Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router - a real buffalo?

Advantages: Reasonable price, easy to use, lots of advanced settings
Disadvantages: installation firewall issue, signal strengh only reasonable

...I bought this router from a local Argos shop at an emergency situation i.e. I want it now and therefore not at the best price - 49.99. Reason: My all singing and all dancing Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router had lost its main function, 'internet connectivity' after a month or so of continuous use (see my other review, now updated, for details). All is left is wireless communication i.e. useless. The return of this router back to Amazon caused me a week (lots of emails + recorded delivery + check that the refund includes the recorded delivery etc) For Argos, there is an obvious advantage - if there is something wrong with it, I just take it back for a refund/replacement on the same day. This router comes with detail instructions (step-by-step) for installation however it does not cater for the presence of a firewall...

Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine

...and I generally get good download and upload speeds despite this anyway. Only thing is, transferring files within the network isn?t as fast as I?d like from my laptop. This router does boast it has the ?Best? speed and coverage as opposed to the lower end routers in the range which only give you ?Good? or ?Better? speed and coverage so the lower speed on my laptop may be due to some sort of incompatibility. Wireless range is good though as I can get at least a good signal around the house. Don?t know what the maximum speed is for this router but I?m guessing 300Mbits? Compared to the router that came with my broadband with BE, web pages do seem to download quicker. Wireless aside, the router also has four Ethernet ports so you could plug PCs and network devices in directly should that be convenient as wired connections are always more...

...not want to turn this review into a Hi-Fi manual! The network name can be hidden and you can restrict router access to computers listed in the wireless client list. The ability to specify either an open system or shared key for authentication. These are the options I have tweaked and I believe this should prevent basic hacking of my wireless broadband router. The initial setup was easy once the brain was engaged. Do not do anything other than insert the CD, all the setting up is covered from connecting the power to the ethernet cables. One tip though is to go online via your broadband modem prior to starting the setup. This will ensure that any snags that may arise are due to the subsequent installation.
