Flamingo Flamenco

Advantages: a change from lying on the beach, the archeological museum , flamingos, St. Efisio
Disadvantages: some architectural sins

...FLAMINGO FLAMENCO I'm trying to see Cagliari (for you: Cá-lee-a-ree, stress on the first syllable), the capital of Sardinia, with the eyes of a tourist, not an easy task for me considering the fact that it has been the place where to visit in-laws for yonks. If you happen to be on the island in July or August, don't even think of visiting Cagliari unless the weather forecast promises a chilly spell (which is not very likely) or you're a mad dog or likewise Englishman. Cagliari is situated on the south coast of Sardinia, humidity is extreme, in summer it's higher than 90%, combined with a temperature of 35° C (95° F) or more the city is a destination to avoid. Many British tourists come already in April and May, they may find more warmth in Sardinia in these months than on their Isles in August! Let's assume you're staying in...

Modern Hotel, but not in the city centre.

Advantages: Nice modern rooms and friendly staff
Disadvantages: location is away from central Cagliari.

... Location The Holiday Inn Cagliari hotel is located close to the airport, on the outskirts of Cagliairi, therefore if you are planning to go be aware that the best way to get into the city centre is via a taxi (prices varied from 10-15 euro). The hotel is located just off a central road, but is quite nonetheless. Check-in Check-in was fast and efficient, I booked two standard King rooms and everything was correct. The staff at the desk were always polite and helpful and they could all understand and communicate in English. The Rooms I had two king rooms, I requested interconnecting rooms and the hotel honoured this request. The rooms are modern and look as though they have recently been done up. I had a view of the road outside, although the room was sound-proofed so it didn't bother me. The en suite didn't have...

from a sardinian member

Advantages: beaches, seas:)
Disadvantages: ...i don't know!

...Hi all, first of all, forgive my mistakes but I am in italian girl and my Engish is not good ;) I would like to talk about Cagliari, the town where I live. Cagliari is situated on the south cost of Sardinia Island in the mediterranean sea. There are two parts of the town u have to visit: the old part called Castello, with old church and towers, with old streets, and the touristic part: the sea. near Cagliari, there are 7 km of white beach and clear sea where u can catch the sun and have a fun in the beach! This beach is called POETTO, but if u can move by car, u could should visit the several beaches in the south east part. In cagliari there are alot of hotel, cheap or expensive, there are discoes, cinemas... The Cagliari airport is 15minutes by bus far from the center, the port is in the main street of cagliari (Via Roma...

The archeological town of Nora, South Sardinia

Advantages: archeological site, culture, sunny beach, shops, nice food
Disadvantages: none

...Nora is a beautiful small touristic village belonging to the district of Pula (Cagliari, South Sardinia) and it's famous mainly for its Punic-Roman ruins. But archeological finds like the "Temple of Tanit", ceramics and the ruins of a nuraghe on the outskirts, just prove that Nora was already inhabited in the era of the nuraghi, long before the Phoenicians and the Romans. ----------------------How to get there---------------------------------------------- From Cagliari you must follow the Sulcitana road (S.S 195) towards Pula, enter the city of Pula (30 km away from Cagliari) and then follow the road signals to Nora, which is is just at the end of a long tree-lined road. -----------------------Archeological site-------------------------------------------- In the archeological area, which is one of the most important of the whole...

Adrian Mutu - the new Hagi

Advantages: Great speed and dribbling abilities
Disadvantages: Agressive

...match of Juve, 4-2 with Cagliari Calcio. From 2005-2006 season,he began as a reserve, but its performance (7 goals in 20 matches with Juventus and 5 goals in 5 matches with Romania) have propelled him toward the first 11. Juventus club was demoted in 2006 because of the Calciopoli scandal and, like many players the club torinez, Mutu has left the club. ACF Fiorentina (2006-present) On 8 July 2006, the Florence team announced that they had signed the contract with Mutu, for the amount of ? 8,000,000. In 17 matches he scored 10 goals and was the third on the classification of goalgetters in Serie A after Totti and Spinesi. Adrian Mutu is doing very well at Fiorentina and would not want to go. He is one of the the best players in Serie A in 2006/2007 season and receives offers from Real Madrid and other big teams. However, he...

Sardinia - It's not where Sardines are from!

Advantages: Small Family Hotel, Beautiful Area, True Italian Family Life
Disadvantages: Little English Spoken, No On-Site Activities, No Dinner Menu

...wasn't bad either *grin*) and indulged in a spot of fishing, swimming and snorkelling near the caves. There are also several neolithic points of interest including the Sa Ena 'e Thomes (Giants Tomb), Caves just mentioned and several remains of neolithic villages. The restaurants in the area are also very good in their own traditional way, although you will not find *gourmet eating* unless you venture to one of the main towns (Cagliari to the south or Alghero to the north). Onto the food.... The menu didn't actually exist close season. This may sound odd, but in a wonderfully Italian trait, in close season, the guests ate exactly what the family ate. The mother and father did the cooking and it was all superb. I was lucky enough to have a tour of the kitchen since (In very very poor Italian/German/English) I managed to convey...

Review of Hotel Il Querceto, Dorgali

A land to hate, a land to love.

Advantages: Nature is intact
Disadvantages: The north is very expensive

...from top to bottom it takes roughly something like 4hours/ 4 hrs 1/2. Cagliari is the capital of the region and it has a big harbour which faces the Gulf of Cagliari. Main other cities are Nuoro, Oristano, Sassari. AGRICULTURE ********** Despite the occasional lack of water agriculture does thrive in our land, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, oranges, lemons, onions, figs, peppers, courgettes... there is nothing that this land cannot produce as far as our mediterranean products are concerned, Sardinia also produces rice and in small towns you will be able to see families sellilng their own produce by their front door and you can be sure farmers do not use chemicals as they do believe in their earth, sun and compost and let me tell you.. people actually take pleasure in eating salads and vegetables because they actually taste...

Late Sun In The Real Sardinia...

Advantages: Beautiful, Unspoilt, Superb Climate
Disadvantages: More Expensive Than You Might Expect

...believe, is renowned for its beautiful beaches and roman ruins, which include an impressive and largely intact Amphitheatre. It strikes me as interesting, that the two Pulas should have these things in common. The Pula I am visiting, however, is set not on the Adriatic, but rather, near the southernmost tip of Sardinia, smack bang in the centre of the Med. Sadly, the small Amphitheatre here now rests in picturesque ruins. ARRIVAL: En route to Cagliari, Sardinia's ancient capital, the plane had hovered above the island's spectacular western coastline, dipped slightly inland, and then, upon landing, had seemed almost to skim the surface of the sea before coming safely to rest on Sardinian ground. I felt a vague (and no doubt unwarranted) sense of narrowly averted disaster. The airport itself is very modern, with a new-car sort of smell...

Med in heaven - *UPDATE*

Advantages: Beaches, history, scenery, relaxation
Disadvantages: Little nightlife (if that's what you are looking for)

...from the UK is Ryanair. The good news is that if you can fly midweek, or take advantage of one of their seat sales, you can fly for under £20 return (plus the inevitable taxes). The highest price seems to be around £120 (!) each way, even midweek, unless you can secure a deal. www.volareweb.com, which flew from Luton to Cagliari, the capital in the south of the island, has gone bankrupt, but Easyjet will be flying to Cagliari and Olbia from spring 2005. It's about a three hour drive (or bus ride) from Cagliari to Alghero, and you can stop off and see some sights on the way. The descent into Alghero is great, over Corsica just to the north, and across the northwestern tip of the island, and into the airport. The airport itself is more like a bus station (there is a bar/newsagent and not much else), and the bags come...
