Toshiba 1TB Desktop Hard Drive (USB)

Advantages: Value for money, massive storage, great design, decent speeds!
Disadvantages: Bright flasing blue/red/purple light on the front.

...My laptop is fairly old but has served me very well (it's a Toshiba incidentaly) , it has about 27GB of storage space which nowdays isn't enough for all my work as well as movies and music. I decided to look at some external hard drives so I could store everything that I wanted and more. This particular model appealed to me, not just because it was the cheapest, but because it had very good specs (1TB of storage to say the least) and was a Toshiba. A very good brand that I trust. So I forked out the cash and had it delivered to my door. Opening the box, I saw that it was slightly longer but overall smaller than it had apeared online. Review of Toshiba Hard drive 1 TB

The Maxtor Basics 1 TB looks amazing and is very user friendly.

Advantages: Huge storage space, Looks beautiful, Very easy to install and use, Loads videos very quickly.
Disadvantages: None really.

Capacity Having 1 TB of space means that most will struggle to fill it, even after having it for three months and constantly putting large video files and music albums onto it I have yet to fill a third of it. My average music album is 50MB, so therefore on the Maxtor 1 TB I could fit?20,000 albums on the hard drive, which is an incredible amount. ...This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 1TB should keep me going for several years and more. I bought this hard drive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy. Design The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around due to its size. Advantages: Capacity, looks, decent manual, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit slow, a lot to lose in one go

...With people starting to amass more and more data on their PCs, the old methods of backup such as tape or CD & DVD are becoming woefully inadequate. As a result, by far the most cost efficient method for either storing data or backing it up is the external hard drive. That said, 1TB or 1 Terrabyte is a crazy amount of space and the sort of storage that would have kept a multinational company ticking over nicely ten years ago. The LaCie (pronounced Lassie, like the dog) 1TB unit is a reasonably basic device that only has a USB2 (although USB1 is supported) interface and comes with a suitable lead, external power supply and software CD. Freecom 1TB External Hard Drive

Advantages: Simple Setup, great value for money
Disadvantages: Win 2000/XP/Vista only - not for Win 98/ME

A big box of data outside of my PC

Advantages: fast, high capacity, looks good, reliable, easy to use
Disadvantages: it makes my other drives look bad

...There comes a time when you need to get an external hard drive, after all there is a limit to how many internal ones you can attach to a motherboard (varies, normally about 3). I personally use a lot of drive space, going into the terabytes, so every now and then I have to attach a new external HD. This time I bought this one, and I am quite happy with it. An important feature that the DriveStation fulfills is that it looks nice. Its more important than manufacturers often think, as first impressions are often lasting impressions - and the first impression I got from this was professional and ruthlessly efficient. The 500GB is generous considering it only cost me £100 or so, which is pretty damn good for external drives. 500GB will last me a good couple of months, then I reckon I will go and buy myself another of these beasts...
