Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec

Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked

...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs. I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for. I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in. The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair. The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

Peugeot 307 SW 1.6 HDi SE

Advantages: Versatile seating, economy, comfort, noise levels, low ved, low insurance
Disadvantages: middle seat 2nd row 3rd row cramped, don't buy if you carry larger kids!

.... Having been on a couple of longish runs (110 miles, 175 & 225) we have found it a relaxing car to drive, and the fuel consumption gets better on long runs. With Peugeot's low emissions, and the low insurance rating (group 6 -7, direct line call it something like group 40, they're a bit odd) it all adds to the economy of the car. Parking is pretty easy, would have liked the reverse parking aid, but it's not essential. Have now used the 6 & 7 seats several times; really limits boot space. Have also used 4 seats, 2 + 1 + 1 to carry long loads +4 people. The kids often ask to sit in the back, even if the second row is vacant. All the kids love the panoramic roof with the electric cover. Can I recommend this as a people carrier? Only if you are leprechauns! If you need to carry under 10-year-olds it's ok. If you need to carry medium to...

Ciroen C4 VTR+

Advantages: Toys
Disadvantages: Ride

...and down the box for the power - 5th couldn't pull a fat minger at ten to two in the nightclub, even with the offer of a free kebab first. There is no footrest either - a capital crime in my opinion! Economy on the C4 was rather poor - i did 29.3 mpg with a bit of town driving and mostly motorway. Ok, I was in a rush but the lack of power means you have to rev it. Apparently you can do over 40, but that would be my dad driving. On the whole, I cannot imagine why anyone with the required level of intelligence to walk into the showroom with £14,300 would actually buy this car. It's just so poor compared to the competition - the Focus blows it away. If you want economy, a 1.6TDCi is as powerful and has MUCH more torque, handles better and, although it won't have as many 'toys', they are generally a) useless or b) annoying on the C4 anyway. If...

Ford Focus 1.6 - Shocking!!

Advantages: Handling and Looks
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Bodywork, Transmission...

...Two years ago I decided to buy a brand new car, and after much research I decided upon the Ford Focus 1.6 (old style now). Everything I had read pointed towards a really good choice. So I went into my local Ford dealer and a week later I had my nice new car. First thoughts were a good looking car, well built, fantastically smooth to drive, held the roads amazingly well. All of the equipment worked wonderfully well and I absolutley loved my new car. Then the problems began.... After two weeks the Airbag Modulator failed, so I went back to the dealer, and they replaced the faulty part within a few days. They wouldn't let me have a courtesy cat so was left hanging around the dealers for a few hours. All work was under warranty so no cost to me. Three weeks after the Modulator fault I was washing the car and noticed tiny rust spots...

10/10 for the Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Climate

Advantages: Big luggage compartment, Heated windscreen
Disadvantages: Nothing

...I bought my Ford Focus in August 2006. After many months of research I opted for the 1.6 zetec climate model. As a young mother with two small children I needed plenty of room in the back and a boot large enough to carry a pushchair as well as the weekly shop, I am happy to say that this car did not disappoint. Some other great features of this model are -The Heated front windscreen and mirrors which save me a lot of time in the mornings. -The CD player that comes as standard and can be controlled by a lever attached to the steering column, Sound quality is great and the speakers in the back are in the doors - so I can have the radio on without the speakers blaring down the babys ears. -The fuel consumption is a lot better than I expected for a car of it size. -The car is very stylish although very common...

Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDi Desire - a surprisingly good all rounder!

Advantages: Massive boot space, Frugal engine, Comfortable ride.
Disadvantages: Poor residuals, Engine noise, Styling

...Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDi Multispace Performance The 1.6HDi engine has been used in Citroens and Peugeots for over 10 years now, testament to it's popularity and reliability. It is smooth and responsive, if a little noisey and capable of providing adequate acceleration and overtaking ability. The o-62 mph time is a sluggish 15 seconds and the top speed is 93 mph. The 5 speed manual is precise and solid which build on a silky smooth ride comfort to give an overall relaxing driving experience. Practicality This is where the cars excels. Its cavernous boot space will swallow all your luggage, shopping or pets with ease. The optional Dog Gaurd which is fitted in my car is custom made for the Berlingo and is solid and secure. It is made of a fine metal mesh which only marginally reduces rear visibility. The Desire...

Focus 1.6 - A fun stylish serious car.

Advantages: Comfortable, spacious for passengers, driver and lugage. Nippy and stylish.
Disadvantages: Its not the ST170 and its not the RS.

...My 1.6 is one of the late early 2001 models and it is a pleasure to drive it was second hand and had two previous owners, I'm not sure how they treated it but when I picked it up it was in pristine condition which to me says that it is a fairly hardwearing car. Its smooth lines and contours make for a slightly sporty look as well as the memories of the Rally focus in all its glory tearing up the WRC. It is a very smooth ride with fantastic handling so if you are a little heavy on the peddle it has the strength to compensate. Acceleration is good and you through the range of the 5 speed gear box, and at the other end of the scale the brakes are hot too mine only has discs on the front and Drums on the back but there is plenty there to slow down the 125 horses that kick out of the engine. If you are into modifying cars then...

Peugeot 307 1.6 HDi

Advantages: Looks good, great interior, well equipped, good mpg
Disadvantages: cold chrome gearstick

...I purchased this car 2 months ago having traded in my 2003 SEAT Ibiza TDi Sport which was giving me trouble. Because I had been used to the 130bhp and almost 50mpg the Ibiza gave me I wanted something different, but still with these attributes. So, I opted for the 1.6 HDi version of the 307. This gives 110bhp, and although its 20 bhp less than the Ibiza the power delivery is much smooth and more progressive. The 307 HDI is a full blown turbo, so it doesn't suffer nearly as badly from "turbo lag", meaning it pulls well in all gears from as low down as 1000-1200 rpm. It is also incredible quiet when stood as it ticks over at less than 800 rpm (meaning you don't sound quite so much like a tractor as other diesels) The 307 is a mid-sized family car and will easily seat 5 people (even the 3-door version I have - its very easy to get in...

Clutchless Gearbox on a Diesel - Rare Combination

Advantages: Looks good, plenty of extras, well built, spacious interior, no clutch
Disadvantages: Automatic gearchanges could be better timed

...When looking for a new car back in December 2006, I wanted something which ran on diesel, had a clutchless gearbox (i.e. automatic with paddleshift) and looked good. This combination limits youto a number of manufacturers it seems, and I ended up choosing between a diesel automatic Audi A3 and the Citroen C4 1.6HDi 16V VTR+ Coupe EGS. I chose the Citroen C4 based on the fact that it is better value for money (unsurprisingly) and looks better (I also already have a Citroen Picasso) Design I chose the 3 door version, as it looks much better than the 5 door version (which looks like a Ford Focus), a bit sporty even, and meets my requirements. I chose the "Iron Grey" colour, which I think compliments the car's salmon-esque shape. I don't see many C4s in the South-East of the UK, and it does stand out amongst the usual German marques...

Grand C4 Picasso Exclusive 2.0HDi Exclusive

Advantages: Versatile, comfortable, gadgets
Disadvantages: EGS system unnerving

...To be exact I have the Grand C4 Picasso 7 seater EGS 2.0HDi Exclusive. I have had this car for a couple of months now and am generally very impressed. On unlocking the vehcile the mirrors move out and the floor adjacent to the car is illuminated by lights in the door mirrors Comfort The seating is very comfortable and has zoned airconditioning and cruise control / speed limiter built in. The EGS system is good for those long haul drives as the driver can relax and concentrate on the road ahead. As stated it can be alarming if you need to accelerate quickly! Inside the car there is a feature called ambient lighting that gives an orange glow from the roof lining and under the dashboard, its nice but a bit gimmicky. The door pockets helpfully light up when you insert your hand. There is a colled compartment on the dashboard suitable...
