Lakeland Bulk Yogurt/Yoghurt Maker

..., After reading this review, I was in two minds as to whether to buy the flask type yoghurt maker ( easi yo or similar) or the Lakeland electric Bulk Yoghurt maker. I didn't want to be stuck with having to buy sachets in order to create yoghurt, but I also wanted foolproof results. Initially you need about 3 teaspoons of live bought yoghurt - I used Tesco own bio yoghurt, once you have your yoghurt on the go you save a few teaspoons to start the next one, add longlife milk at room temperature ( and I add some dried milk - explained later), swith on - eight hours later switch off, cool then refridgerate - I'm told it will last for five days but it never stays that long! Advantages: Makes wonderful, sweet yoghurt , there's no faffing around and it's cheap!
Disadvantages: You really need to have it permanently on the go, there aren't any recipes, the flex is a pain and the container is hard to fit in the fridge.

Advantages: Produces excellent yoghurt very cheaply.
Disadvantages: Container is difficult to clean and harder to fit in the fridge.

A couple of months ago I discovered the Lakeland Bulk Yoghurt Maker and this seemed like the answer to my prayers. Costing £18.95 it makes up to a litre of yoghurt in a self-contained unit. All you need is the milk, some fresh, natural yoghurt and a power supply. You'll need about nine hours to complete the process too. The unit came in a simple cardboard box with no superfluous packaging. There's an instruction leaflet there too. It contains all the information you'll need to get started, but I think the layout could be improved. There's no way of locating particular information, such as all the ingredients you'll need, quickly. The information is in a strange order too. The first page covers little else but...

Bulk Buy only 6 or more books

Advantages: good prices for bulk buy and easy to use site, excellent customer service!
Disadvantages: Poor prices if buying individual items

...Bulk buying on Amazon is highly recommended, but dont go buying individual items. The pricing on the site is actually fairly confusing at times, but once you get used to it it is ok. They charge you for the books, which are usually much lower than the average UK high street price. Unfortunately they don't add postage and packaging until the end, so remember to budget for it. They charge a flat rate of £2.75 for your basic package plus 59p per book. This means that the more books you buy the better. Buying one book (owing to postage and packaging) can be rather expensive, but if you buy 6 or more (I used an estimate based on my experiences there!) books then you will find the overall cost drops below the high street prices - and the more you buy, the more you save!!!! However, where Yahoo! infringe on my life is with their cunning Bulk Mail folder. What they have done is go to the Spam broadcasters and say, "ok guys, pay us a load of cash and we wont block the spam, we'll actually encourage it and help it get through. What we will do is create a folder in all our users inboxes called "Bulk Mail". Spam will be routed there rather than us trying to fight it off and after a month, we will automatically delete it if the user hasn't read it. By the way, pay us a bit more and we will tell you if the user has read it, how long they kept it in their folder, whether or not they moved it to their main inbox etc. We'll even supply you...

Bulk means cheap!

Advantages: Bulk no frills goods which keeps it cheap, several times cheaper than say Maximuscle.
Disadvantages: You could never know for certain if the goods are 100% pure.

I decided to buy a spindle tub containing 25 of these to see how good they were, the cost was £12.27 from an online company called SVP Communications and that price seemed to be about the average on two or three other sites. Two days later the tub arrived, it was shrink wrapped and well protected with foam disks to the top and bottom of the DVD-R stack.
