...For a new years dinner I cooked a gammon joint and served a red cabbage dish with it. This was really tasty, complimented the gammon. This made me think I would try and grow some this year from seed. There are several red varieties of cabbage. I shall try to grow a Savoy type. I expect a packet of seeds will cost around £2. I expect to buy at my local garden centre but seeds are available on line too. Red cabbage should be grown the same way as green ones. I will buy a variety which I can sow in March or April. I shall start my seeds growing in some growing compost in a seed tray in my greenhouse. This will give them a good start. ...I am a yoyo dieter and have tried most diets over many years. I tend to try the low calorie method the most and was intrigued by this cabbage soup diet that is very low calorie. The soup I have the recipe for, which is enough for three portions is made from 3 onions, 1 green pepper, 1 head of celery, half a cabbage, 2 tins chopped tomatoes, 1 pack of onion soup mix and three pints of vegetable stock. The diet claims to lose you up to 10lb in 7 days and an intake of about 800 calories daily this more or less guarantees it. Most people are confused about the diet and many do not know that you can eat other foods as well it is just the cabbage soup is allowed in unlimited quantity daily. You can eat rice one day and a baked potato another day. Bananas is also a good thing to fill you up and unlimited raw vegetables as well...

Also i exercised my way into shape, as they say, simply because whenever i exercise, i always tend to feel more toned up....strange i know. ...Got a family that does not really like vegetables or just feeling fed up with the same old carrots etc. Well try this, my lot love it. Chop up bacon into bits or be more economical and buy bits to start with. Put into a clean frying pan and slowly cook - do not add oil or fat. Be aptient and the bacon will eventually turn into crispy bits and you will have a coating of bacon fat in the pan. Slice and shred a cabbage. Add the cabbage to the pan and cook to your own preferance, whether it is crisp or softened as we like it, making sure you toss it about in the bacon fat so that it soaks it all up. Switch off the heat and let the cabbage absorb all the bacon flavour. Heat through when you need to serve....
