Advantages: BT will not go bankrupt
Disadvantages: slow speed, keeps cutting off
...BT - everyones friend (so they say) - unfortunately I don't think so. I signed up for BT evenings and weekends thinking that they would offer high speeds, only cut off in the appropriate times, but no this was not to be true. The speed is very slow, a snail would be able to get there faster, as for cut off time it would be better for them to say "we can cut you off whenever we feel like it". I tried to cancel my account with them but had no response. After countless number of e-mails my account was still active. When I finally spoke to someone via the telephone they said that I could not cancel due to contracts, but no-where in the contract does it state "you must be with BT for a year". A definate no-no by my books for anyone looking for a server with reliability....

BT service and hardware are appalling

Advantages: The internet connection seems to be reliable, but rather slow.
Disadvantages: Service are the worst I have ever experienced. Hardware is dreadful.
...I am, frankly, absolutely disgusted with the quality of BT hardware and their service.
We bought the broadband and phone package in April 2006. A couple of weeks later the wireless router developed an extremely limited range, so that we could only get full radio connection from a PC in the same room as the router. I am an electronics engineer, but literally spent hours on the telephone talking to well-mannered, but pretty hopeless 'engineers' in India. I sent e'mails to the BT Help and complaints addresses. No response AT ALL to any of the e' mails. I sent hard copy letters to the complaints address. Again, no response AT ALL. I sent a couple of copies of the letters to different BT addresses, in the hope that one got through. No responses AT ALL.
The router got worse and worse: in the end, I gave up ringing their Helpdesks and bought...

Nightmare!

Disadvantages: Painful access problems, non existent customer service.
...claiming that BT Internet was aware of the problems and were dealing with them. 4 months later nothing has improved and further e-mail go ignored, in fact it seems as though their automated e-mail response system has been programmed to respond to all complaints with a standard "Check a FAQ on the website" response. What a disaster!! Will BT ever learn?...

10p rise?

...I am taking the chance to give my opinion on what i think is a very unfair move by BT. they say they are going to charge customers an extra 10p for public phone booths! I know it is a response to the taking over of mobile phone networks but i think that 20p is out of reach for a lot of people etc. people who only want to ring a cab, or any other example of a quick phonecall. People will have to put their 20p in and even if they only use 4p they will get nothing at all back! Bt house phones are cheap enough but this i a disgrace....

Possible obstructionism by BT

...I have used 3 Internet Service Providers (other than BT) for several months. I get VERY frustrated when I repeatedly get my calls to my provider on an 0800- number intercepted by a recorded BT announcer who tells me that "The lines are busy, please try again later", or "Sorry there is a fault, please try again later", or "This is a BT announcement - the network is busy, please try again later".
I often try my second telephone line at these times and DO NOT FIND THE SAME MESSAGES!
I have written to BT on this matter accusing them of obstructionism on the 0800-lines to service providers other than themselves. I cannot get any response!.Has anyone else had the same problems? If so, I suggest you keep records, and send BT full details. With a concerted effort, we might get somewhere!...

...Before you consider anything else about BT internet consider one thing. This company has the absolute worst customer service in the world. If you sign up with them and have a problem this is what will happen. You will email them about your problem. You'll get a pretty quick standard response. Which won't be helpful. In a nutshell, unless you have a very straightforward problem BT will start ignoring your emails. And will keep ignoring them. An over-generalisation? Not at all. I know at least ten people (personally) this has happened to. All have left BT. Unfortunately, despite letters and phone calls, BT is still charging them for their accounts! Still think I may be exaggerating? Try and check out the newsgroup BTwhinge. (strangely, there isn't one called BT happycampers!). You may like to note the way in which BT 'answers' the problems...

...Well hasn't Paul willcocks's review got it about right. But where did he get the idea that the reception of speech was satisfactory; in sessions of really trying to get my money's worth of free calls I find myself discontinuing on the BT Home Hou Phone and resorting to mobile or landline. The call breaksup, I cannot hear and at its (very poor) best the voice quality is fuzzy.
Add to this the technical support. I cannot complain about the ffort put in over ther phone to reset it but the results were not good, well not after the first test.
Most frustrating is that I cannot talk to anyone at the BT shop to get a refund. When I get a product return number it just means they send me a replacement. I have REALLY, REALLY tried to get to peak to someone over the phone about how I get a refund. No success. BT shop sends me info on new super...

The no can do company

...£29.97, £9.99 for the November nonexistent service and £19.98 for the advanced charges. Which seemed fair, I paid for one month extra as notice and felt that this deduction was totally justified.
What was BT’s response, well they agreed that I could reduce the bill by £12. (£6 of the Surftime payment is for BT and £4 to Lineone), but they would not budge any further, they said any other refund had to come from Lineone and they would not be paying the £6 back for the non-existent November service. If I did not pay the £18, I would be cut off. Lineone say the November problems were the fault of BT and that they will not pay me back any of the £18. I know £18 ,such a small sum.
So that is where we are, I am not paying for a service I have terminated, or did not receive and BT say tough, they have fulfilled their obligations...

BT Cellnet Customer DONT Care

If anyone has any problems with BT Cellnet their customer care department can be contacted via email, (complaint.resolution@btcellnet.net) but I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a response.
BT Customer DON’T Care.
Another case of a large company oppressing the individual.
