250GB Beast!

Advantages: 250GB of internal memory!! At a reasonable price, too!
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages. Not as quiet as I believed it would be.

...I purchased this drive as an upgrade of my Acer Aspire laptop's 60GB 2.5" internal hard drive, and so far I have been delighted with it! The reason I chose this drive in particular, was due to the fact that it is an ATA drive (not SATA). ATA is the older drive technology, and as my Acer laptop is a few years old, it unfortunately does not support the more recent (and higher capacity) SATA internal drives. SATA drives are far more widespread now and are a bit easier and cheaper to find than the older ATA drives, but if you have an older laptop model, you will probably have to buy an ATA drive such as this one. After searching high and low, this 250GB drive from Western Digital was the highest capacity ATA internal drive I could find at a reasonable price, and so far it has not let me down! It took a bit of effort to clone my...

My Book 250Gb

Advantages: stying,price,reliability
Disadvantages: storage may not be enough for some people,FAT32 format from factory

...I suppose i bought this hard drive about a year ago. I chose it because it was reasonably priced,it had good capacity and it looked plain, simple but also stylish. I think i paid about £75 as i bought it on a trip to the states. I initially needed it to cope with my growing collection of MP3's that my 80Gb laptop drive was trying to deal with. Upon getting it home ease of installation was simple. Its pretty much a case of unpacking it,plugging the power cable in,plugging the USB cable in and hey prestowindows automatically recognizes it and you've got an additional 250Gb of hard drive space. The package comes with the hard drive, usb cable, power cable and a quick install guide although you dont really need it. The drive comes with built in drive management which means it both turns on and off with your computer which is very...

Pika 250GB External Hard Drive

Advantages: Very compact, easy to store, very easy to install
Disadvantages: Heavier than you'd think.

...and drop files into it. All files move quickly whether they're going from the Pika hard drive or to it. Best of all, it provides me with an extra 250GB of much-needed storage....

WD SE16 250GB

Advantages: Fast, Large Storage, Cheap, Clever, Reliable, Easy install
Disadvantages: n/a

...helps this drive compeet with faster drives (WD raptor 10krpm) but for around £50-60 knock 2 of them in Raid-0 and you will most likely have a very large, very fast drive setup for £40-50 less than a faster drive! I would suggest if you're in the market for a large, reliable, quitet drive you realy do need to look at Western Digital's 250GB SE16 Drive as this drive ranks at the top of the hard drive food chain, and is industry standard coming from WD who are renowned for their quality and the life span of their products. Western digital SE (special edition) is another way of stating that this drive has 16mb of cache instead of the usual 8mb (overall faster performance for sustained use, ie network storage) The drive spins at 7.200RPM (rotations per minute) which is usualy classed as the norm for higher end hard drives, where as...

Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB 2.5-inch Hard-Drive

Advantages: 250GB Lots of memory, Low power consumption, Cheap
Disadvantages: 2.5-inch limits it to USUALLY Laptops but can be used in desktop computers

...Fairly decent hard-drive. Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a real bargin! I really recommend this hard-drive, the real-time data protection will help if your computer ever shuts off. It is also a 2.5-inch hard-drive which usually associates with laptops, however there are some desktop computers which could use this. If you did want to buy this for a desktop computer but your computer could only use 3.5-inch then you could buy an external hard-drive shell which could plug straight into your computer OR laptop through USB or Firewire. Overall I think this is a very nice hard-drive and a good bargin at the price it's avaliable for....

250Gb for less than £100

Advantages: Value for money, Looks, capacity
Disadvantages: Scratches, Rubber feet fall off, NO aftersales support (worth mentioning)

...LaCie have obviously marketed this external drive at the people who want both a functional computer system and a good-looking one. The drive has been designed with F. A. Porsche and has a nice minimalist look to it, a metallic grey case with all most mirrored front the drive looks great, even better when stacked with another one. With only one LED on the front your not left with loads of bright lights flashing at you when your trying to keep the room dark when playing games or movies. The drive is also very quiet to the point where you need to look at the light to ensure its still on. LaCie have released the drive in a range of sizes with a range of connection such as USB and Firewire so whatever your need you should be able to find a drive to suit. I personally purchased the 250GB as it was both the largest and best value...

Iomega HDD External Hard Drive 250 GB

Advantages: 250GB capacity, 2 firewire port, 1 usb ports
Disadvantages: alittle bit expensive

...Hello again and welcome to Chan's new toys! Just had a box delieverd to my home 2 weeks ago which i hadn't ordered, someone at work had given me new hardware to help with a task I've got to do. How well people know me, give me new harware to play with and i'll do any work they want! Anyway, opening up my jiffy bag I find a box with Media Centre writen in big black letters. MY first thought is what on earth is a media centre??? The box seemed a bit small for a TV and DVD player, let alone surround sound, so i decided that putting on my glasses so i could focus on the box was probably a good idea. It turns out a media centre is a rather large USB and firewire hard drive, with a few extras thrown in to make it look special. What you get is a 250Gb drive, 2 firewire ports, 1 usb port to go to your machine and 2 usb ports to connect...

XIMETA NetDisk NDU10-250 250 GB

Advantages: Super simple data/File sharing across a home network
Disadvantages: Can't really think of any, that's why I bought another one !

..., Width 4.7 in / 119.5mm, Weight 3 lbs / 1.36 kg) I now can confirm that it's also possible to add multiple NetDisk's to your network - up to a total disk space of 1.6 terabytes (!) - and I've not noticed any change in the access speed with 2 devices connected to the network. There's also software included for "asynchronous mirroring" (RAID1) for data protection that continuously creates and saves a copy of data in real time onto a second NetDisk whenever data is written to the first NetDisk ! Alternatively "aggregation" allows two NetDisk units to be recognized as one large drive. I have to admit that I've not yet tried this now I have 2 NetDisk's, but will let you know if I do. Watch this space... Overall, this is another great item and a very valuable component of my home network, especialy with a massive 250GB of storage space...

buffalo springfield debut

Advantages: some great songs, great lyrics
Disadvantages: neil young only sings a few tracks

...buffalo springfield is the debut album from the rock and roll hall of famers, featuring folk rock giants stephen stills and neil young. this album features an ecletic mix of 12 tracks including the famous 'for what its worth'. the rest of the songs are perhaps not as instantly recognisable but in general the quality of the songs is very good. there is a good mix between laid back folk-rock such as 'hot dusty roads', 'out of my mind' and 'do i have to come right out and say it' to the frenetic blues of 'leave' and everything in between. lyrically this album is very good as all the songs are either stills or young originals and the musicianship is very solid if not groundbreaking. stephen stills exerts the most influence on this album, taking lead vocals or lead guitar on the majority of tracks. Neil young only has a couple of songs...

250GB Black Box for your PC

Advantages: Very Stylish, Great Value, and Quiet. A USB hard drive for backups or storage
Disadvantages: A Little on the large side and another mains cable.

...I bought one of these boxes to back up my laptop and paid £80 ish. It did exactly what the advertising said. Just plug in the power cable and connect using the USB cable to your computer and you have an additional drive with a 250gb capacity. Fantastic. The high speed USB performed exceptionally when backing up my Laptop with a total backup (using ntbackup) completing in a fraction of the time taken when using a network drive. I then moved on to use this drive to transfer some static data from a old file server which this drive makes redundant. I am now looking at the DVD's that I use on a regular basis, and considering releasing even more deskspace. In the box I got the drive, Power adaptor and mains cable (both 3 pin and 2 pin), USB cable (2m) and a few bits of paper. Setup, as described was a breeze. All Windows machines...
