Advantages: Very versatile and intuitive to use. SMS-enabled

...pulling the entire contents of the bedside table with it, whips, silk ropes, harnesses, spare batteries, Ovaltine, Viagra**, the lot, and so we latched onto the idea of buying a twin-station DECT/answering machine arrangement. ** (One helps me sleep; the other stops me rolling out of bed) 'Thanks' to a failing dishwasher, we chanced to be in the 'big' Currys on The Great West Road, hub o'da yoonyverse innit, and decided to bury the cost of the new phone alongside the somewhat higher cost of the new SMEG dishwasher which must at least bring a hint of a snigger to Red Dwarf fans. The BT Verve 450 Twin was what we bought, although I see from subsequent price searches, we 'were done' by Currys having been charged the full BT RRP of nigh-on 80 quid and during a January sale to boot. BT Answering Machine

Advantages: Cheap, looks good and is a BT product

.... There is an indicator on the machine that shows when the battery is starting to run out. AESTHETICS This has to be the nicest answering machine in terms of its looks that I have seen on the market. In terms of its colour and its shape and form is fantastic. It comes in a metallic silver colour, but it's a little darker than most of the modern electronics products so it stands out a bit more. It appears more of a grey colour and suits my brothers office. It is a really 'funky' shape as well. It isn't symetrical so it has a bit of a modern feel to it. None of the edges are straight so you end up with a mishaped ractangle. Disadvantages: Need a battery so you don't lose messages if there's a power cut (as it's digital)

...Yesterday I bought my third machine of this type. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it breaks easily. The dog chewed the wire on the first one but I'd had the second one for over four years. In that time I've dropped it, moved house and put it in storage and moved it around my current house several times. It has proved to be very sturdy and reliable (when the dog doesn't get it!!). This machine is a sort of mis-shaped square shape, 16cm x 12cm and is metallic grey in colour. It will go with most colour telephones and doesn't take up much room. It can also be wall mounted and screws and raw plugs come in the box. My first pick was a BT diversity set but the views on Ciao were all bad so I kept looking, The Verve 450 series caught my eye next because of its good look (glossy black finish)and feel (substantial weight and size) so after taking a careful look at the features and testing out the feel of the thing I took a chance and bought it,and Im pleased I did. The Curse of BT1571

Advantages: OK if you don't mind BT conning you out of your hard earned cash.
Disadvantages: Totally inflexible, you have no control over its operation, you cant turn it off.

...The Curse of BT1571: This has got to be the most inflexible answering service on the planet. You have absolutely no control over how it operates and the marketing ploy is that all new customers get it free, the truth of course is that the person calling gets charged for a connected call and you have to call them back.. BT wins both ways!! If you want it removed you have to contact BT and ask them, but you didn't ask for it in the first place! Its so much better if the caller gets an engaged tone instead of being robbed yet again by BT's unscrupulous hidden con of providing you with this 'FREE' service. My advise ring them, complain STRONGLY that you didn't want it in the first place. And get it turned off. ?. End of rant!...
