consist entirely of original material. As such it was a logical follow-up to the (then) last Roxy set ‘Siren’. The art-school and progressive rock dabblings of earlier days had more or less gone, his ambient and crooning styles were some way ahead. In retrospect this was the most unashamedly pop album he ever made, and as such it’s probably the most fun.
The first track, ‘This Is Tomorrow’, which reached No. 9 as a single early in 1977, sets the scene for what follows. A deceptively slow intro and first verse slips into a belter...

The Best of Bryan Adams
Advantages: Contains 15 great tracks
Disadvantages: None
...'The Best of Me' by Bryan Adams
I purchased my Bryan Adams The Best of Me album about 8 months ago. This album contains great songs.
The Tracks
1. The Best Of Me
'When you want it, when you need it, you'll always get the best of me.'
This opening track is nice with its great melody, good rendition of acoustic guitar and Bryan's husky voice.
2. Can't Stop This Thing We Started
'I aint superman and I can't fly, but if you wanna stop me baby , don't even try.'
This track comes in rock style and Adams delivers it with unique style as he goes speechy and sexy with this song.
3 . I'm Ready
'I'm ready to love you, I'm ready to hold you.'
This is a very romantic mellow song. Bryan goes in slow tempo with this track with brilliant lyrics.
4. Summer of '69
'And if I had the choice, yeah, I'd always...

Ferry Across The Solent!
Advantages: Reliable and quick.
Disadvantages: The price is a variant!
...To get to the Isle of Wight there is only one way..... by boat. There is no tunnel or bridge so everyone has to get a boat or if taking a car then the only option is by ferry. The other half and I decided to spend a three night break on the island, and although the island itself is a great place to relax and unwind, I did kind of feel that the ferry companies were getting the last laugh on us.
About three weeks before the trip, when the Isle of Wight was chosen as the destination for our break, we looked up all options for taking a car across the water. We could travel from Southampton or Lymington using the Red Funnel or using Wightlink from Portsmouth. Although this was more than Red Funnel in cost of the ticket it was far more convenient for us to travel from Portsmouth than to have to drive a further 20 miles to Southampton to...

Smooth grooves from the god of love
Advantages: Velvety vocals, pristine production
Disadvantages: Mix of covers and originals doesn't quite come off
...Smooth, full-bodied and sophisticated. Enjoy it on your own or with friends. The exquisite taste of... Bryan Ferry.
Yes, the old lounge lizard is back with Frantic - his eleventh solo album. And the title is surely ironic: Bryan Ferry could be called many things but frantic isn't one of them. That said, this album gets off to a pretty sparky start. He's on familiar territory, covering a Bob Dylan song - 'It's all Over Now, Baby Blue'. It's something he does with aplomb - he produced the definitive version of Bob's A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall in 1973. This version is nearly as good: driven by a string quartet and Dylanesque harmonica, with Ferry putting in the emotion that Dylan's voice sometimes misses. This is one of a pair of Dylan covers. 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright' gets a low-key treatment on the album, with Ferry's quavering...

Ferry of success
Advantages: good value for money, clean easy to book and relaxing atmosphere
Disadvantages: i cant think of any
...Norfolk Ferries
This is the first time i have used Norfolk Ferries as previously i have only used P&O ferries from Dover to Calais but in this occasion i was going from Dover to Dunkerque, 2 hours long. Norfolk as i know have been around for about 4 years and we came across them online as the cheapest deal. The website was really easy to use and we booked the same morning as our trip. I thought the price of Ł40 for a return trip journey for 2 people and a car was pretty good. Well condsidering prices of other ways eg- Euro Tunnel this was a cheap opition.
We decided to travel in the early hours of the morning as this was cheaper and the roads on each side would be less busy. On or way their we caught the 2am Ferry and the way back it was the midnight ferry. There were not many people thereforth catching the same as we did...

Ferris Holidays Review
Advantages: Cheap. Affordable.
Disadvantages: Journey - but you get what you pay for.
...Ferris Holidays are a coach holiday company who specialise, mainly, travelling down to the southern coast of Spain. The Costa Brava. If you are looking for a cheap 5 star hotel holiday deal, you've come to the wrong place. But Ferris Holidays do offer the cheapest enjoyable holidays you can find. Believe me.
Ferris Holidays have a fleet of today-modern coaches which the option of Platinum or normal-Executive. With the Platinum travel you have to pay Ł15 extra per person but it's well worth the money as the extra leg room and extra reclining seats cater well for sleeping. No, the seats don't recline 90 degrees as a posed to a normal bed but they do recline enough.
There are toilet facilities on board the coach but due to lack of service stops allowing drivers to empty the toilet, drivers ask passengers to take full advantage...

Pentland Ferries - the cheap and cheerful way to get to Orkney
Advantages: The cheapest and quickest way to get to Orkney by car, modern vessel, wonderful scenery en route.
Disadvantages: Gills Bay terminal is a bit of an eyesore at the moment and the toilets there are a mess.
...Ciao Review ? Pentland Ferries
The cheap and cheerful way to reach Orkney by car or on foot
For many years, the most popular way to reach Orkney (and prior to 2001, the only way via car) was via P&O Ferries? service from Scrabster (a couple of miles outside Thurso) across to Stromness. Even today it remains probably the most utilised ferry, now operated by Northlink, which is owned by David MacBrayne Ltd., which also owns the more famous Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) ferry company. Northlink receives yearly subsidies to run this lifeline service to Orkney, yet from 2001 the Scrabster-Stromness service has had competition in the shape of a small, local family-run outfit, which offered a shorter and cheaper ferry crossing, albeit using older vessels ? and one that does not receive any financial help whatsoever from the Government...
