I fell in love with a C5 2.0 HDi hatchback!

Advantages: comfort, style, economy, space
Disadvantages: not a nippy speedy car

...against stone damage as the lights would be expensive to replace, Our C5 has a diesel 110bhp 1997cc engine. It is not a fast car but it is very economical. It's natural cruising speed seems to be 70-80 mph whereas it was hard to restrain the 307 from 90 mph but for our needs that is absolutely fine. It doesn't seem to lose speed on hills even with a load on it. It is also very economical on fuel - I would think it does about 50 to the gallon. If you want a speedier version of the C5 you would need to look out for the 2.2 HDi version but then I'm not sure if you would get the same fuel economy. I find it really easy to drive. The handbrake seems in a strange place - at least different to what I have been used to - it is a bit off centre towards the drivers seat but you quickly get used to it. It is a big car and seems too big...

Peugeot 307 Rapier 2.0HDi (90bhp)

Advantages: great looks, fuel economy and performance
Disadvantages: had lots of problems especially with the electrics

...I had this car from new but did not buy it myself as it was a company car and rented from Peugeot. It was a 52 (October 2002) registration and I had it the full 3 years of the lease and I was the main driver with my partner driving it occasionally. This review is based on the fact that I did 20,000 plus miles a year and quite a bit of motorway driving. The car was: 5 door hatchback 90bhp 1997cc 4 cylinders 8 valves Insurance group 6 Road tax band C Manual transmission I'll start with the good bits about it. ! I loved it's looks and colour - aegean blue. It was roomy and comfortable and the performance was superb as far as I'm concerned. It's supposed to do 111mph but I doubt it would but it would happily go along at 90mph - which, of course, I never tried! Very few similar spec cars used to pass it on the motorway...

307 SW 2.0 HDI

Advantages: Lots of toys, the SW version I have has a nice sun roof
Disadvantages: economy, falling to bits

...( the windscreen wipers do not wipe the whole screen) , is falling apart ( more on this to follow ) , is serviced by a dealer who seems to have been trained by peugeot to give the galic shrug in responce to all problems. So you really get the idea that i hate this car with a passion shown by Basil Faulty when he beats his austin with a branch, you are right , thus far this is what has happend to it in 2 years of driving ( 44000 miles ) Wiper motor burns out, and takes out wiring loom New battery fitted entire underside falls off on M6 Knocking suspension changed CD changer jams ( once whilst listening to killing jokes.. Laugh I nearly bought one ) MPG falls to a all time low of 32.5 drivers seat tears ( changed after 5 weeks of a piece of metal sticking in my leg) Fails to start 4 times ( RAC comes out ) Radio control stem...

Xsara Picasso 2.0Hdi Exclusive '03

Advantages: Practicality, looks
Disadvantages: Bulid quality, fuel economy

...We bought our 'Pic' in September 2003, when it was 6 months old with 13k on the clock. Since then we have covered an additional 20k miles. In addition to the usual ABS, passenger / driver airbags etc, the exclusive comes with CD player, climate control, cruise control, trip / fuel computer, panoramic glass electric sunroof and special trim. We have 2 young children, so for the most part the car is the school taxi and as a result only returns around 30mpg around town. On a good motorway run, it will return around 47mpg, this using cruise control and holding around 70-75mph on the motorway. Performance from the 90bhp 4 cylinder diesel engine is a little slow but fine when cruising on carriageways and motorways etc. Comfort and visibility are excellent, I can drive 200 miles non stop with no back ache, only ear ache due to the poor...

Citroen Xsara 2.0HDi estate

Advantages: Great engine for power and economy, massive boot, bargain 2nd-hand.
Disadvantages: Dull interior, dull image.

...Well, it has done over 90,000 miles now, but the engine remains powerful, the seats supportive and the trim in good condition. Contrary to Citroen's reputation this car has been extremely reliable over the last 5+ years I have owned it, and the dealer's been fair too. Generally underrated, I have driven far newer cars that don't appear to have progressed much at all. Dirt cheap 2nd hand. The best bits are: The strong and economical engine. It shows a clean pair of heels to plenty of surprised Audi/Merc/BMW drivers and I get 40mpg around town, and over 60mpg on motorways. The nice smooth ride, far better than more modern hard-riding cars. It handles well despite the softer ride and the steering has some feel to it. The boot is big for a car of this size, and gigantic with the rear seats folded down. Tyre wear - on average they are...

206 SW 2.0 HDi

Advantages: Fuel Economy, Handling, Good Looks
Disadvantages: Bland Gearbox, Minor Storage Problem

...problems in actually selecting the gear but it feels loose. Also there are no drinks holders and the door pockets are neither useless nor or of any use, as the aren''t deep enough to store cds or wide enough to put a can/bottle in. Insurance: For this car is Group 5/6 and switching from my 7 yr old astra (2.0 16v) was actually cheaper !!. I thought I would miss the performance but it's not the case at all. Servicing and parts are more expensive but not excessive and the car has 10k service intervals anyway. Overall i'm delighted with my car, so far. and in 2 months covered 3000+ miles....

Citreon C8 2.0HDi SX

Advantages: Loads of Room and versatile, automatic controls
Disadvantages: Positioning of handbrake lever

...catch on the door pocket!!!! This does however give a bit more space in the cabin so I can cross freely from drivers to passengers side or even from front to back without having to clamber over obstacles extremely handy for parking in very tight spaces. Weve also had one small faux pas with the intergrated sunblinds, which was an accident waiting to happen. They are fantastic they pull up out of the door trims and fasten by a simple plastic hook at the top of the window frame. However on the sliding door they are fastened by 2 hooks and if small enquireing fingers unfasten one the blind then flops about, enough so when you open the sliding door the blind gets trapped on the c-post and is ripped off!!!!!!This usually happens 2 days after warning the owner of the fingers not to play with the blinds!!! After the rapair the sliding door no...

Review of Citroen C8 2.0 HDi

Most fault-ridden car I've owned

Advantages: Lack of road noise, interesting shape, roomy.
Disadvantages: Too many faults, disappointing suspension, oil leaks, poor dealer support

...Within minutes of taking delivery of this car I discovered the first of many faults - the indicators didn't work. And this after supposedly having a full PDI. Other faults have included: Repeated oil leaks Continuous suspension problems Vibration at 70 mph Pulling to left (no fix according to dealer) Knocking from steering Intrusive whine from gearbox Creaking from front side windows Problems have not always been resolved properly by main local dealer under warranty (despite written complaints) and in some cases, no supporting paperwork has been produced to verify what parts have been used. Getting on for two years since the car was bought, all but one of the above faults are still present. On M-ways and most dual-carriageways, the C5 is a pleasant car to drive or ride in, with very low road or engine noise and the usual...
