Most fault-ridden car I've owned
Review of Citroen C5 2.0hdi estate by
Edward510
Advantages: Lack of road noise, interesting shape, roomy.
Disadvantages: Too many faults, disappointing suspension, oil leaks, poor dealer support
...Within minutes of taking delivery of this car I discovered the first of many faults - the indicators didn't work. And this after supposedly having a full PDI. Other faults have included:
Repeated oil leaks
Continuous suspension problems
Vibration at 70 mph
Pulling to left (no fix according to dealer)
Knocking from steering
Intrusive whine from gearbox
Creaking from front side windows
Problems have not always been resolved properly by main local dealer under warranty (despite written complaints) and in some cases, no supporting paperwork has been produced to verify what parts have been used. Getting on for two years since the car was bought, all but one of the above faults are still present.
On M-ways and most dual-carriageways, the C5 is a pleasant car to drive or ride in, with very low road or engine noise and the usual undulations...

Grab a family transport bargain
Review of Citroen C5 2.0 Estate by
silvo63
Advantages: Big, comfy, and economical, motorway mile eater
Disadvantages: noisy suspension over rough roads, slightly iffy electrics
...We decided to go for the 2.0 SX Estate as we've had 3 BX's previously (GTI, TD Saloon, and 1.9 RD Estate) and figured that the C5 2.0 HDi Estate was the natural progression to this line up.
All our citroens have, in general, been very reliable. Even the suspension, which those that don't understand it think is complicated and expensive to repair, is a brilliant piece of engineering (good enough for Rolls Royce and Jaguar to make use of).
We needed a large, reliable and cheap to run car, that is good on the motorway as we travel a lot of miles, as a family, making use of the brilliant French Motorway and Main A road system, the C5 does this kind of motoring brilliantly.
As a general rule, we'll drive the full length of France (about 700 miles) on 1 tank of fuel, in around 9 hours (traffic permitting).
The reason we can do...

I fell in love with a C5 2.0 HDi hatchback!
Review of Citroen C5 2.0 HDi 16v Exclusive by
laveyri
Advantages: comfort, style, economy, space
Disadvantages: not a nippy speedy car
...This review is on a Citroen C5 HDi LX 110bhp diesel hatchback 2002 model (02). (The picture under this heading is incorrect and shows an estate car - apologies - picture not from me. The details relate to this hatchback)
We bought this car several months ago and I absolutely love it. I have been used to having a company car which is renewed every three years and thought having an older second hand car again would be a nasty shock to the system but have found the complete opposite is the case with this one! We were not planning to buy either a Citroen or a big car but we needed to get something fairly quickly and we went to a local independent garage from which we have bought many cars over the years for ourselves and which we have recommended to many friends an family. The original plan was to buy a car of a similar size...

Brilliant car
Review of Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi FAP by
Davies2
Advantages: Lovely interior & responsive engine with good economy
Disadvantages: Boot a little small.
...I have just test driven the 5 door version of this car (the Rapier model).
I want to have a diesel car and I have test driven this car as well as the Citroen Xsara (although the Xsara was 90 bhp as opposed to 110 bhp in the Peugeot.)
The Citroen Xsara is currently on offer (along with the Saxo and Picasso) suggesting a new model in the near future as the C3, C5 & C8 have arrived or are imminent for delvery to a showroom near you. The diesel Xsara (90 bhp) was a good ride and comfy - but the Peugeot 307 110bhp was a dream in comparison.
The exterior is perfectly adequate - no qualms there.
The interior is beyond belief. The driving position is very variable and should suit all - I found it perfect for making my comfortable zone. (Not easy when some cars aggrevate my hip condition.) I loved the lay out in the dash...

A Car or a Computer
Review of Citroen C5 3.0 V6 by
Jehaz
Advantages: Cheap, Functional, Powerful, Huge
Disadvantages: A little chunky in looks
...; by tempting them with price. Take advantage of this deal - because you won't get this kind of luxery in the same priceband with any other manufacturer.
If you are looking to purchase a new car, and you can afford £20,500 – the Citroen C5 3.0 V6 will take your money so much further.
...go on, go to Citroen’s website and apply to test-drive it too. - You've read the review, heard the technical information and proberbly watched the advert - but prepare to be amazed when you get inside and let her take you for a spin!...

Pug 307 HDI
Review of Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi by
ducati996
Advantages: Fantastic chassis & brakes
Disadvantages: interior trim & electrics
...I recieved one of these as a company car & my first impression was that its a really nice looking car.
The 2.0HDi diesel engine is quiet & fairly powerful but is slightly held up by the notchy gearchange.
The brakes are really strong & as expected, the chassis is really good down a twisty road.
The only problems I have experienced with the car (we have 300 in our fleet)are mainly electric & trim based.
So far my indicators have failed along with the washer pump & the wipers also died. All of which seem to be common faults. The carpet on the drivers side has come away after 23K & the stitching on the driver seat is tearing but really its nit picking on a really nice drivers car....

Grand C4 Picasso Exclusive 2.0HDi Exclusive
Review of Citroen C4 Picasso by
civil142
Advantages: Versatile, comfortable, gadgets
Disadvantages: EGS system unnerving
...To be exact I have the Grand C4 Picasso 7 seater EGS 2.0HDi Exclusive. I have had this car for a couple of months now and am generally very impressed.
On unlocking the vehcile the mirrors move out and the floor adjacent to the car is illuminated by lights in the door mirrors
Comfort
The seating is very comfortable and has zoned airconditioning and cruise control / speed limiter built in. The EGS system is good for those long haul drives as the driver can relax and concentrate on the road ahead. As stated it can be alarming if you need to accelerate quickly! Inside the car there is a feature called ambient lighting that gives an orange glow from the roof lining and under the dashboard, its nice but a bit gimmicky. The door pockets helpfully light up when you insert your hand. There is a colled compartment on the dashboard suitable...

Peogeot 406 estate
Review of Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi by
stegg
Advantages: economical, reliable,
Disadvantages: shabby finish
...I have now owned my Peogeot 406 diesel estate (2.0 HDI) for 4 years. It has started first time every day throughout this time, is economical, especially on long runs, comfortable, quiet and a pleasure to drive. The electronic climate control keeps the interior environment pleasant regardless of what the weather is doing outside - it is a real cocoon.
However, there have been many niggles. The windscreen wipters are computer-controlled and don't always do what I want them to, especially when turning them off!. The boy trim (little plastic crhome strips) fall off regularly, and the front passenge seat squeaks when not occupied, which is most of the time. I have had many small problems of this nature for about two years. They are annoying, but do not detract from the overall value of having a reliable car.
The fact that this model...
