Zagreb's colourful market

Advantages: Fascinating, colourful, might get to sample some Croatian foods, shop for a picnic
Disadvantages: Can't buy some things if you're in a hotel

...Dolac is Zagreb?s very colourful central fresh produce market. It is situated in the area just behind Trg Bana Jelacic and you can access it though a small lane where you see the flower market start. The market was opened in 1930, having been built on the site of a slum clearance; it was agreed by the city's bigwigs that the houses there were not a fitting sight for visitors to a capital city and so they were duly demolished. I was delighted to read that in his speech at the opening of the market, the mayor of Zagreb Dr. Stjepan Srkulj said "?During my visit to Holland this year, ladies and gentlemen, I can honestly say that I did not see a market that was as nice as this...? - and, you know, it is rather special. Beyond the flower market you can either climb the stone steps to the market proper or go into the main indoor section...

NASTY BUSINESS!

Advantages: Compelling reading
Disadvantages: Some similarities to other novels by the author, strong language may offend some.

...Review of The Business, a hardback novel by Martina Cole The Business is Martina Cole's latest offering in a long line of best selling novels set against a backdrop of London's criminal underworld. For those unfamiliar with Ms Cole's books, she writes of subjects unsavoury, seedy and at times, uncomfortable. Nothing is taboo to Ms Cole and The Business covers violence, murder, prostitution, drug addiction, child abuse and neglect . Her writing style is gritty and she produces novels that are hauntingly readable. Readers are under no illusions about her characters and their lifestyles, a peep into a world very different from most people's reality, Ms Cole's books have the ability to shock, fascinate, touch and repulse me as the story unfolds! **The Plot** Covering period from 1978 to the present day, The Business follows...

Change of Business?

Advantages: Another Book From Cole
Disadvantages: Not a great page turner

...Martina Cole - The Business?.. **The Book** Martina Cole's latest novel entitled "The Business" is yet another book filled with the gritty, hard hitting seediness that is the London underworld. We go back in time to the late 70's and meet the Dooley family. Gerald Dooley SNR, head of the house, Mary Dooley the mother of three children, two sons and a daughter, Imelda. Imelda is the main charter throughout the book as we follow her life, which is bad from start to finish. Imelda is trouble with a capital "T" and this is something that her family are soon to realise. Her sexually loose behaviour soon gets her with "a belly full of arms and legs" as Martina Cole so eloquently puts it, and this causes major friction within the family. Her father, Gerald SNR, cannot believe that his young and angelic daughter is already giving...

A Bit of Culture in the Market Place

Advantages: Great variety of entertainment on offer. Generally cheaper prices than larger venues
Disadvantages: The length of the trek to the loos! Not the most comfortable seating

...The Old Market Hove is a place which is difficult to label! It?s an historical building of some note, a theatre, a cultural centre, a venue for private hire catering for all sorts of events including weddings and civil partnerships, a recording studio, home to the celebrated Hanover Band and a base for Springboard, a competitive performing arts festival for young people. In fact it is a wonderful and invaluable community resource just a stone?s throw from the sea in The Brunswick area of Hove but just on the Brighton border. ~~~BRUNSWICK TOWN~~~ The area now known as Brunswick is, for me, one of the most fascinating areas of Hove. Brunswick Town was largely the brainchild of the Reverend Thomas Scutt whose family owned much of the land upon which it was built and Charles Augustin Busby, a talented architect who was responsible...

To market, to market

Advantages: Hustle, bustle, colour, bargains
Disadvantages: Variable quality, not so good for souvenirs

...to the experience and to my enthusiam. Fortunately, it is an enthusiasm shared with my wife. Everywhere we go we make a point of visiting the main market, and over the years have come to know their characteristics well. The best are busy and bustling with people, creating a background hubbub of patter, chatter, banter and doing deals; successful stall-holders tend to be among the world?s great extroverts. The best are colourful with the displays of merchandise, whether mouth-watering fresh fruit and vegetables, or gaudy garments and materials. They are full of energy and teeming with life. Riga Central Market is one of the best. * A good place for a market * The history books will tell you that Riga was founded in 1201AD by the Knights of the Sword, one of the Teutonic orders that crusaded and bullied their way up...

The Business

Advantages: Sunny
Disadvantages: Boring

...The Business is set in the 1980s and tells the story of a young man from London who goes to work in Spain. The film is set in the Costa del Sol, The acting, the storyline and the script in this film is not very good.. I might recommended this film for the soundtrack but not much else because it really isn't that good. I rented this film without the additional disc of extras so I can't really tell you anything about them. Even so, I wouldn't bother watching it if I were you. Running Time: 90 mins Director: Nick Love Producer: Allan Niblo, James Richardson Executive/Co-Producer: Rupert Preston Editor: Stuart Gazzard Screenwriter: Nick Love Director of Photography: Damian Bromley Sound: Simon Willis Cast: Danny Dyer, Tamer Hassan, Georgina Chapman, Geoff Bell...

On your marks get set for Greenwich Market

Advantages: intersting products, something for everyone, great for gifts
Disadvantages: Not a practical market

...Wednesday to Sunday with slightly different emphasis on products sold for example Thursday is antiques and collectibles. However my review will be based on the Weekend market with arts and crafts, fresh produce and deli style foods.I love visiting Greenwich Market on a weekend as there is a little bit of everything in what they sell. Its not a practical market though. If you are looking for two pounds of bananas for a pound, screws, a dodgy mobile phone cover or polyester jumper head to Deptford or Lewisham markets instead. What Greenwich does offer is th best in arts, crafts, gifts, clothes and food. The market management gives priority to small creative businesses selling small scale often local or ethically traded products which I full support. When looking for slightly unusual gifts I often come up trumps at Greenwich Market. Let...

The Cattle Market

Advantages: Nowhere else on earth has more multiculturalism packed into one place
Disadvantages: These days it's little more than a tourist attraction.

...a smallish town, can I ask you something? Do your markets overflow with the gangly, stripey stockinged legs of penniless teenagers who just won't go away? Say you lived in Walsall. I quite like Walsall, and there's a nice market there. The stuff is cheap and fake, the people go there purely to buy things, and then sod off again. That, to me is a market. If they'd renamed it Camden Zoo I may be able to tolerate it more. But with the exception of the second hand stores, it is vastly overpriced, predominatly pre-fabricated goth nonsense, and operates solely as a venue where insecure teenagers can go and preen themselves and buy drugs. Honestly, go there once. Go on a Friday, when it's busy, but not unmanagably so. Don't take the kids, they'll get trodden on. You will like all the sights and sounds, and all the crazy things you can buy...

Borough Market - 250 years of food heaven

Advantages: Fresh produce, lots of choice.
Disadvantages: Can spend too much money.

...on Southwark Street - look out for the huge archway which says Borough Market, or failing that, follow the crowd. There is a TSB near the market aswell as an Abbey National a little bit down the road as most stalls prefer cash. ~ Opening Hours ~ The market is actually open 6 days a week, however, it is only open to the general public on Thursdays 11-5, Fridays 12-6 and Saturdays 9-4. The rest of the time it is open to the catering trade so unless you want to buy a pallet of tomatoes and a sack of spuds, best go during the above times. Thursday only half the market is set out and it's a little quieter, Fridays can be quite busy depending on the time you get there and Saturdays are absolutely manic as you get a lot of tourists to contend with. Friday is when you'll often see a lot of photographers and sometimes the odd TV crew...

Running on Black Market Blood?

Advantages: The bands most versatile album to date; crosses genres quite well
Disadvantages: There are bland moments to behold and some messages are a bit hazy

...expected it to be from the first time they wrote an album and the coming down period after their drug fuelled rages was another difficult element to contend with. Following nine months in the studio, 'Black Market Music' was released in the October of 2000 with the promise that it would be a lot less about lead singer Brian Molko's own personal shortcomings and more about telling a story through an array of characters, a notion that was to certainly be expanded on from 1998's album. Not being aware of the band back when it was first release, in all of my innocent glory, it wasn't until a couple of years ago when I received this album. It has to be said that I wasn't instantly captivated by 'Black Market Music'; I'd adored 'Sleeping With Ghosts' - the follow up record to this one - and thought that the dynamic of 'Placebo' was a good...
