...The Red Hot Chili Peppers are quite new to me - I had heard of them, but I wasn't a particular fan, and hadn't heard a lot of their songs. But then the album By The Way became really popular and By The Way and The Zephyr Song become really big hits, and I decided to download some of their earlier stuff from KaZaA. Otherside, Californication and Scar Tissue were the ones I downloaded (from the album Californication) and I liked all three. One friend lent me a copy of By The Way and I loved it! I went out and bought it from HMV the next day. A quick overview: the band consist of Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Flea (bass guitar), Chad Smith (drums) and a guitarist but I can't remember his name! It's something Frusciante, I know that, but I can't for the life of me recall his first name! They've been around for ages and I now have three...

Great music with a touch of genius, by the way

Advantages: lots of styles, lots of moods, can really get into it, excellent lyrics
Disadvantages: explicit language, can't be fully appreciated just in the background

...Before this album, I wasn?t a fan of the Chilis at all. After, I definitely am, and would love to see them in concert. Before this album, my favourite song had been the most beautiful, sublime Beatles love song ?Something?. After, it holds its supremacy no longer. Before this album, I had spent years listening to music a song at a time and I think the last actual whole album to come out that I truly loved was ?It Doesn?t Matter Anymore? by The Supernaturals way back when in about 1996-7. After, I can once again listen to the same album, time after time, and never get bored. Such is the impact ?By The Way? By the way... it was great!

...I was just scanning through the Red Hot Chili Peppers part of Ciao before and discovered to my amazement that nobody had reviewed a gig from the ?By The Way World Tour!? I know that this tour ended last year but it was such a good gig, that I feel obliged to, even now, review it. So, I?ve been a fan of the Chili?s for about 5 or 6 years, probably since Californication came out. I absolutely adore Californication and so when By The Way came out, I will admit that I was sad enough to be in a shop at 8.30am buying the album! Instantaneously, I loved this album (almost as much as Californication) and knew straight away that it would be worth keeping an eye out for the up and coming tour. Then, a while later the ticket details were announced, I got them on pre-sale via the fan club and bought my ticket for £25 to see the Chilis...

By The Way just to say another great album

Advantages: Great refeashing songs once again
Disadvantages: some songs can sound alike

.... THE TRACKS: 1) By The Way A medium tempo song with up beat and original lyrics the soft verses compliment the slightly heavier chorus. This is the song the album is named after. This song was released. "Standing in line to see the show tonight and there's a light of heavy glow..." 2)Universally Speaking Slow Tempo with relaxing melodic tunes with Antony singing quite softly and as the song goes on gets a little more up lifting towards the end. "Take it back you make me nervous nothing better than love and service..." 3)This Is The Place Slow Tempo slightly more serious song for the Chili's but one of my favourite it combines low tones and long notes, with a more slightly upbeat chorus with some nice harmonies in the background. By the way, I just can't stop flying my zephyr

Advantages: Original, fresh and a poke in the eye for manufactured rubbish
Disadvantages: Unless you use internet shops, it will cost you around 15 pounds

...Most modern bands are rubbish. Not all, but most are. Liberty X, Justin Timberlake, Boyzone and so on and so forth. They are just mouthpieces for someone else's greed. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are, to put it mildly, pure, unadulterated talent. This album (By the Way) is another notch in the belt of these great musicians. By now, I would have expected them to start to wane, but no. They just keep adapting and belting them out. No one can hold a candle to them. Not even with their own songs. For example, "Under the Bridge" is regarded as a seminal classic track, even to this day. But when talentless tarts, All Saints, got hold of the track, what came was nothing less than a travesty. Substituting, heavy drumbeats and light guitar riffs for a terrible static back beat, All Saints version of "Under the Bridge" is better best forgotten...

By the Way- it's brilliant

...1) BY THE WAY ? The title track is a great starting tune. It is a fantastic party tune. It will already be known to many, as it was the first song to be released off the album. 2) UNIVERSALLY SPEAKING- A good beat with great vocals. Some different sounding instruments among it, making it superb 3) THIS IS THE PLACE- A deep base line followed by a strong drumbeat starts this track. The lyrics are very modern: ?I don?t want to do it, like my daddy did. I don?t want to give it, To my baby?s kid?. 4) DOSED- My favourite track on the album has a beautiful riff alongside the smooth gentle voice of Kiedis. A classic song 5) DON?T FORGET ME- This is a little slow with a strange sound. However the thoughtful lyrics should make up for this. 6) ZEPHYR SONG- Many will know this track as it was the second track to be released...

Give this band a try - The Way of All Flesh by Gojira

Advantages: Fantastic muscianship, brilliant songs
Disadvantages: Only one or two skippable songs; not for every music taste

...Gojira are a 4 piece band from the south of france, who perform their tracks in english. Their genre tends to be a cross over of all ranges, from death to thrash to techno. I recently saw them perform at the Oxford 02 Academy and it was the best gig i've ever been to, so i thought i'd come back and write a review for their latest album, The Way of All Flesh. I would well recommend a listen to them. There are 12 tracks to this album, starting with the uplifting 'Oroborous'. The album's lyrics focus on aspects and beliefs of life and death and are very intriguing, along with their usual lyrics about global warming and earthly matters. Track Listing: 1. Disadvantages: biased & dated

...account of Ulster fascinating, if marred by complete lack of historical background replaced by a bizarre theory about family roles; while his description of desolate grandeur of Sutherland made me want to go there immediately. He does get things wrong: from, famously now, claiming that there is no pier in Wigan to stating that crowdie is equivalent to porridge and a crofter is some old fashioned way of describing a tenant farmer. But in a way, it doesn't matter. Nobody in their right mind reads Theroux for factual information, historical background or statistics.
