Tango Argentina in BA
Review of Buenos Aires by
notthesailingclub
Advantages: Lively city, Good restaurants and bars, plenty to see
Disadvantages: Hold onto your hats when taking a cab!
...If travelling within South America or if you need to visit Argentina, then a stop in Buenos Aires should definitely be on your itinerary.
This vibrant city has the look and feel of a Spanish city though retains its sense of South American location.
Culturally and socially, the city embraces all walks of life. From the hard-headed business district and its Hotels such as the obligatory Inter Continental with (frequently Texan oil tycoons) to the bustle of the Boca, Buenos Aires caters for all.
The architecture of the Recoleta area as one would expect from this opulent area is fantastic. The layout of the buildings and the parks planned to perfection. It is here in the cemetery that Eva Peron has her shrine.
On the other side of the city near the bustling port on the banks of the River Plate is La Boca. This plays host...

BA Uncovered
Review of Buenos Aires by
GeordieSteve
Advantages: The People, Atmosphere, Gateway to South America, Partying
Disadvantages: Distance, Expense
...The flight to Buenos Aires, into Ezeiza Airport, is a long one from the UK, however due to the +3 to +4 hour time difference the timing of most of the major airlines is very convenient. For example British Airways leaves at around 10pm and lands in Buenos Aires at 7am the next day five days a week.
There are numerous taxis available outside the airport, with the journey into the centre of BA taking around 40 minutes and costing around $30.
To many Argentines, their capital city is synonymous with the country itself, and indeed 40% of the population live in the city's massive, sprawling suburbs. Buenos Aires is situated on the banks of the Río de la Plata in the Federal Capital district, and not, as one would expect, in Buenos Aires province. Unlike most South American cities, whose architectural styles reveal a strong Spanish colonial...

Review of Kinder Bueno by
karimkha
Advantages: all in one bar
Disadvantages: not enogh chocolate
...be confused about the name and where did it come from so there is a bit of history :
Kinder Bueno is a chocolate bar from Ferrero. It is a hazelnut cream filled waffle with a chocolate covering. Kinder Bueno originally comes from Italy, where it debuted in 1990. It became available in Latin America (Brazil, Argentina and Mexico) and Greece in the mid-1990s, in Germany and France starting in 1999, and has been common in Canada and the United Kingdom since 2004. A few stores in the U.S. carry it, but because of its rarity, it can be very expensive. Kinder Bueno is only sold in packs of two and six.
In 2007, Kinder Bueno was relaunched aimed at an adolescent market with a new commercial, aired in the UK and Ireland.
Bueno is the Spanish word for "good."
Kinder is the German word for "children."
PACKAGING
the outer wrapper is white and orange...

Comfort in Buenos Aires
Review of Park Central Kempinski Hotel, Buenos Aires by
honey000
Advantages: Friendly staff, clean rooms
Disadvantages: Small lift, awful scrambled eggs
...The Kempinski Hotel is ideally located in the centre of Buenos Aires. You are within walking distance of numerous cafes, restaurants, shops, the metro, bus stops and many of the main attractions.
It is a small boutique hotel with friendly, competent staff who are happy to help you out.
We stayed in the hotel for 6 nights and were very happy with the place.
The hotel, is like many others in BA tall and narrow - the lifts barely fit two people, so let the porter take your suitcases up to your room - it is far easier than getting stuck doing it yourself.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable - you get a sofa and an en-suite as well as a huge double bed. The room is air conditioned - a must in summer as it is so hot outside.
There is cable TV with lots of random English speaking channels - so you can watch movies in English - great...

The beautiful city of the dead.
Review of Cemetery of the Recoleta, Buenos Aires by
mimi_solei
Advantages: Beautiful cemetery. Key place to visit in Buenos Aires
Disadvantages: Not great if you do not like Cemeteries. Public transport access is not great
...No visit to Buenos Aires would be complete without a trip to the famous Cemetery of Recoleta.
Background about the district ('barrio') of Recoleta
In the 1870's, a yellow-fever epidemic sent many of the cities elite from their comfortable lodgings of San Telmo to this neighborhood. As a result, Recoleta prospered and is now considered the 'mayfair' of Buenos Aires.
The Cemetery is the home of a serveral famous Argentines, the most notable Eva Peron (or Evita).
The historic cemetery is adorned with statues that complement the beautiful mausoleums created in a wide variety of architectural styles. The entire cemetery is laid out in sections like city blocks, with wide tree-lined walkways branching into smaller "streets" filled with mausoleums.
IMPRESSION: The day I visited the cemetery, it was a clear sunning winter afternoon...

Beware the Mixed Grill!
Review of Buenos Aires by
andyandyandy
Advantages: All the meat you can eat
Disadvantages: Cloting and electrical goods on the expensive side
...Buenos Aires is a shoppers paradise, there are streets and streets full of shops with little of the repetitive chain store influences we are so used to at home. There's even a Harrods department store, even if it's not quite the same thing. Womens clothing seems to be the major theme, which whilst expensive is unlikely to find you in the same dress as the bosses wife at dinner.
The Argentinians like to eat late, go to a restaurant for dinner at 8 and you'll have the place to yourself. By the time you're settling the bill at 10 the place will be starting to fill up and sitting down for a big meal at midnight is not unusual. There is a wealth of restaurants in the city, but be sure to try one of the large Barbeque type places which feature a large charcoal bonfire surrounded by racks of roasting meat in the window. Therein lies...

Restaurants and Nightclubs in Buenos Aires
Review of Buenos Aires by
mreservado
Advantages: The best meat in the world!
Disadvantages: You may need a laxative after all that red meat!
...Restaurants in Buenos Aires.
If you go to Argentina, you know that the word vegetarian is unknown in there. so lets face it, you must try meat, so taste, so mmmmm...
so here are a few tips, if you are near Recoleta visiting Evita's (Eva Peron) grave you can walk along Junin Street where you can find a finest option of food, so instead of choosing the sports cafe, or the Henry j. beans ( yes! Argentina got them too!) You can give it a try in Cabaña Las Lilas restaurant. It is posh and not for a low budget (17 pounds per persons not wine incl.)However, you have to treat yourself in a place like this! The specialty is tenderloin that in spanish is lomo, but don't worry, the menu is in english too.
But what happen if you are visiting the docks? Ah! Here you can can invite yourself to Hereford and try their taste ribs (asado...

The oldest cafe in the Paris of South America
Review of Cafe Tortoni, Buenos Aires by
mimi_solei
Advantages: Good food, lots of history, lovely setting, easy access
Disadvantages: Very touristy. Food quality a bit inconsistent for the price
...This has to be one of the must-go places in Buenos Aires. I went to it on my last day and I have to say that it did not disappoint. There are lots of things that make this an easy, ideal and interesting restaurant/cafe to visit.
GETTING THERE: Located on Avenida de Mayo 825 between the streets of Tacuari and Piedras. This beautiful cafe is easily accessible from the subte (underground) stations of both 'Plaza Mayo' and 'Av. de 9 Julio'. It's location make it perfect as a lunch stop following sight seeing in La Boca, San Telmo or around Plaza Mayo. If you are further afield, take the subte or any of the numerous buses thatl pass it- just ask locals,as listing all of them would take all day.
HISTORY: Established in 1858, Cafe Tortoni is the oldest cafe in Buenos Aires. There are many reasons to visit and one of them is the fact...

"I will return and I will be millions."
Review of Recoleta, Buenos Aires by
VC81
Advantages: a fabulous district to visit
Disadvantages: all tourists agree
...Buenos Aires is a chic cosmopolitan city that bristles with sensual elegance - a place of smoke-filled tango halls, wide leafy boulevards and street art of a myriad of genres. The city is divided into districts, or barrios, each with an individual style and character. One of the most popular barrios for visitors is exclusive Recoleta, a thoroughly well-heeled area which fronts onto the Rio Plata.
Porteños, the residents of Buenos Aires, seem to have three great passions in life - tango, football and Evita, and it is in this district, in the vast Recoleta Cemetery, that the remains of Eva Peron found their final resting place. For many people Evita is the only reason to visit Recoleta, for some the only reason to visit Buenos Aries. The popularity of this remarkable lady, still intense a half century after her death, has made...

be gentle with me
Review of Kinder Bueno by
jammy_banana
Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: very delicate
...I have been eating kinder buenos for several years. They are without a doubt my favourite snack, in fact it would be safe to say that I am obsessed with them. I was surfing the internet looking for information about them when I stumbled across ciao so it seems only fitting that my first op should be about the kinder bueno.
Kinder Bueno can be either bought singly or in multipacks of three or four (I believe that the three bar multipack is to be phased out). Each Kinder Bueno is comprised of two individually wrapped fingers, which are themselves wrapped in an outer white and red plastic wrapper.
Breaking into a Kinder Bueno can be quite an awkward affair due to all the packaging. For this reason I would not recommend them as a snack to grab while you are on the move or in a hurry as you will have to find somewhere to put all...
