A meal fit for a queen?

...On our recent trip to Bude Mr Tart and myself were looking for somewhere posh to eat on the Saturday night. We had despaired because a wander around the town the night before had established that Bude was not awash with restaurants. We used the Internet to see if we could find anywhere and came up with the Castle Restaurant, which promised fine dining and stunning views ? it looked perfect! LOCATION: The Castle is located inside Bude castle. This is not (much to my historical disappointment) a real castle but a Victorian building with some Victorian revival towers and crenellations thrown in! The castle overlooks the water and the location is good for those promised stunning views. The Castle is easy to spot in Bude and was within 10 minutes walk of our guesthouse. BUDE! Beautiful BUDE but where is it?

Advantages: Sun,Sea,sand & surfing, & much, much more.
Disadvantages: Occassionally everything disappears under the sea mist.

...Everyone knows Cornwall, but often when on my travels, I mention that I now live in Bude, and many people say, "Bude, where's that?" However, judging by the amount of visitors throughout the summer months, many people already know. Our little streets are full to the brim with holidaymakers, cars, coaches and hikers. To those of you who do not know of its existance, maybe I should keep it a secret. But I won't! You will love Bude once that you have found it, and of course the surrounding near-by villages.. We are on the borders of Devon, in North Cornwall. With the atlantic coast from Lands-End to Bude. But please, if you come to visit, try to avoid the 6 long school holiday weeks. The Spring & Autumn are beautiful too. Although if you are a family, your children will love it in the holidays, with many other children...

A real hidden gem!

Advantages: Great food, very well priced, great service

...On our trip to Bude Mr Tart and myself were searching for somewhere to eat on the Friday evening. We were saving our ?posh? meal for the Saturday night and just wanted somewhere decent and reasonable for the Friday. We found that Bude does not over-run with restaurants. In fact, in the whole town, we found 3 pubs and an eastern restaurant. The pubs looked and smelt fairly horrible and the eastern restaurant (which looked lovely) couldn?t seat us until late. I?m sure Bude has other restaurants but they were certainly hiding well that night! We were despairing when we wandered down a side road and came across Coasters ? and it turned out to be the best place we could have gone. LOCATION: Coasters is at 2 Belle View Avenue. Delightful stay at Dylan's

...For his birthday I got Mr Tart a trip to Cornwall so that we could go surfing. I?d never been to Cornwall before so I did a fair bit of research about the best places to surf (I?d never done it before and he?s a beginner) and came up with Bude, especially as it was one of the closer places in Cornwall for us to get to. I was looking for a reasonably priced guesthouse for us to stay in and came across Dylan's. LOCATION: Dylan's is located on Down?s View Road in Bude. It is about 5 minutes away from the town centre and the beach. Bude itself is in North Cornwall. It took us about 3 hours to get there from Bristol. There is no parking for the guesthouse itself but there is plenty of parking on the road. PRICES: Prices for Dylan's vary according to season and which room you have. I think that there are six rooms altogether...

Camping, The Manor and GCHQ

Advantages: Good surf, good food, good local crew
Disadvantages: Gets blown out, not much to do when it gets flat

...I managed to live (and I use the word live loosely) in Bude for six months or so back in 1994. The town is nothing like Newquay, so don`t expect lots of night life and drunk people wandering around. There are good pubs like the Carriers Arms in the Town and the Manor at Widemouth (pronounced WID MOUTH not WIDE MOUTH), but they only get going at the weekend when everybody comes out to play. As far as surfing goes there are a good collection of beaches within the Bude area but firstly you will need a car as they are spread out, and secondly you will need patience. Bude faces west and so does all of its beaches, if the wind is South Westerly, which it nearly always is, the surf gets blown out very easily. Anyhow that caveat aside there are a lot of great places to surf. Starting with North Bude there is a beach called Sandy...

A restaurant with rooms

Advantages: The Food
Disadvantages: Not inexpensive

...The Falcon Hotel is one of Cornwall's oldest coaching inns. It is not the cheapest place to stay, 2006 prices were £52.50 per person (off peak) per night B & B. The hotel has a website which contains information on the hotel, tariff etc (www.falconhotel.com). The hotel is sited in a prime location for the centre of Bude, there is a Pub next door to the hotel. When we stayed in the hotel there was no particular noise from next door. The Beach is a three minute walk away Our stay at the Falcon was enjoyable. It is true to say that it is a nice hotel. At first sight the hotel accomodation is priced on the slightly expensive side. That said the room we stayed in was spotlessly clean, recently refurbished. The sort of room one would expect a good 3* hotel to offer. Beautiful

Advantages: Plenty for everyone
Disadvantages: Overcrowded roads in the summer

...I love Cornwall and it is an easy day trip for me living in Devon. There are quaint fishing villages as in Looe and Polpero, the magic of history in Tintagel when you can imagine King Arthur and his knights, Truro is excellant for shopping and has a wonderful cathedral, then of course there is surfing, especially on the north coast, for the more active, espcially around the Bude and Newquay areas. Whether you want peace and quiet or an active nightlife Cornwall will suit you. There is plenty for children to enjoy, from pleasure parks, the Zoo at Newquay or a donkey sanctuary and of course there is always the traditional Cornish Pastie to be tasted....

Hartland Forest Golf and NO Leisure Parc

Advantages: In the middle of nowhere
Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere with no facilities!

...Unfortunately this was not an experience of a lifetime. It may be we chose the wrong year. 2008! The park is described as Hartland Forest Golf and Leisure Parc, however there were no signs of leisure to be seen anywhere. There was a A4 sign pinned to a derelict room stating the bar is closed for 2008 and another sign on the golf club house asking people not to enquire with regards to the leisure facilities at the parc. All in all not a welcoming prospect. The site is extremely remote and you are 2 miles to the nearest public house (along a remote single lane track) and 8 miles from any other leisure facilities. For a supermarket you haver to travel to Bude or Bideford. The accommodation although nice and roomy with all necessary equipment smelt damp throughout our stay, probably not helped by the damp summer. The site has closed during...

Crackington Haven = Haven

Advantages: Lovely beach, view and walk

...Location: Crackington Haven is located near Bude Cornwall, it's pretty easy to get to! I'm a beach lover, who loves the sea, sun bathing and walking along the Cliffside and for me Crackington haven's got it all. I love walking out and walking right to the top of the second cliff, it's amazing up there, it as you have a pretty much 360 degree view of the sea. You can also see where the side of a part of a cliff on the other side of the beach has started to erode away, and you can notice the lines in the rock. The wind blowing on you whilst your standing up there makes you feel amazing, but be careful! My dog also loves the Cliffside walk, finding every bramble/prickly bush to go in and always looking out for wildlife. Last time I was there we also spotted two wild deer walking along the cliff, which only added to the lovely sea view...

Tintagel - take a step back in time and enjoy the scenery

...used more as a display of wealth and power rather than as having any real military significance. It is a small village and parking is restricted, but it is definitely a place that I would like to visit again. This is most certainly an area for exploration and you need to be willing to do a lot of walking. Our journey whilst we are on holiday in Bude led us to travel along the A39, and through the village of Boscastle which again was very scenic and worth a visit. It is quite a windy road, but it is well worth the trip....
