I highly recommend the Sun Rise walk, about 5am you can head up to the Light House and watch the amazing sight of the sun coming up over the most beautiful scenery...

Beautiful, Blissful, Beach-filled Byron

Advantages: Gorgeous beaches
Disadvantages: Not a busy, attraction filled place

...How did you spend Christmas this year? Mine was pretty usual. I went for a walk on the beach as I always do. I ate too much, again as per usual. I indulged in present giving and receiving. But this year I also went out for a pancake breakfast, did a little shopping, had a massage and a spell in a flotation tank and lazed by a pool until gone midnight, dressed only in bathers and a Santa hat. This year I was in Byron Bay on December 25th, a place where wonderful weather and places being open every day of the year are the least of the differences. Byron Bay is a 2 hour drive from Brisbane, and is just over the state line in New South Wales, meaning that for 6 months of the year there's a time difference with Queensland. Hard to say bye to Byron

Advantages: Amazing scenery and beaches
Disadvantages: Too far to go every weekend - even for me!

...Last Thursday, I was sitting in the office feeling a little bit fed up, a bit of bloke trouble and a lousy week at work were making me feel like getting away for a few days. Hmmm, where is a girl to go when she feels this way? I called my friend Lynn, who is currently travelling round Australia and asked her where she was. ?Coffs Harbour right now? was the reply, ?But I?ll be in Byron by Saturday? So there it was, before you could say ?Tie me Kangaroo Down? I was on the net looking for a flight up the coast. Flights to Byron Bay from Sydney, (where I?m based) are frequent and cheep, with both Virgin Blue and Quantas offering good deals. As I left it so late I paid a bit more, $330.00 or about £150, if you know further in advance I reckon you could pick a return flight up for about £80. Review of My Favorite Poet

Go to Australia and head East!

Advantages: Great beach, great reviews, great place to relax

...The most Easterly point of the Australian mainland, this is the first part of the continent to get the sunrise so a beautiful place to go and watch the sun come up. You can drive right up to a lighthouse on the most easterly point on Cape Byron and overlook the pacific ocean while the sun rises, and if you are lucky you might even see dolphins and whales playing off shore! This lighthouse was built in 1901 and is the most powerful lighthouse in the southern hemisphere. There is a walking track that takes you right round the cape from the Captain Cook lookout on Lighthouse Road. The track comes back to its starting point so you can leave vehicles at the bottom. Wallabies are often seen at the end of this track as it takes you through the bush. I was in Byron Bay during September and saw lots of whales and dolphins swimming...

Best hotel in Auckland (on a budget)!

Advantages: beautiful location, fantastic staff
Disadvantages: you cannot walk to the city

...We decided to book Spencer on Byron as our first stop in New Zealand as this hotel had the best reviews on a rival site, and was within our budget at about £40 per night. We landed in Auckland at 11 pm, tired after a 24 long trip from London. As Spencer on Byron is right across town, we got a good look of Auckland at night - beautiful. The taxi driver actually asked us how come we had picked that hotel as most tourists want to be closer to the city. At this stage we started to feel a bit worried about our choice, as in my experience taxi drivers are a good source of information on where to go and what to do. However, after a 35-40 minute long drive much of it through green luscious suburbs, we arrived at the hotel. Beaches, Beer and Blues - A Backpacker's Heaven

Advantages: Beautiful beaches, friendly people, great nightlife, cheap accommodation and food. Great place to chill out!
Disadvantages: Gradually getting more touristy, hopefully won't go the way of the Gold Coast or Bondi!

...Conveniently situated on the coastal route between Brisbane and Sydney, this lively little town has got to be one of my favourite places on the planet. Gorgeous beaches, friendly people, a great night-life... what more could a girl ask for? The main landmark in Byron Bay is the lighthouse that can be seen from most parts of the town - there is a pleasant walk from here to the 'Most Easterly Part of Australia'. This is quite a good spot for nature-lovers to catch the whale migration during spring or autumn. Accommodation remains affordable, despite the influx of tourists in recent years. For the backpacker my advice is to avoid the hostels in the town centre and opt for one a little further out of town - these tend to be a lot cheaper (usually around $15/£6 per night depending on the season) and have a free mini-bus into town...

...Booking accommodation for the Christmas period is always tough. Ditto booking accommodation on a strict budget, booking accommodation when there are a few of you, and booking accommodation in a specific location with specific features. These were all issues when we booked our accommodation for our Christmas stay in Byron Bay, and even though we booked what we thought was well in advance (early October), our choices were limited. For this reason we went with the first hostel that could fit us in - the Backpackers Inn on the Beach - and booked for the 4 of us to stay 4 nights. ...I was debating whether or not to write a review about Byron's because the last thing in the world I'd want to do is publicise it. As it stands, it is a pretty smallish restaurant tucked neatly away on Devonshire Hill in Hampstead, not in the harsh lights of the West End. Its character is entirely Hampstead. It embodies class, warmth and sophistication without being the slightest bit affected. The staff are welcoming and helpful, the ambiance is classical French with lots of dark woods and candlelight. And then there is the food- certainly the highpoint of the whole affair.
