A big box of data outside of my PC
Advantages: fast, high capacity, looks good, reliable, easy to use
Disadvantages: it makes my other drives look bad
...There comes a time when you need to get an external hard drive, after all there is a limit to how many internal ones you can attach to a motherboard (varies, normally about 3).
I personally use a lot of drive space, going into the terabytes, so every now and then I have to attach a new external HD. This time I bought this one, and I am quite happy with it.
An important feature that the DriveStation fulfills is that it looks nice. Its more important than manufacturers often think, as first impressions are often lasting impressions - and the first impression I got from this was professional and ruthlessly efficient.
The 500GB is generous considering it only cost me £100 or so, which is pretty damn good for external drives. 500GB will last me a good couple of months, then I reckon I will go and buy myself another of these beasts...

Maxtor 500GB EXTERNAL
Advantages: Maximizes the amount of data vs the cost of the product
Disadvantages: heat issues, cord connectivity, and small installation problems.
...Some people call me ignorant for using Maxtor, but I honestly only order Maxtor for my hard drives. Now the only downside to the Maxtor 500 GB is that it is an external drive that, if not careful, can overheat and cause connectivity problems, transfer speed issues, or just annoyance from when the usb gets knocked out. That being said, if you can get past the downside of have an external I would recommend this product to anyone not using a Mac. The only reason I do not recommend this to Mac owners is because Mac is the only type of computer that I myself will not touch. I have filled this thing up to about half it potential and when I do manage to full it up, I will write agian to let you know the outcome....

500GB External HDD Reviewed by the Geek !
Advantages: Portability, 500GB storage, Speed, Reliability, Warranty
Disadvantages: Slightly strange brown colour
...very easy to have the drive run from a different PC if I wanted to.
The offer with DABS was actually very good, in that the cost of the drive was going to be less than that for an internal 500GB SATAII drive, bargain !
I placed the order ( and I have to say, was very happy with the ordering / delivery process ) and I received the drive within 2 days.
Once received, you can see that the product is very well packaged ( which is something I am very keen on, it shows that the product will be well protected during transport - not very good for us Eco-Friendly people, but the majority of packaging was cardboard containers, so its all recyclable - which is a plus )
Once you open up the box, (which also has a security seal on to show whether its been tampered with - which is also good ) you see the following

Seagate FreeAgent 500GB USB 2.0
Advantages: Hi-Speed, Sturdyness, Look, Performace, Reliability, Silent
Disadvantages: None in General. When being specific no On/Off Button
...Seagate FreeAgent 500GB USB2.0 External Storage Drive
Bought this as a backup drive for my data and to play hi-definition movies using PS3 and it serves its purpose very well.
Fully compatible with Hi-Speed USB( USB 2.0) with speed of 480 Mbps. I was able to transfer 7.95 GB Blu-Ray movie in just 6 minutes.
It also has 8MB Cache for fast data transfer
A 7200 RPM Hard-disk is used and is completely noiseless. Front Light ( Long Bar shaped, Looks Nice :-) ) indicates read/write process.
Drive is powered on only when connected to usb irrespective its adaptor is switched on. This is a great feature.
Perfectly shaped and compact, light and very sturdy.
Disadvantage
Would be better if it had no external adaptor. Its slim though.
No On/Off switch.
Only 475 GB usable space. ( Not a "con" but wanted to...

Western Digital My book 500GB hard drive
Advantages: small, lots of storage and really reliable
Disadvantages: less portable than a small form hard disk drive, needs main to use
...This is my second hard drive. The first one I bought was a sony vaio that I bought off of ebay - a portable 120GB hard disk drive from the far east. It started giving me disk read and write errors about three to four months after I bought it. Moral of the story, buy from a reputable manufacturer and seller.
So I bought this from Amazon co uk, who are by far a superior online seller. Prices have come down and i managed to get this for £60 including free delivery. The drive is compact, not portable.
It needs to be plugged into mains as well as the computer which makes it less portable, but it is so quiet I can't even hear that is switched on even when it is writing or reading. I would highly recommend this product or even one of the bigger sized ones, though I couldn't afford the 1TB mybook.
Remember 500GB is marketing...

Freecom 500 GB External HD Review
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, big capacity & amazing value for money!
Disadvantages: Doesn't look like it would take too many heavey knocks
...This is a pretty standard USB HD but with a whopping 500GB for under £100 it is amazing value for money. So far I've had no problems with it. I run mostly audio/graphics from it (which is very demanding). This HD has no problems dealing with the big files I Use, providing an excellent transfer rate. It is pretty quiet, the only noise it ever makes is a slight hum! I carry this every where I go with my laptop, it's taken a few knocks and survived OK, but I wouldn't want to test it too much, as the case doesn't look like it would protect the drive too well! The design is pretty funky and its size isn't too big either! I've had big portable drives before which were a pain to transport! this fits into my laptop bag perfectly! This drive is well worth the buy....

My Book Premium 500GB - Recommended
Advantages: Simple setup, Quiet, Small size, large capacity
Disadvantages: none
...SUMMARY
The Western Digital (WD) My Book Premium 500GB is a small, well built external hard drive which is quiet in operation, with excellent capacity and choice of USB 2 or Firewire connectivity. As someone who is interested in technology, photography and video editing, I often end up running low on storage space on my PC. I had been looking to get another hard drive for some time and had seen the WD advertised in a magazine at a reasonable price. I bought mine from an online retailer and as of March 2006 have been using it for 3 months and I have not experienced any problems with it.
FEATURES
Well without wanting to make it sound as though it's not a good product, because I think it is, there's not much to it, it's just an external hard drive, however it is stylish and feels well built. It is quiet as there is noisy fan, but it...

MyBook 500gb - Very Good but One Slight Niggle
Advantages: Fast, Easy to Install, Quite cheap.
Disadvantages: Slightly Noisy
...I received this hard drive for Christmas last year and I've been using it as a time machine for my MacBook.
It sits in my bookshelf about 45cm away from my laptop, and in my opinion it looks quite nice between hardback books.
When I plug it in there is no waiting for it to 'warm up' like there was with my old external hard drive.
500gb is enough for backing up my whole laptop, and for Mac users it is great for Time
Machine, because there is easily enough space for backing up everything you delete.
It was very easy to set up, I just literally plugged it into my Mac and it asked me if I wanted to use it for Time Machine, and it immediately started backing up. For Windows users it is just as easy, you just plug it in and it recognises it, no drivers needed.
The only problem I have with it is that when it backs up, especially when...

Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB
Advantages: cheap - all that it is
Disadvantages: poor structure, prone to overheating, not reliable
...Out shopping for a new external hard drive the Seagate FreeAgent Desktop caught my eye. It looked appealing with a massive 500GBs and 5 year limited warrenty as standard. I thought it was great value for money.
The dimensions are (WxDxH) 4 cm x 16.2 cm x 19 cm and it is 0.9kg in weight.
This product is black in colour with a yellow strip of light which is constantly on, though it isn't too bright so i had no problems there. It's Interface Type is Hi-Speed USB and has a Data Transfer Rate of 480 Mbps. Also has a Spindle Speed of 7200 rpm.
These are also compatible with the following -
OS Required Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Apple MacOS X 10.3.9 or later, Microsoft Windows Vista, Apple MacOS X 10.4.6 or later
This all sounded promising.
After getting home...

buffalo springfield debut
Advantages: some great songs, great lyrics
Disadvantages: neil young only sings a few tracks
...buffalo springfield is the debut album from the rock and roll hall of famers, featuring folk rock giants stephen stills and neil young.
this album features an ecletic mix of 12 tracks including the famous 'for what its worth'. the rest of the songs are perhaps not as instantly recognisable but in general the quality of the songs is very good. there is a good mix between laid back folk-rock such as 'hot dusty roads', 'out of my mind' and 'do i have to come right out and say it' to the frenetic blues of 'leave' and everything in between.
lyrically this album is very good as all the songs are either stills or young originals and the musicianship is very solid if not groundbreaking. stephen stills exerts the most influence on this album, taking lead vocals or lead guitar on the majority of tracks. Neil young only has a couple of songs...
