When it was released it dominated the strategy market, totally destroying previous competitors such as Dune II and the like. Now, however, it has bee released on budget and is competing with its own children; Red Alert, Tiberium Sun, and now Red Alert 2.
If you question whether C&C is a good game, see some of the other opinions here on Ciao. Even better, talk to your friends; chances are they've played it. The quality of C&C is not really an issue, its whether to buy it now, after it has been released for several years.

...is alot of stratergy but you need to have a vague plan in your head and a few tricks up up your sleve to make it and interesting game b ut the more fun way is where you just have all out war.
Yee you have to have windows XP because there is an add on for C&C Generals which is called C&C Zero Hour where you get better units ect and you may need a fair bit of memory to run the game and a good graphics card and if you have all that good on you and i hope you enjoy the game.
There is also now a newer version of command and conquer generals it is called command and conquer generals zero hour.

Instead There Is China, America(Yes You Can Kill Your Own Units!) And The Gla Or Global Liberation Army(Terrorists). Each Has Its Own Story Which Normally Involves Taking Out The Gla. Each Has Different Units That Are True To Real Life. They All Have Different Tactics And Each Has A Super weapon That Can Devastate The Enemy.
The Americans Have The Particle Beam Which Is Like A Giant Laser That Destroys Every Thing Around Its Relatively Small Area.
China Has A Necleur Missile Launch That Causes Toxic Waste Which Instantly Kills People.
The Gla Have A Scud Launcher Which Fires Eight Missies At An Area To Obliterate Everything Around.

After installing the game I found no shortcut on my desktop nor item in the start menu.
I had to find the .exe file and pin to start menu myself.
The game opens after a lengthy blank screen and I successfully went through the 'training session'
(so much easier using keyboard and mouse)

Advantages: Fantastic multiplayer, Fun game and answers the question "just what is in those buildings" Disadvantages: No bots or AI (as default AFAIK) on multiplayer. Quite easy
...I've always loved the C&C games, and when renegade was released I was first out to buy it.
Renegade is definately different to the usual C&C games. This is a shooter, either in the 3rd person or 1st person and really doesn't need that much strategy. It's the kinda game people can pickup and putdown with ease yet with that addictive strain only westwood has been able to instill in me.
I like simple stategy and the kinda "team" feeling this game gives to. The story line is weak, but still yet extremely fun and you always want to go that step further. The stages in the game are nice. Every mission is made of several stages you have to complete before you leave and start on the next level. There's eleven levels and it can take upto an hour to do a stage (or more if you're stupid like me)

...Red Alert 2 is an outstanding game. Like all of the other C&C games, this game is a very playable and great game. Four types of play have kept me occupied every since it was released. The graphics arent as good as Tiberian Sun, being more 'childish' than Tiberian Sun, however there is much better gameplay, better and more units, and a lot more possibilities.
The main type of play is the missions. You can either be Soviet or Allies. With the Allies you attempt missions which increase in difficulty as the game progress, which follow a very good story line. A man named Yuri (a physic bloke) takes over the mind of the president of Russia, so he can be in control. He then attempts to take over the whole world using his physic powers. You aim is to stop his attempts which include people taking over your men, and people from your own...

...Following on from the game that was Ground Control 1, Ground Control 2 brings a new theme of game to the PC, which many Command & Conquer veterans may recognise.
The game features a singleplayer Campaign mode, where you battle through a series of 10 missions for either the Virons, a futuristic-type species, or the NSA, who are the humans in the game. Each campain features a nice storyline, which ties into each other later in the game.
Like the C&C series, Ground Control 1 & 2 both feature a strategy type of gameplay, but with a difference. They only allow you to control your units, but no build structures. While many might like the idea of building a mini-base in the middle of the snow, Ground Control 2 will only allow you to control each of your units. While this may seem annoying and disappointing to some, it is very fun to do...

...The original Ground Control is excellent, yet relatively unheard of. In the world of strategy C&C is king. This little piece of strategic gaming loveliness has potential and ability however to make people sit up and notice there is more than one franchise in this genre.
Ground Control 2 : Operation Exodus leads on from the original, although don't worry, the story line is fully explained so new comers will not feel alienated. The gameplay revolves around 2 sides as did the previous game, these being the NSA and the Terrans. The mysterious Viron race are the third side that enter the game about 1/4 of the way through.
As the player, you will be able to play 2 campaigns, firstly the NSA campaing and then the Viron campaign. Both of these are huge, and both very challenging.

RTS games usually involve the player building some sort of baase, then an army then attack other people. Command $ Conquer generals has opened up a new story line for C&C, this time it is a more realistic story line, you choose between three teams U.S.A., China, and the GLA (Global liberation army) Each team has different strategies, units, and technologies.
